Coniston Lodge is situated on a side road from the village leading up to the Old Man Of Coniston, and its adjacent mountains. It has fine views across to the crags behind the village. Built on the side of the hill, it is very similar in design to an Alpine Lodge, with wooden fascias, and parking provided under the building. We are ideally situated on the edge of the village. It is only a short walk (3 minutes) into the village where there are interesting shops and inns. If you like walking or mountaineering you won't need to use your car, just walk out of the door, and the mountains and woodlands are on your doorstep. The rest of the Lake District is easily accessible by car, or public transport if you prefer to leave the car behind.
The properties are fully centrally heated, but also have 'log effect' electric fires in the lounge. There are secluded garden areas where guests can relax with a cup of tea (or a glass of wine) after a day out on the hills, or a tour of the Lakes. We provide a laundry room with washing machine, tumble drier and ironing facilities for your convenience.
Lake Coniston is just a short walk away, where you can hire rowing or self drive motor boats. If you prefer something a little more splendid you can take a cruise on one of the Coniston Launch Companies lake cruisers, or the National Trusts restored Victorian steam yacht 'Gondola'.
Short Midweek and Weekend breaks are available during the winter, and at short notice during the Season. Please call to 015394 41201 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to enquire.

Lovely, peaceful stay!
By Deepesh P on 05-Jun-2017
Property was exactly as described. Very well located, lovely owners, who live onsite, so at hand if any problems. Apartment is perfect for family of four, with two bathrooms (powerful showers!), well equipped kitchen and stock of books. Central location meant we were able to keep car parked for much of our stay, which made a change!

We stayed in the Tarn Howes apartment overlooking the stunning gardens. Our apartment was very well set out giving plenty of privacy to both couples. Very comfortable rooms with cottage style decor, spacious lounge and dinner kitchen very well equipped and maintained.
An excellent place to explore Coniston and surrounding area.
From our lovely complimentary homemade cake to the amazing selection of preserves available to purchase from the larder and the best ginger bread we have ever had.
There is a lovely seating area in the garden to just sit and while away the time.
This was so relaxing and a little haven run in the most appropriate way for the Lake District.
We will definitely be returning.
Thank you very much

Clean and tidy, little old fashioned
By T Watling on 25-Jul-2016
Me and my family stayed here for a week at the beginning of July. (It is worth mentioning that the 'hotel' is no longer a hotel. It has been converted into two self catering apartments) it is located in central Coniston and only a short walk to the lake. It was very clean and tidy and offered all the mod cons. It was just a little old fashioned decoration wise, so not quite to my taste but as I've said there was nothing wrong with it. We arrived to a fresh sponge cake for us and milk and tea etc to allow us to settle in. There is off road parking too which is helpful. The owners live on the same site so are always contactable and happy to help. I would return here
Home away from home

Property was exactly as described with a lovely cake on arrival after a long journey. The apartment was perfectly positioned in a beautiful location. Our host was on hand to provide tips when needed. Apartment was beautifully maintained, every thing on hand to make this break one to remember. Views from the apartment of the Old Man was a great way to wakeup each day. we spent the week walking and exploring the area and will definitely come again. We cannot stop talking about our experience in the Lake District, the charm the views, the walks and look forward to returning in the near future. Thank you Mr and Mrs Robinson for making your apartment a true home from home for us,
So comfortable and cosy!
By RE M Badders on 02-Jul-2016
This was a great cottage /apartment . The owners had obviously gone to a lot of trouble to ensure visitors are comfortable and had supplied absolutely everything you could need. On arrival there was an absolutely scrumptious cake just begging to be eaten! And the fresh flowers on the table was such a nice touch. Having the two bedrooms and bathrooms separated by the main open plan kitchen/dinner and lounge area works so well if like ourselves there were two couples staying. Another plus is the covered parking under the apartment. The central location, just two minutes walk from three pubs, gives great options for eating if you don't feel like cooking. There are also a number of restaurants and a good fish and chip shop at the bottom of the hill. If your plan is to go walking this is definitely the place to stay as a number of walks can be made do the door and you are only five minutes walk from the lake itself. The accommodation has a really great heating system which was great on cool days and the most comfortable sofa to curl up on with a,good book! There are Windows the length of the apartment and so it is bright and airy and has a lovely view of the hills.
Highly recommended - Coniston Lodge
By June H on 18-Jun-2016
Very comfortable and in a terrific location. Would definitely recommend this lovely apartment for anyone visiting the Lakes. Very warm welcome and great advice on dining out from the owners. We look forward to another visit.
Very highly recommended
By Phillip B on 02-Jun-2015
Warm welcome by the owner and thank you for the lovely cake on arrival. Coniston Lodge is very centrally located in the village a few moments walk away from several pubs and shops and minutes away from Coniston Lake. Like previous contributors we did not use our car during the four night stay. The apartment (Tarn Hows) was very clean and very well equipped. We used the boat to get to Brantwood, (Ruskins House-well worth a visit) and for a cruise on Coniston Lake. We had a wonderful tour of the northern lakes with Coniston Tours. The Robinsons were very kind hosts making recommendations as to where to eat. Very good meal at the Black Bull and another at a new restaurant called steam. Would recommend Coniston Lodge and intend to visit again. Despite it being half term, the Coniston side of the Lake District was fairly quiet whilst Windermere was very busy. Thanks again to the Robinsons and hope the review is useful to others,
Comfortable stay in fantastic location
By Allison on 19-Aug-2014
We had a great stay in this clean and well-equipped apartment. We left the car behind and walked, went for boat rides and relaxed. Although seconds from the centre of Coniston, the apartment is tucked away and quiet with no-one above or below. Elizabeth and Anthony were friendly but unobtrusive and the homemade cake on arrival went down very well. Our group was mixed with an 11 and 70+ year old and we would all definitely like to return!

We loved our stay back in March (had good weather too). The delicious freshly baked Victoria sponge set the tone for the rest of our stay. Lovely place and could walk to most everywhere which made a refreshing change to the car. Our hosts were gracious and we really look forward to going back in the autumn. Just to say our accommodation was very comfortable and the location very peaceful and quiet at night, it was truly home from home for us.

We have stayed here every year since it opened and it has the same high standards now as it had after an upsetting year for the family and staff last year. Things have changed but the staff, food and setting remain as good as ever. Ideal for all types of holiday or event and with a variety of activities available in the extensive grounds. Ideal for dogs who are warmly welcomed and have some great walks on their doorstep
