Comfort, Peace and Tranquillity

By Liz And Brian Stannard on 11-Oct-2020

If you want to escape the current challenges we all face, this is the ideal place to go. We booked just a week before we went, having felt anxious about the Covid situation and in need of a break. Kings Grove proved to be the perfect escape and we were not disappointed.
The barn is beautifully appointed with everything you might need for a self catering stay. The setting is idyllic and we felt totally surrounded by nature with a wealth of walks on our doorstep.
Leena and Geoff are lovely hosts who have gone out of their way to share their love of nature with their guests. It seemed that nothing was too much trouble and it was lovely to chat to them and take advantage of their first hand knowledge of the area.
We plan to be back as a week in the Shropshire Hills is not long enough to do them justice.

Rural Retreat

By Christine Clay on 02-Oct-2020

Leena and Geoff made us welcome to their lovely cottage in a great location which had everything we needed and more. Very helpful in giving advice as to walks and things to do in the area.
King Grove is in a location allowing peace and quite and some great walks from the door into the surrounding area. Much more a short drive away to explore, a really perfect place to feel at home and enjoy the Shropshire country side.
Highly recommend.

King Grove farm

By Tina Sandford on 11-Sep-2020

A lovely, clean and well equipped cottage hidden away for a perfect slice of peace and relaxation. The cottage is in a good location for visiting the beautiful Shropshire and Herefordshire countryside with its many walks and historic buildings and villages. The owners, Leena and Geoff were so welcoming and helpful , we cant wait to return.

Perfect stay

By Jan Watson on 21-Aug-2020

This immaculate holiday home was a great find. It is remote enough to get away from it all with loads of lovely routes to walk directly from the house and yet only a short drive to local shops, pubs and restaurants.
The house itself has a cottage feel and despite being attached to the owners property felt very private. Actually having the owners Leena and Geoff nearby was a great advantage to draw on all their local knowledge of the area.
We stayed 3 nights here and loved every minute. The house itself is beautifully decorated , and the gardens are stunning with several out door seating areas to sit and enjoy the view.

Lovely

By Mr Antony Walker on 02-Sep-2019

A beautifully presented cottage, cosy and homely. Very much off the beaten track but easily accessible. Great for those who like some peace and quiet but also quite near enough to places like Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth. Lots to do and see in this lovely part of the world and hosts Leena and Geoff are helpful and welcoming. We stayed for 5 very comfortable nights with a group of 6 adults with plenty of room for all. Well equipped cottage with all the facilities and mod cons you could wish for but Wi-Fi reception is best at the bottom of the stairs! Recommended, nothing to find fault with at all.

Leena and Geoff have provided a wonderful rural retreat and we had a wonderful 5 days at King Grove Cottage.

By Mrs Bird on 13-Aug-2019

It felt like you were away from the hubbub of town life but with all the home comforts, including WIFI and a mobile phone signal which kept the younger family members entertained. The cottage itself is set in beautiful surroundings with 4 separate outdoor seating areas offering different opportunities to catch the sun. King Grove Cottage was well equipped with plenty of fridge space (which is sometimes lacking in holiday cottages) as well as comfortable sofas and beds. It was lovely to have a log fire on the cool summers evening. There was a good variety of books to read and a small selection of games. The water comes from the nearby spring and was delicious! There is plenty to do in the area without having to drive more than 30-40 minutes. There are local walks directly from the cottage as well as lots of other walking and cycling routes closeby. We visited Stokesay Castle, Ludlow, Darkey Dale Forest Riding Centre and had a fascinating tour of the National Spaceguard Centre where Jay Tate monitors asteroids and comets! I have no hesitation in recommending King Grove Cottage and was sorry to have to leave - I hope we'll return again in the future.

This is a beautiful place to stay and felt really luxurious.

By Mrs Pitt on 27-Jul-2019

The house itself is equipped to a really high standard and meticulously maintained. The garden and outdoor spaces are amazing. It is in real countryside, so is very quiet, and nicely distant from any light pollution (we had a fantastic view of the International Space Station as it orbited). however, it is not tricky to reach and we shopped easily at the excellent supermarket Tuffins in Craven Arms, which really seemed to have everything. The owners were very helpful - Leena even lent me some walking boots! There is so much to do near to King Grove, especially if you like a variety of walking (e.g. Long Mynd) and sight-seeing.

The cottage was excellent and the owners very helpful.

By Mr Campbell on 29-Dec-2018

They had decorated it for Christmas which was a nice touch given we went there to celebrate New Year. We cooked a meal for NYE and were amazed at how well equipped and stocked the kitchen was. The cottage is beautiful and has a lovely country feel with beautiful furniture - we couldn't have asked for more. Be careful to read the description as there is no WiFi at the cottage - we knew this in advance, but worth noting. The owners were keen to point out that they have tried and continue to try and get BT to route a cable or something up to the farm, but it is very rural and so they are struggling to get this to happen. In our mind though, it was perfect without it though - you don't go to the countryside to spend all you time on the internet! All in all a great little cottage, well equipped, in a charming rural setting and was exactly what we needed - in fact, probably one of the better cottages we have stayed in over the years.
Note: WiFi now addressed.

We enjoyed our week at King Grove Cottage very much.

By Mrs L Stephens on 08-Sep-2018

The cottage is delightful, the owners, Leena and Geoff, couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful and the situation is absolutely lovely. Wonderful outlook from the garden seat, utterly peaceful surroundings and the lack of street lighting in the area made night sky viewing (when the clouds obligingly cleared) a real treat. Lots of helpful info. in the cottage about places to visit. We ate locally at The Hundred House, which was excellent for both food and service. We were within easy reach of Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Ironbridge (THE bridge is plastic-wrapped at present (bit of a surprise!) but the museums are good). Also visited Knighton and made the trip up to the Spaceguard Centre, the view from there is superb. Everywhere we went the food was good and everyone most pleasant and helpful. Would certainly like to go back in spring or early summer for the birdsong. All in all, I would give King Grove and its owners 10 out of 10. (L. Stephens, Cheltenham)

We already knew the cottage was perfect for us , having stayed there in 2017.

By Mr Lee on 18-Aug-2018

We were pleased to be able to re-book and upon arrival immediately felt again that we were in a "home-away-from-home". The cottage was again immaculate and the hosts are extremely welcoming. The cottage is well-equipped and in a delightful, secluded location where you really feel you can get away from it all. The Shropshire area is beautiful with wonderful walks and ruined castles to explore, as well as numerous pubs and tea-rooms in the area. We would happily recommend this cottage to others who are happy to be "off the beaten track" and wish to explore or walk in the local countryside.

Lovely cottage in an idyllic location.

By Mr C Roberts on 16-Jun-2018

Peaceful, clean and comfortable. Local area is really good, lots of excellent walks, Long Mynd is stunning as is Ludlow. The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable and did everything they could to help or assist.

This cottage is in a beautiful isolated position, with only the owners in the next door house.

By Ms E Basquill on 26-May-2018

The house was clean, comfortable and well equipped. It is set in a green valley about a mile from the small village of Clunton. There are so many places to visit in the area that we never drove more than 16 miles radius of the cottage. Ludlow, Stokesay Castle, Acton Scot working farm. lots of walks too. The Ludlow Food Centre is a must for foodies. The local people are friendly and welcoming and service in pubs and restaurants excellent. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the countryside, walking, and history. The Welsh border is just a few miles away too.

Lovely cottage, even nicer than it seemed on the website.

By Mrs T Manning on 31-Mar-2018

It was very comfortable, clean and recently renovated, with a clean and well-stocked kitchen. The owners are helpful and friendly, but not intrusive. Stunning location with walks from the door, and near villages with good pubs and tea rooms. A great area for walking, visiting castles, antique shopping and eating! Will definitely be coming back.

By Mr J Lee on 19-Aug-2017

Delightful secluded location and a "home-away-from-home". We all felt comfortable immediately on arrival; the cottage was immaculate and our hosts could not have been more welcoming or accommodating throughout our stay. The cottage was very well-equipped and we loved the feeling of coming home at the end of each day. Would happily recommend this cottage to others, and would definitely re-book if we were to holiday again in the area.

King Grove Cottage was a delightful well- equipped barn conversion.

By Mr E Woolfenden on 17-Jun-2017

In a beautiful and peaceful location, one mile from the main road so off the beaten track. We had hot weather so were able to enjoy barbecuing, and the tranquility of relaxing in the gardens overlooking the nearby valley. The owners, Leena and Geoff were very friendly and welcoming and keen to make sure we were comfortable. A couple of friends who joined us for part of the week were equally impressed with the cottage. We would certainly recommend King Grove without any hesitation.

What a good choice it was to book this lovely welcoming and spacious cottage.

By Mrs P Ward on 03-Jun-2017

The furnishings and facilities were first class and the atmosphere so peaceful. We fell in love with it the moment we saw it appearing at the end of a lovely little approach lane and our opinion did not change. Beds really comfortable; haven't slept so well for a long time. Surroundings so beautiful and peaceful where birdsong is the only thing you'll hear. If you love walking/hiking or exploring interesting places, of which there are many, including amazing ancient castles well worth a visit, then this is for you. Also, as the Welsh border is so close it is easy to skip between Wales and Shropshire to find yet more interesting activities and experiences. It certainly is a beautiful place to be and everything just adds up to a first class holiday. Hosts, Leena and Geoff were very welcoming and helpful. A pleasure to meet them. To sum up, the cottage is exactly as wonderful as it sounds in the brochure and we are looking forward to returning for another holiday.

Very friendly hosts, comfortable cottage, lovely area.

By Mr B Fox on 27-May-2017

We loved the chance to get away from wifi and mobile calls. The area is wonderfully unspoilt with great emphasis on local food, beer and ciders. Good for cycling (lovely quiet roads), walking including Offa's Dyke, nature (kites and buzzards), castles (Clun, Stokesay, Ludlow etc) and peace.

A truly idyllic Christmas, thank you!

My Wife & i had a lovely week at King Grove, it is so peaceful.

By Mr A Ellis on 03-Sep-2016

Leena & Geoff (the owners) live next to the cottage, but you wouldn't really know. In fact you could almost believe you were there on your own. The cottage could be described as remote as access is by means of a track from a single track road, being away from the village and a bit of a distance from the nearest farm, but it is only about five or six minutes in a car to the B road and the little village of Clunton where I recommend the food at The Crown.
The cottage is well equipped with pretty much everything that you will need, we couldn't think of anything that had been forgotten. Downstairs are the kitchen and good sized lounge, upstairs the bathroom and three bedrooms, two with double beds and one with two single beds. The kitchen has a cooker, hob, fridge, small freezer, small dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Most of the cupboards are full of crockery and kitchen equipment, but there is an empty corner cupboard if you want to fill it up with food. Many basics are supplied with the request that you replace what you use up, which is more than reasonable. The bed in the main bedroom is a king size with a memory foam mattress, which we found really comfortable as you just sink into it. So much so that my Wife seemed to form a semi-permanent attachment to the bed rendering her incapable of escape, I found it hard to get her to venture downstairs in the morning and only achieved this by cooking bacon. Joking aside I could appreciate that a soft bed isn't for everyone, but the beds in the other rooms are firmer and may better suit some people. The blackout blinds on the velux windows make the rooms dark, so you will need a clock you can read in the dark or you could end up being in bed all day. Leena and Geoff supply a range of DVD's, CD's and board games for you to use during your stay if you so wish. Outside are two or three seating areas where you can just rest and listen to the sounds of the countryside. Unfortunately the sun didn't shine very much while we were there so we didn't have an opportunity to make much use of the outside. Leena and Geoff also have two dogs, both of which are very friendly. Luna the Jack Russell loves to sit on the wall outside the kitchen window, looking in and hoping you will come out to make a fuss of her. The only downside, and I think calling it a downside is debatable, is the lack of mobile signal or Wi-Fi, although Vodafone and EE do work. Some people may find not being in constant contact with their nearest and dearest a problem, I personally thought it was wonderful. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable break which I would recommend to anyone to loves the peace and quite of the countryside. Would we go again – absolutely. Oh to repose at King Grove.

What a lovely find!

By Ecinl on 04-Mar-2015

My partner and I stayed here on a last minute getaway from the city and we're really pleased we did! The cottage itself is next to the owners house but still feels separate and private. After driving up the country lane leading to the cottage, that truly makes you feel like you are right off the beaten track (exactly what we wanted!), we arrived. Getting out of the car you can smell the fresh air, hear the birds and the stream in the distance - we could almost feel our shoulders relaxing already! We had a lovely warm greeting from the owners on arrival, complete with a welcome of fresh bread straight out the oven (thank you!). The cottage is nicely decorated with good quality furnishings throughout and has everything you need. The kingsize bed was incredibly comfortable and the surroundings are so peaceful, I had the best nights sleep I've have had in a long time! The logburner was a real treat and perfect for cosying up in front of, with a glass of wine. I think unless you are a very good walker, I would recommend a car to get there but once you are there, you have plenty of places in reasonable walking distance. The local pub is a couple of minutes in the car and probably about a 20 minute walk (depending on your walking speed!). It is run by the local community and had a lively atmosphere. We would definitely recommend fish and chips on a Wednesday night. Overall we had an absolutely lovely stay. It was a real change of scene and very much needed. Hope to visit again soon!
