Warmed by the Gulf Stream this part of Cornwall enjoys its own micro climate and has a real Mediterranean feel about it. The subtropical plants, cliff top paths and sandy beaches make Carbis Bay a pleasure to visit all year round and we are able to offer short breaks out of peak season (please ask for more details), whether you are looking for a family getaway, a quiet romantic break for two, or an action packed holiday with friends we are sure you won't be disappointed.
Only a mile and a half from the picturesque fishing village of St Ives, arguably the most famous seaside town in Cornwall, which is easily accessed by the magnificent South West coastal path or the St Ives Bay branch line, Carbis Bay is the perfect location for a great holiday and an ideal base for exploring the many attractions that West Cornwall has to offer.
Enjoy the tranquil setting of Carbis Bay and its beautiful beach, stroll along the magnificent South West coastal path, taking in the dramatic views of St Ives Bay, and be in St Ives in around 20 minutes or so, or hop on the St Ives Bay branch line (almost certainly the most scenic railway in the UK) and be in St Ives in just three minutes (of course you can take your car, but St Ives is almost impossible to drive through and park in the summer!).
Carbis Bay Station is just a short walk from Sea Shells and the regular three minute train journey into St Ives is a delight (adult fare is just £1). The advantage of staying in Carbis Bay is that you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of St Ives, without the hassle of traffic and parking (many of the properties in St Ives do not have parking facilities and public spaces are limited), and during peak season driving through the centre of St Ives can be quite a challenge.
St Ives has an abundance of art galleries, fine restaurants and a choice of golden sandy beaches, sparkling azure seas and its charming working harbour so it’s no wonder it is one of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations. Its unique quality of light provides inspiration to artists, poets and writers all year round. Visitors will be captivated by the light, and mesmerised by the beauty of the award winning beaches, the maze of cobbled streets and quaint fisherman’s cottages, and will be charmed with the blend of designer shops and quaint traditional tea rooms which all seem to sit together in perfect harmony.
Carbis Bay itself has a fabulous blue flag beach, a good safe family holiday beach with lifeguard cover usually available between May and September, there’s a beach cafe / restaurant & takeaway as well as a local shop, fish & chip shop, pubs, restaurants, etc. There are also a choice of spa facilities and golf within a two mile radius (including West Cornwall golf Club, probably one of the finest links courses in Cornwall). Water sports, including kayaking and stand up paddle boards, are available at Carbis Bay beach, with surfing lessons available in St Ives or at nearby Gwithian. Carbis Bay, just a mile and a half away from the bustling centre of St Ives, is the perfect base for a memorable holiday.
Non smoking or vaping permitted and we regret that no pets are allowed at any time of the year.
Stayed at Seashells at the Sands. On arrival there was a lovely thoughtful tray of goodies. Champagne, tea coffee, milk in the fridge, chocolate and cream tea. Apartment really has everything you could wish for during your stay. Just wish the weather was a little warmer so we could have enjoyed the outdoor areas, we will have to come back in the summer. Folder provided in the apartment gives lots of local information and found this really useful. Couldn’t fault the stay, totally enjoyable and loved Carbis Bay. If you want a great staycation, book here.
Perfect home from home accommodation, except this one has a sea view that we only dream of at home. It was spotlessly clean with all the sanitising and cleaning products provided for use during our stay. The apartment is really spacious with all of the appliances and equipment that we could need. The bed was really comfortable and we loved the benefit of having 2 patio areas.
The owner is really considerate of her guests and made us extremely welcome. I would 100% recommend this apartment.
Make up of party: Couple with retired parents.

This is the second time I have stayed at this beautiful apartment in Carbis Bay. I had such a lovely time back in July I vowed to have a second visit! The location is perfect, a 5 minute walk to the beach, 20-25 minutes walk (not taxing) to St Ives or 45-60 minutes to Lelant along the coastal paths. The local branch train line is only a few minutes away if you don’t fancy the walk. In the current climate I would highly recommend booking places to eat for either lunch or dinner to avoid disappointment or a long wait. This place is just fabulous for completely switching off and relaxing. I will hopefully be back again as I just love it here!
Sea shells is a beautiful apartment and an ideal place to stay with family or friends. On arrival we received a lovely card and welcome pack with teabags coffee milk chocolate and a bottle of bubbly which were very nice so we could have a nice cuppa as soon as we arrived after our long journey. The apartment is very clean and equipped with everything you need, beds are very comfortable and towels are soft and white. Lovely sea view and patio area. Ideal base for touring Cornwall. I would highly recommend and definitely stay there again in the near future
Great apartment in a great location. Nice and clean, spacious (more so than the pictures suggest), good cooking facilities and lots of nice personal touches on arrival. We enjoyed some lovely days running the coastal path, swimming in the ocean, SUPing and having dinner on St. Ives. Fay was really helpful and went out of her way to accommodate us. Would recommend this apartment for anyone looking for a great stay in Carbis Bay
Lovely apartment in Carbis Bay and well positioned for the beach, train to St Ives and coastal walks.
The kitchen is well equipped with high quality kitchenware. The beds are comfortable and the place was very clean on arrival. Great welcome pack!
Good outdoor space for the children at front and back, and sea views too.
Great service and communication from the owner, loads of useful information beforehand and in the apartment about the local area.
Highly recommended!
What a superb apartment! This is much better than many AirBnBs that skimp on cheap kitchenware and uncomfortable beds. We were welcomed by a personal card, a scone cream tea and a bottle of decent Champagne, chocolates and snacks. The apartment is set in a high-quality development minutes walk from the amazing Carbis Bay and train station. Parking is off-street and allocated. Access to the property is down a few stairs, and there is a lift if required. It has a beautiful outlook onto private gardens and a stunning view of the bay (you cannot see the beach directly). At the rear there is a large patio. The whole place is spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The kitchen has high quality equipment and everything you need to cook at home. Beds are ‘Hypnos’, one of the best you can buy and each bedroom has a smart TV, in addition to the big TV and PS4 in the living room. A great stay, thank you Fay!
This is a beautiful apartment situated in Carbis Bay, only a 5 minute walk from the nearest beach and a few minutes walk to the local train line which takes you to St Ives. It was therefore ideally situated, as well as being nice and peaceful at the same time. The apartment itself is very spacious, clean, and everything is presented to an exceptionally high standard throughout. The attention to detail is second to none and everything has been thought of in order for you enjoy your fabulous break away. The Sea Shells apartment really is that extra bit special and my only regret is that I didn’t stay here longer!
Absolutely immaculate apartment, spotlessly clean and perfectly maintained throughout. Location was great for the coastal footpath to St Ives and a very short walk to Carbis Bay train station with regular services to St Ives and St Erth. The added benefit of a gym pass in a nearby hotel was a great plus for me too.
Lovely clean apartment with all you could need and more. Great location, lots to see and do. Near the station for easy to-ing and fro-ing to St Ives. Couldn’t ask for more.
We rented Fay's property for the weekend to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary, with our two children 8, 11. The apartment exceeded expectations in every way, in both of the modern high standards as well as everything we needed and a lot more.
Excellent apartment in one of the most beautiful locations in the UK. It is within walking distance to the beach and train station. The apartment has everything you would expect and more - fully fitted and equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, specious wardrobes and other storage. We cannot praise the service we received enough, and we are looking forward to going back.
Location was perfect as we wanted to visit a lot of places in the area. Parking (secure) was a bonus as there is no where to park in any of the little bays or the narrow roads going down to them. The lovely seaside train into St Ives was just a couple of minutes walk away, the journey was only 2 miles and only costs a pound each! The owner has thought of everything you could possibly need, whatever the weather. Beautifully equipped with just everything you would need at home. EVEN...Left milk in the fridge for us to make a cup of tea on arrival... and a lovely cornish cream tea, coffee, tea, shortbread all set out on a tray....and a very nice bottle of Champagne too! We can't thank the owner enough for making our stay in Cornwall perfect.
It is ideally situated for Carbis Bay and the train service to St Ives or even London! We had a lovely week around the area. We enjoyed St Ives and went in on the train several times. We also visited the National Trust properties in the area and gardens open to the public. The area between St Ives and St Just so natural and unspoilt. The beaches are fabulous and clean. The accommodation was excellent and the extras were wonderful. We used to have a holiday cottage we rented out so understand the work that goes into this.
This was our third stay at Sea Shells. On the approach to the apartment you see the view, you know you’re somewhere really special..The apartment is fantastic, very modern and there’s everything you could possibly need there for your stay. The attention to every detail is perfect, there’s a lovely welcome pack on arrival with milk and Cornish scones for that much needed cuppa after a long journey. The beach is just a 5 minute walk and after a long day you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the sea view. The little train station is at the bottom of the road so you can be in St Ives in 3 minutes, it’s a lovely journey. We love it here and can’t wait to return.
We stayed in this amazing apartment for 4 nights. The place is spotless and has everything you need, even a PS4! The shower in the en-suite is so powerful and all the beds are very comfy. Great sun traps at the front and rear of the property. The welcome pack was a real treat, and very much appreciated. The beach is a short walk away and is beautiful and clean, and the train station into St Ives is a very short walk away. If you are looking for perfection look no further as this place has it all.
Our first time in Cornwall and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The apartment is amazing, luxurious, with fantastic sea views. Anyone having trouble walking/mobility would have no issues accessing the apartment. We traveled to St Ives by train as car parking can be tricky. We eat locally at Becks Fish and Chips and La Cassita and both restaurants were superb. We enjoyed days out visiting Lands End, St Michaels Mount, Eden Project and Roskilly’s Cornish Farm. I can recommend both the coastal and public walking paths near Carbis Bay Train station. We will be definitely recommending the apartment and Cornwall to friends and family.
We have had a fantastic holiday here!! The apartment is fabulous, beautifully decorated, clean and great equipment! We were thrilled with the welcome tray!
Only 5 minutes walk to the beach, all downhill on the road then down steps and slopes onto the actual beach which was big, clean and gentle. Great Watersports company on the beach with Kayaks, Stand up paddle boards & canoes, we had SUP lesson and the team there were so helpful and friendly!
All in all we have had a fantastic holiday and the Sands and would highly recommend it to others
The facilities were second to none... The location was superb... The weather not so good but didn't dull our stay at all
The apartment has everything you need for a great relaxing stay. Modern apartment set in the best place to explore southern Cornwall. Five minute walk to the train station with a 3 minute train ride into St Ives. The apartment is fully equipped for a family of four, very clean , tidy & well looked after and with Carbis Bay beach a stone throw away what more could you wish for !
We have been very fortunate to stay in Carbis Bay on several occasions. We have always stayed in hotels. We thought we would try an apartment this time. To be honest the pictures on the website really doesn't do the place justice. It's way better than the pictures. A beautiful apartment. The owners were very helpful from the moment we booked our trip to the day we left. Brilliant location, my family loved it. Would I go back? Absolutely!
We stayed here in May. This place is perfect. Superb location, secure parking every little thing has been thought about, which makes for a really relaxing stay. The railway station is just a short walk away. The train takes just 3 - 4 minutes to get you into St Ives and all for a pound each. Of course you can take the coast path which gives stunning views of Carbis Bay and St Ives. Everything you need for a great holiday is included, even down to wind breaks for the beach and bucket and spades. We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. Thank you for the gift Fay, it was most thoughtful.
We can't wait to return, its just finding the time. We just loved the place Thank you.
Fantastic apartment 10/10, all information given was accurate, the property was very clean and very well maintained overall, has everything you would need and a real home from home. On arrival there were fresh flowers, tea, coffee, chocolate, Cornish shortbread, milk and even a chilled bottle of Champagne in the fridge, which I really enjoyed after the long drive. the property is perfectly located for a walk to St Ives (25 mins or so) or to catch the local train to St Ives, the Station is only a few minutes walk away and the train journey takes around 3 minutes. The apartment has a lovely enclosed patio, which was a real sun trap! and a garden terrace with sea views. There is allocated parking set within a very pleasant private court yard. We thoroughly enjoyed the Spanish restaurant at the top of the road and ordered traditional Tapas and Paella. There was a great variety of places to eat in St Ives and the recommended restaurants were excellent. We all had a surfing lesson at St Ives Surf School, the Instructors were very friendly and great fun! We went on a sea safari, hired a small speed boat and visited several local attractions. The Beech at Carbis Bay and around St Ives were stunning! with golden sands and clear blue waters. I would recommend this holiday to relatives and or friends. We will definitely book again!
This is the second year we have stayed at the apartment. It's lovely and spacious and very modern. It has everything you need, it's fully equipped including all of your beach essentials, which is wonderful. What a fabulous surprise that upon arrival there's tea and coffee, milk and a lovely welcome card. You can sit in the lounge and enjoy the sea view. Every detail has been thought of. The location is fantastic, 2 minute walk to the beautiful beach of Carbis Bay. The little train station is at the bottom of the road so you can hop onto that and head into St Ives which takes only a few minutes. We look forward to returning again next year.
