Description

Chill out, catch up and connect in your very own Hotel in the centre of the Forest of Dean. Forest House was once the home of industrialist Robert Mushet, the inventor of Steel, and more recently has been run with love and care as a 4* Hotel in July 2021 the ground floor was fully refurbished and redecorated to include a stunning new kitchen.

If you love the Forest of Dean as much as we do you'd be hard put to find a better location from which to explore its wonders. The House is right in the centre of the lovely market town of Coleford, so you can walk to shops, pubs, restaurants and the Studio Cinema.

Despite this central location just walk 5 minutes from the door and you're off road and into the scenic trails of the Forest of Dean, one of England's oldest. You can walk or cycle for miles, traffic free, and visit local landmarks like Puzzlewood (where they've filmed Harry Potter, Merlin, and Star Wars ) The Sculpture Trail, Symonds Yat, and the glorious River Wye. Keep an eye out for the wildlife won't you, especially the Wild Boar (though they're more likely to run from you than vice versa!)

The house has everything you need, sleeps 25 in 11 en suite bedrooms. . As it was a successful 4* hotel it's superbly equipped with a couple of lounges, a Games Room, a stunning dining room where you can all sit round the table in comfort and a real Chef's kitchen with everything you need to cater for the party with ease. You can really have fun together making and baking.

Outside there's a garden, a barbecue (of course), a furnished patio and a funky Hot Tub area for a bit of chilling after a day walking or cycling in the Forest or Canoeing down the nearby Wye. What could be better? We welcome up to 2 pets.

Bedrooms are all ensuite with TV's, modern bathrooms, spacious, comfortable, and (so important) warm. On the Ground floor there's a Double ensuite plus twin with adjacent bathroom and a separate disabled loo.

Forest House, its what holidays were made for.

We liked the layout of the house. Huge kitchen and dining area. The two lounge areas were perfect, great to have a quiet space, as well as the noisier lounge next to the pool table room. Outside space was lovely, plenty of seating for everyone. The Jacuzzi was a big hit also. The bedrooms are spacious and clean. Each having an en-suite was a big plus. Loads of room for parking cars, we had nine cars and not a problem fitting them in. So negatives from me and cant think of anything that needs to be done to improve the experience, so well done, we had a wonderful weekend.

Great venue in excellent location. We have a large family with ages ranging from 19 months to 91 years - it was great that we all had our own bathrooms and there were family rooms so everyone was accommodated comfortably. Suggestions for improvement: The second floor was uncomfortably hot (possibly due to the immersion heaters), fans in the rooms would be a great help. Also in one of the bathrooms (one on the left) we could not switch from bath tap to shower mode) It was great to have a barbecue available, but it was rather small when catering for the large group that the house accommodates. Having young children in the group, we were frequently sweeping up in the dining room. However, we could not find a dustpan and brush. We couldn't get the urn to work, despite following the host's instruction to change the fuse. However, we managed perfectly well with the kettle

The house is great for large groups. There were 16 of us and there was plenty of room for everyone. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well appointed and comfortable. The kitchen is great for cooking large meals for the group and we loved that we can all fit around the dining table. Loved having two dishwashers and the small back up fridge and freezer in the laundry hall. The washer and dryer worked great. The mud / coat & shoe room was brilliant for easy storage of our coats, packs etc. The gardens are beautiful and the location is perfect for quick walks to town. We even went to the cinema one rainy day. The edging of some of the dining tables is loose and should be glued down. Please tell guests that if the dryer isn't drying well then check the condensation water tray under the dryer - we emptied it and it helped with drying clothes.
