Description

A self-catering farm holiday cottage in Devon, situated within easy reach of Dartmoor, the Tarka Trail and the North Devon and Cornwall coasts.

Fishleigh Farm and The Holiday Cottage

Set in the heart of Ruby Country, Fishleigh Farm lies along a track on the edge of Black Torrington village, only half a mile from the much-acclaimed Black River Inn.
There are spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, sunsets, sunrises and the occasional rainbow. This part of Devon has some of the darkest night skies in the UK and is perfect for star gazing.

The Old Dairy holiday cottage has been tastefully converted from a shippen, with a vaulted ceiling, and decorated in a homely country style. As it is located at the heart of a working farm, you will have wildlife and farm-life quite literally on your doorstep, but to provide you with your own outdoor space away from the working areas of the farm, the cottage has its own enclosed sunny garden with a grassy area and patio, with table and chairs for alfresco meals.

On your arrival there will be a welcome basket, to include bread, milk, butter, homemade preserves and fresh eggs from our hens – and of course tea, coffee and sugar.

The front door leads straight into the large living room with a dining area, sofa, easy chairs and TV. Patio doors lead into the garden. From the living room you step up into the well-equipped kitchen, which includes a full range of appliances, stainless steel sinks and a table and chairs.

The double bedroom with en-suite shower room is off the other end of the living room. A wardrobe and chest of drawers provide plenty of storage space, and there is a small child’s bed set neatly into an alcove. A further fold-up bed is also available – making The Old Dairy suitable for up to four people, with a maximum of three adults.

There is ample space just inside the front door for hanging outdoor coats, wellies and walking boots – essential holiday items, even in sunny Devon!
Whatever the weather, the cottage is kept cosy by easy-to-control programmable electric radiators.

About us

Mother and daughter, Shirley and Penny Richmond, moved to Fishleigh Farm in 2019, and opened The Old Dairy as a self-contained holiday let in 2021. The farm is laid to permanent pasture and has an expanding flock of Herdwick and Grey-faced Dartmoor sheep; the first pure Herdwick lambs arrived safely, ten, all curly black with white patches on their ears.
Penny is an enthusiastic carriage driver and enjoys sewing, Shirley gardens and leads a handbell group.

Thankyou for your hospitality, the hamper was amazing. So nice to have fresh eggs [something I miss now we don't have our own chickens any more] Such a lovely area to explore from. Hope to stay longer next time! Many thanks. Marie and Steve

Your generous hospitality

By Peter and Linda on 16-Sep-2024

We would just like to express our thank and gratitude for your generous hospitality during our stay at Dairy Cottage. The accommodation was superb, well equipped, clean and comfortable meeting all our expectations. The welcome pack and home made goodies were a real treat! The ideal location for exploring the wonderful surrounding Devonshire countryside and all it has to offer. We wish you both well and hope to see you at some point in the future.

To Penny and Shirley What a lovely place!! Thank you so much for your kind hospitality. The "hamper" was a real welcoming treat. We've had a great stay and were blessed with lovely weather. The "Old Dairy" is great and a great location. We made good use of your information "leaflet" so thanks for that too! Lovely to see the Series 2A!! Sadly all good things come to an end, time for us to leave this lovely place. Many thanks again. Bill and Gill {Leeds}

I first stayed at The Old Dairy with my late husband. We were made so welcomed we knew we had to come back again and we did, many times. I still return as it's so peaceful and has such fond memories. Absolutely beautiful place with everything you need for a short or long stay
