Cook's suite is a newly restored ground floor apartment set within the old Victorian kitchens of a grade II listed country house. The house is situated on the outskirts of the historic port town of Bideford in the beautiful north Devon countryside near the coast at Westward Ho! Enjoy stylish period features with every modern luxury and convenience. Perfect for your Christmas bubble, Cook's is one of three single household apartments all set around an open courtyard.

This suite has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a private courtyard with firepit, sheltered outdoor seating and BBQ dining area. There is dedicated off-street parking, right outside the entrance, and the apartment is all on ground-floor level, with easy and level access throughout. The main room is a large (45m2) open-plan kitchen/dining/lounge room, with a range cooker built into the old Victorian kitchen fireplaces, traditional butler sink, oak surfaces, farmhouse table and dresser. There is comfy leather seating around a 55" smart TV, with high-speed WiFI and blu ray but also a selection of family games and puzzles.

The master bedroom has a superking sized four-poster bed, with optional daybed, or space for a toddler bed or cot. Period features include large fireplaces, and the ensuite bathroom has roll top bath, separate walk-in shower, underfloor heating and heated towel rail. The second bedroom can be set up as a second master with superking bed, or as a twin with two singles. A second bathroom has a walk in shower and traditional style washstand sink.

Pets are welcomes, and two-and four-legged guests have free run of 5 acres of mature landscaped gardens, with hidden BBQ areas, gazebo, carved animals, fire circles, seating, picnic spots, play equipment, mud kitchen, hobbit house, swings and slides, all set among mature trees and a peaceful traffic-free setting that belie its convenient location just 5 minutes from the centre of town.

Bideford is known as the "little white town", nestled on the Torridge estuary with its charming mediaeval bridge, Quayside shops and cafes, and regular ferry service to Lundy island. Just minutes from Appledore Village, surfing at Westward Ho!, the Southwest coast path, Tarka trail cycling and walking route; a short drive to Clovelly, the dramatic Hartland Peninsula and the beaches of Saunton and Croyde, and with easy access to Dartmoor or Exmoor, we are ideally placed to enjoy all the varied attractions of North Devon. We are within a half mile of the A39 Atlantic highway, giving easy access from major driving routes and onward excursions to the North Cornwall coast.

Additional accommodation, private dining or function rooms can be booked by arrangement. Store room and workshop available for surf-boards and bikes, with some available to borrow. Wheelchair access is possible. Well behaved pets are welcome. Concierge and catering services available.

A brilliant place to stay

By Annie And Mike on 07-Sep-2020

Moreton House is special. The apartment we stayed in had been beautifully renovated and was a lovely space to be in and relax. It was well equipped and the beds and sofas were very comfortable. Moreton House is up a drive away from the road and as a result was very peaceful. We had the use of a lovely courtyard as our personal outdoor space but also enjoyed wandering around the beautiful grounds. Helen and Harvey were great - there to welcome you on arrival, on hand to help if needed anything but otherwise invisible. They seemed to have thought about everything, including a cold beer and cream tea for us in the fridge. The apartment was immaculately clean and we felt completely safe given the current Covid environment.

A week in a country house

By Bryan And Jenni Portman on 26-Jul-2020

We had a fabulous visit to Moreton House. Our accommodation At The Cook’s Suite was superb. Spacious with a perfect mixture of new and traditional styles which gave a wow! factor as soon as you arrived. The courtyard was also large and spacious and for our own use and we enjoyed BBQ’s and the use of the ‘fire pit’ on cool evenings. Very special. The owners were warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They clearly are proud of what they have created at Moreton House and justly so.
Highly recommended!

Amazing apartment and beautiful beaches

By RebeccaK on 11-Nov-2019

We felt very welcome during our stay in the luxurious Cooks suite at Moreton house, the apartments have been extremely well done and there is lots of space for a family of 4. We stayed a weekend but could have easily stayed a week or more, there are plenty of nice beaches and restaurants close by and many lovely walks and sights to explore. Cannot recommend it enough!

Luxury apartments in a beautiful, unique historic building

By Simon F on 02-Nov-2019

I had a fantastic (major) birthday celebration here with old friends. Lovely, tastefully decorated, self-contained converted apartments spread around a quiet sunny courtyard - perfect for a secluded breakfast. The imposing house forms a perfect backdrop to the grounds, which are great for the children - there's even a hideaway den in the woods. The location means it manages to feel secluded and green, but be a short drive to town and lovely beaches like Westward Ho! Hosts Harvey and Helen, who live in the house, made sure we had everything we needed yet gave us complete privacy. A truly unique place.

Cooks Suite, Moreton House, is a luxurious, well equipped apartment. It had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Located very close to Bideford with the coast and other attractions easily accessible. Helen & Harvey are very good hosts. Will definitely visit again

Just Great

By TomJ on 28-Oct-2019

I was one of 3 people who rented this for a 50th. Amazing building to stay in, restored to a very high standard, lots of spaces and rooms with different characters relaxed and friendly perfect for us. Options for cocking and Helen was able the help lay on a catering option for us.
I went to school in this building in the 1980s. The present owners are unbelievably knowledgeable about the history of the building and made the effort to contact the old school association to lay out our old school photos. Nice touch thank you.

“Boutique apartments in historic house”

By Eleanor R on 14-Jul-2019

We had a wonderful stay at the newly renovated Moreton House, Biddeford, Devon. Fantastic spacious 1 bed and 2 bed apartments around a charming external courtyard was perfect to accommodate 1 couple and 2 singles for the weekend. The apartments have every luxury and the space is so relaxing that it is difficult to work up the energy to go out exploring. However when you do, there are the huge gardens of Moreton itself to explore in, not to mention the beach of Westward Ho! Just a few minutes drive away. An Idyllic setting with wonderful helpful and knowledgeable hosts. I will be back!

A relaxing, classy, heritage manor

By Hollis Wong on 27-Mar-2019

We had an amazing stay at Moreton House; the place was full of luxuries, class, and history. So much TLC and thought was put into the place. It is incredible. My little one had a cracking time in the gardens. A huge thanks to Helen Phillips and family for making it such a memorable holiday.
