Moreton House is a grade II listed country house on the outskirts of Bideford in the beautiful north Devon countryside near the coast at Westward Ho! The house has undergone a major refurbishment after half a decade as a boarding school, and this season we are opening our doors to holidaymakers for the first time, offering the opportunity to stay in this stunning historic location, with free run of the landscaped grounds. Guests can now choose from a selection of newly renovated self-contained luxurious apartments, accommodating families or groups requiring anything from 1 to 7 bedrooms.
The Housekeeper's Suite has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a private deck accessed via french doors with sheltered outdoor seating and BBQ dining area. There is dedicated off-street parking, and the apartment is all on ground-floor level, with easy and level access. The main room is a huge (60m2) open-plan kitchen/dining/lounge room, with a lacanche range cooker, american style fridge freezer, large breakfast bar, generous dining table and cosy wood burning stove. Full of period features yet all modern comforts such as high-speed WiFi, smart TVs, central heating and ensuite bathrooms
The master bedroom has a king-sized sleigh bed, and also its own lounge area with sofa and its own log burning stove too. The ensuite bathroom has a double ended bath, and separate walk-in shower, underfloor heating and heated towel rail. The second bedroom has a king sized carved sleigh bed and a second ensuite bathroom also has a walk in shower, all subtly equipped with grab rails and higher level toilet to accommodate those with limited mobility.
There is an indoor children’s play room and library with soft-play equipment and trampoline, free run of 5 acres of mature landscaped gardens, with hidden BBQ areas, gazebo, carved animals, fire circles, seating, picnic spots, play equipment, mud kitchen, hobbit house, swings and slides, all set among mature trees and a peaceful traffic-free setting that belie its convenient location just 5 minutes from the centre of Bideford or the beach at Westward Ho!
Bideford is known as the "little white town", nestled on the Torridge estuary with its charming mediaeval bridge, Quayside shops and cafes, and regular ferry service to Lundy island. Just minutes from Appledore Village, surfing at Westward Ho!, the Southwest coast path, Tarka trail cycling and walking route; a short drive to Clovelly, the dramatic Hartland Peninsula and the beaches of Saunton and Croyde, and with easy access to Dartmoor or Exmoor, we are ideally placed to enjoy all the varied attractions of North Devon. We are within a half mile of the A39 Atlantic highway, giving easy access from major driving routes and onward excursions to the North Cornwall coast.
Additional accommodation (for example, an additional bedroom suite), private dining or function rooms can be booked by arrangement. Store room and workshop available for surf-boards and bikes, with some available to borrow. Wheelchair access is possible. Concierge and catering services available.

A very well appointed holiday apartment in a stately home that is being gradually renovated by its owners. A lot of thought has gone into the fit out and the attention to detail is outstanding. A great self-catering venue. This apartment is great for a couple or family, but when combined with the other apartments would make a fantastic spot for a group of friends. Not far from the coast and attractions like Clovelly village. Plenty of great walking to be had.
Great Place to stay - Well equippped - Very luxurious

Booked the 4 suites for a joint 50th Birthday celebration weekend in September 2019. The building has been restored to an amazing level. The attention to detail is superb and the apartments are really luxurious. Helen & Harvey have thought things though really well with a small range of locally sourced products left in the fridge such as milk, cider, beer and the kitchen has a supply of tea and coffee which is great for when you first arrive. The open plan kitchen / diner / sitting room is very spacious and well equipped and is really social to have dinner or just kick back wand what some TV.
It’s a quiet location set in its on grounds. It’s a great place for groups to stay or one can take a single apartment with one of two bedrooms.
