The area is blessed with a mild climate, fabulous sandy beaches, amazing surf, incredible walks both coastal and across the untamed moors and fascinating history. From great pubs to michellin stared restaurants, add on breathtaking sun sets, challenging golf courses and little secluded coves to explore, there really is something for everyone. These are just some of the welcoming aspects of the West Country from cider and cornish pasties to scrumptious cream teas, Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth, Nathan Outlaw, The Tanner Brothers, Michael Caines plus many other very talented unknown chefs make the area a gastronomes delight. From The Eden Project to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Padstow and the quaint fishing village of Port Issac, famed for the filming of the very poular Doc Martin. Boscastle with its 16th century quay and witches museum, Tintagel and the legend of King Arthur to the unique cobbled streets of Clovelly and perhaps the wildest of all, the heritage coastline - Hartland. With its sheer rugged cliffs and tales of ship wrecks, piracy and smuggling. Also the National Trust has many properties within easy distance and RHS Rosemore will have keen gardeners pottering for hours. So if you believe the tales of smugglers on the shore and fairies in the fields this is the place for you!

Wonderful week!

By Smiley_scribe Halifax, on 15-Apr-2018

South View is a beautifully clean and well presented annex. We were initially a little apprehensive about the accommodation being under the owner's house but we needn't have worried - it was very quiet and private and felt like we were on our own in the middle of the countryside! Gill was charming - really friendly and helpful but she gave us all the privacy we needed too. The accommodation was clean, tidy and plenty big enough for 2. It was lovely and warm and so nice to have a bath, as well as a shower, where we could relax after a busy day! Location is great - 5 mins drive from Bude (with a Morrisons and Aldi en route!) and within 5 mins walking distance of 2 pubs. The Kings Arms is good for a pint and basic pub grub (quiz on Tues night too) but the Tree Inn serves beautiful food and has a little more in the way of character. Lots to see in the area: we recommend Port Isaac, bike rental from Bude Bikes, Tintagel Castle and the day to trip to Lundy island. We had an amazing holiday at South View: comfortable, clean, great value, lovely owner, super location. What more can we say? No hesitation in recommending this to others. Thanks, Gill, for making our holiday so memorable.

Your response:
"Thank you for your lovely review so pleased you enjoyed our accommodation and had such a good time. We would love to welcome you back to South View again in the future."

Home from home

By Gareth And Janine B. Said... on 08-Mar-2018

The apartment is fresh and clean, well equipped and everything works. Lovely view down the valley across lovely garden. Parking is secure. Really enjoyed the 5 minute walk in the evenings to The Tree Inn...great food and beer! The self catering is a short drive (10mins) from truly beautiful beaches e.g. Sandymouth Bay, Widemouth, Bude etc. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be going back. Great stay and marvellous value!

My Response

Thank you for taking the time to post this review, it is always good to receive guest feedback. We are fortunate to be located in such a beautiful quiet location, which is so convenient to the A39 giving easy access for exploring the stunning areas of North Cornwall and North Devon, and of course we are easy walking distance to two lovely old village Inns. We are also proud to hear we got your welcome right and provide good value for money! We very much look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

Short break

By MartinjSuzi on 14-Feb-2018

The accommodation was excellent as other reviewers have reported. Very clean and tidy as the photographs suggest. Gill welcomed us as soon as we arrived and showed us around. She provided a small welcome pack to allow us to make a cuppa which was much needed. We also gained some useful information from her about the local area. The location is very quiet and surrounded by greenery. Access is the only slight issue being down a very narrow lane which fortunately is relatively short. We would definitely return if needing accommodation in the area.
Your response:
"Thank you so much for your review, glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us at South View. We are extremely lucky to live in such a beautiful location, which we very much enjoy sharing with our guests. Our road is very quiet and we hardly ever meet anyone coming in the opposite direction so it’s never a problem! Hope to see you again in the future."

Week away with the pup

By Michelle W. Said... on 28-Aug-2017

Had a fantastic week here! Gil was fantastic to communicate with before we arrived-put our minds at ease while we dealt with problems at home. Then, on arrival, was very welcoming and warm making us feel straight at home. The cottage is perfect for a couple (and puppy dog) with lots of space so you don't ever feel cramped, the outside patio is HUGE and the lovely little garden at the front is all you need as a couple to sit and enjoy the views (including the glorious flowers the owners have grown!). If we come back to Bude we would happily stay here again!

My Response

Thank you so much for your review. So good to hear again how much you enjoyed your stay. We would love to see you again in the future.

Amazing value apartment with everything you could need!

By Adam M. Said... on 07-Aug-2017

Lovely clean apartment with everything you could ever want. The view is amazing and there are even bats at dusk. The place is very quiet but so close to Bude. You could easily walk. Thanks for a lovely weekend break.

My Response

Thank you for your review, it was great meeting you, so pleased you enjoyed your stay and watching the bats at dusk, they have proved quite an attraction this summer! Along with the buzzards and herons that fly through the valley. Hope to see you again in the future.

Beautiful apartment with such lovely views

By Mandy K. Said... on 07-Apr-2017

We have just had a lovely week's break at south view. The apartment was larger than in the photos, very comfortable, huge outside area, and wonderful tranquil views. We loved sitting outside having breakfast and seeing the vast scenic view, with sheep roaming around. We had some lovely days out, within an hours driving distance. But it was a nice walk into Bude , for a wander around, few beers and good food. We feel totally recharged after chilling for the week, and we're so lucky to have had such wonderful weather, especially for April. We would definitely return to this home, if we were to visit this area again, would highly recommend it.

My Response

Thank you for taking the time to write about your holiday experience with us, always good to know how much our guests have enjoyed their stay. A lot of people do mention how much bigger the apartment is in "real life". We are very fortunate to live in such a wonderful location with beautiful surrounds and so many other stunning places to visit nearby! Bude has a lot to offer holiday makers of all ages and interests. We are immensely proud of our beaches and sea pool but also the good choice of cafes, restaurants and little independent shops in and around Bude. We look forward to welcoming you back to South View again in the future.

The accommodation was top class. The owners living above were friendly and helpful. The kitchen area was well equipped and the bathroom modern and spacious. lovely view down the valley from lounge and bedroom. Easy access to Bude and the coast. In our short stay did not have time to investigate local pubs. Perhaps next time when we will have no hesitation in booking here again

My Response

We really appreciate you taking the time to write this review, so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We do have two lovely old village inns just down the road from us, maybe you will get to use them next time you visit us! We look forward to welcoming you back to South View in the future.

Amazing stay with our dog in April!

By Mifnat777 on 22-May-2016

This apartment was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone! It had great views to wake up to in the morning and the patio area was great even in April weather. We drove into bude most days which took around 10 minutes. The apartment was clean, lovely decorated and the bedroom was cozy and comfy! It was a perfect size for me and my boyfriend and my dog loves his stay! The owners were welcoming and we saw them twice, very friendly and left us to it! They had everything there we needed! I am already looking forward to going back!

Your response:

"Thank you for your kind comments, it's great to know how much you enjoyed your stay and we very much look forward to welcoming you back in the future."

Lovely spacious apartment for 2 people

By SandgrownJeanie on 23-Mar-2016

Arrived to friendly greeting by owners, we saw them one or two times during our stay but they were unobtrusive. Apartment is immaculate and just as per description and photos. We were blessed with sunny weather throughout our stay and enjoyed the view across the fields both from the window and the alfresco area (yes, even enjoyed breakfast outside in middle of March!). Our dog enjoyed use of the well looked after garden. There are 2 pubs within easy walking distance (we enjoyed a meal at the Tree Inn, didn't try the other pub) and there is also a small convenience store. We have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation and would visit again.

Your response:

"Thank you for taking the time to write a review and pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Lots of our guests tell us how much they enjoy having an alfresco breakfast but what a bonus in March! We very much look forward to welcoming back in the future."

A beautifully presented apartment with everything you need for your stay. Apartment was emmaculate on arrival and we were made to feel extremely welcome by the owners. Amazing views to wake up to every morning. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone. The only downside for us was the time went far too quickly!!

Perfect apartment. Outstanding Cornish countryside views.

By James B on 17-Aug-2015

Nothing was a bother, helpful but non intrusive hosts. The apartment is a really good size and has everything it needs for a Cornish break. I always worry when places allow dogs (even though I like taking mine) in case of smells or scruffiness but it was spotless and not a sign of 'dog' in site. Overwhelming views, drinking tea in the morning with the sun rising through the green valley. Amazing coastline. Conviant location and perfectly quite. With an added bonus the JR dog could join in too!!

Absolutely Amazing Stay

By Andreanna R. Said on 17-Jul-2015

South View really is a lovely place to stay. The apartment is fully furnished with everything you could need for a short break. The place is the cleanest place I've ever stayed and the owners achieved the perfect balance of being incredibly attentive whilst also offering the peace and quiet and privacy you like when you're on holiday. They really were lovely. The garden is heavenly and the views from the apartment are spectacular. Both supermarket and the beach are a short drive away making it a really convenient location. I really would recommend this place highly because the place is gorgeous, the owners lovely and the location rejuvenating. Thanks so much for a wonderful holiday apartment and totally affordable prices. Andreanna & Kelly.

My Response

Thank you for your positive comments. Our aim is to give our guests the type of holiday experience we enjoy ourselves, to stay in clean, comfortable, nicely furnished surroundings, to be warmly welcomed and attended to when necessary but also to be left to quietly enjoy our stay, it's good to hear we have achieved that. We are looking forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

A home from home

By RebeccaandMargot on 31-Oct-2014

South View is a very spacious, comfortable and well equipped annexe. With great views, and peaceful surroundings Dan and I had a wonderfully relaxing stay. Margot the mini dachshund also loved her first Cornwall break! Gill couldn't have been more helpful, organised and un-intrusive. Stratton itself is very quiet with two pubs within walking distance. Nice for a drink, but based on the one meal we had locally, food is not their forte. Bude itself is lovely for walks. We drove out to Port Isaac and adored that (not in the least related to the TV programme, as I'd not heard of it until our trip!) and of course Padstow is lovely. Tintagel Castle and coast line also absolutely worth a stop of. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Wonderful long weekend

By KerryW1983 on 18-Oct-2013

Fab location, the accommodation was lovely, everything you could possibly want. The views are spectacular so if you are lucky with the weather you can make the most of the outside space. There are a couple of pubs locally which are within walking distance. The location is very quiet, but a short drive or long stroll to Bude. Its also ideally located for some of the tourist attractions such as Clovelly, Port Isaac, Tintagel and Boscastle. I couldn't recommend highly enough.

5 of of 5

tranquil well located stay

By Debra G on 25-Sep-2013

We stayed the bank holiday weekend and it was beautiful, just what I needed. The apartment was much bigger than I expected - we were happy to just relax there in the evenings in the big comfy sofas - and really well equipped. It's a 5 minute walk from the village with two really good pubs, and not far from everywhere I wanted to visit in North Cornwall. We were thoroughly intending to book again in October, but as my car's just given out sadly won't be able to, but definitely some time in the future. Is beautifully quiet, but without feeling out in the sticks.

5 of of 5

incredible good accomodation

By Schulzef on 21-Jul-2013

We enjoyed each minute of our holiday there. The cottage has a high standard, very cosy and clean with a beautiful surrounding. When you are sitting on the terrace you have a wounderful view and are able to hear the sound of the nature. I would book this accomodation again. The owner couple is very nice and politely. The amazing and rugged coast isn't far. You can reach it easy by car or bycicle. There are enough bays with nice sand beaches. We was there with our dog. The rules for dogs inside the cottage are acceptable. Bude or Cornwall are very dog friendly. Best Regards Nadine and Frank Esslingen Germany
