Description
If you need a place to unwind and reset on your Cornish holiday, Otter Lodge provides you with ample opportunities; whether it be fishing our stretch of the River Fowey for trout or salmon, sipping your morning coffee on the private, south-facing patio watching the river gently flow by only a few feet away from your garden, or simply opening the curtains after a good night's sleep and watching the birds.Your lodge is equipped with all the features you’d expect from luxury accommodation: beautiful linens, well-equipped kitchen with Bosch appliances including a dishwasher, lovely Port Meirion Botanic Blue crockery, gas central heating, two comfy leather settees and an easy chair, a solid oak dining table which seats up to six and a bright and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living area. There's also a washing machine in the utility room (with tumble dryer in the nearby Information Room) and a rotary clothes line outside.
From the main bedroom you can look out over your private garden area towards the river and listen to the tranquil sound of the water through your window. Relax in the comfort of a king-size bed and have a delightful night's sleep in fragrant, freshly-laundered, crisp linen with no street lights to disturb you. You'll have a spacious dressing table, drawers and a built-in wardrobe as well as an en-suite shower room featuring a large, luxurious shower, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail with towels provided for you.
You might prefer to sleep in the second large bedroom at the opposite end of the lodge. This also overlooks the river and has a comfortable king-size bed and an even larger walk-in wardrobe, dressing table and drawers. This bedroom shares a family shower room with the third bedroom, which is a bright, welcoming twin room with windows to the river and a Velux skylight as well as a wardrobe and drawers. The family shower room has a large shower, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail.
Your private patio has a picnic table and chairs, parasol and a BBQ for your exclusive use during your stay. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a sun-downer with friends at the end of the day.
Some guests find that they don't leave the site as there's plenty to do with walks around the lake, bird-spotting in the hide, choosing your favourite picnic spot or escaping with a book and a bottle of wine. Perhaps you'll recapture your inner-child on the rope swings, have a game of boules on the court or even fish for salmon or trout in the river. There's a fire pit in the grounds, which guests are welcome to use, which is another perfect spot for meeting up and sharing special times together.
If your selected date isn't available in Otter Lodge, why not have a look at our other properties from our one-bedroom Oaktree and Kingfisher Cottages, to two-bedroom Bluebell and Squirrel Cottages, our other lodge (Owl Lodge) which also sleeps 6, and our Old Farmhouse, which dates back to the 1750s and sleeps up to 7 guests?
If you are exploring further afield, you'll have the perfect base. Rivermead Cottages are about half-way between Bodmin and Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is 5 minutes away by car, and pretty harbour villages like Charlestown and Polperro can be reached in less than 20 minutes. There's a host of attractions within easy reach such as the NT gardens at Lanhydrock, the Eden Project, Golitha Falls and Lantic Bay, where you can join the South West Coast Path. You'll find a wealth of tourist leaflets and suggested walks in the Information Room.

Leave ReviewThe lodge was perfect
By Castle on 27-Jun-2025We were looking for a holiday for one week with friends in the South of England when we found Rivermead. We needed the property to have two bathrooms and parking for two cars. We've given Rivermead and Otter Lodge 5/5 for everything and would have given them A LOT HIGHER THAN 5 for everything if we could. We had a brilliant welcome. The lodge was perfect for the four of us. The surrounding grounds were amazing. We have enjoyed watching the birds from the lounge every day and saw two fawns run by the bottom of the garden. The whole week has been outstanding at Rivermead and we would certainly visit again for a holiday. The lodge was spotless and we will certainly recommend it to friends and family. Thank you Kate & Gary.
Otter Lodge and the surrounding grounds were brilliant for our week away with friends.
By Sandie Castle on 20-Jun-2025We always book somewhere really nice for our annual holiday with friends, but the four of us agreed that Otter Lodge and the grounds surpassed anywhere we have stayed before. From the time I booked online, communication was immediate and first rate throughout. Kate and Gary were so welcoming and informative on places to visit/restaurants etc. The welcome jute bag plus contents was a real treat and there was everything we could need in the Lodge. The cleanliness and standards throughout the Lodge were second to none. The crockery was beautiful, the rooms light and airy with large opening windows in the bedrooms. We sat in the lounge watching the woodpeckers, robins, bluetits, chaffinches and a squirrel on the patio. Sitting at the table outside, two baby red deer ran by just below us in the garden. We had an amazing time. Colin even had a swing on the tree rope without falling off - video proof. We would not hesitate to return to Rivermead Cottages and certainly recommend booking any of the available accommodation.
Spotless lodge

Couldn't have asked for a better property

Peace and tranquillity
By Webb on 19-Apr-2025We were looking for peace and tranquillity when we booked Otter Lodge at Rivermead Cottages. We also loved the cleanliness and the quality.
Loved the view onto the river
By S-Swords on 04-Mar-2025We were looking for somewhere quiet, peaceful and detached. What did we like most? The view on to the river. The fact that the lodge warmed up very quickly and stayed warm. The luxurious showers. The comfortable furniture that you could relax on. Watching the birds feeding. The fact that the lodge was quiet, secluded and private.
