Location:
Godshill
Godshill is the quintessential English Village, and boasts some of the oldest architecture on the Isle of Wight. With its delightful medieval church, charming thatched-roofed cottages and a winding main-street lined with traditional tearooms, Godshill is as picturesque as it is popular. It is also known for being the site of the first ever Isle of Wight Festival, which took place at Ford Farm in 1968.
Whatever your interests there are plenty of things to do in Godshill during a visit. Along with its collection of traditional tearooms the village contains an interesting range of shops offering local crafts and produce, such as ciders, pickles, mustards and biscuits.
Godshill also has a very popular and highly detailed model village. The medieval All Saints Church (which gave the village its name!) overlooks the village from the hill and is a short but steep climb up either the steps or Church Hollow road.
Whether you are looking for a traditional cream tea or a tasty evening meal there is an excellent selection of places to eat in Godshill. The tearooms are a regular haunt for visitors and locals alike, and the local pubs are family friendly, with high beams and cosy fireplaces and are also highly rated for their food.
With its central location Godshill makes a great place to base yourself for a visit to the Isle of Wight.
As Godshill is located near the centre of the Island, there are plenty of direct buses northwards to Newport, across the Island to Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown and eastwards to Ryde.

A family friendly property in an excellent location
By N/A on 07-Apr-2026We thoroughly enjoyed our week in the cottage. It is spacious, well equipped and offers plenty of storage. It was great to have hand soap, clingfilm, cooking foil, etc provided. Its peaceful location is excellent - being just a few minutes away from family favourites including Blackgang Chine, Godshill model village, Shanklin and the Donkey Sanctuary. Our grandchildren loved the large garden, especially the play house and toys. We loved seeing the rabbits and birds in the garden - and appreciated the provision of bird food. We also appreciated the Easter eggs which had been left for us. We would certainly return here when visiting the Island again.
Wonderful Woodside
By Sue on 01-Jun-2025Another excellent stay at Woodside Cottage, a magical place. Two weeks of perfect weather meant we spent less time walking and more time enjoying the garden. Everything was as perfect as always and we are looking forward to returning next year. Home from home. Thank you Bob & Carole for another terrific stay.

By Sue on 18-Sep-2025We have stayed in Woodside Cottage a few times now and enjoyed each visit. When we have had any questions we have been able to contact Island Holidays who have been extremely pleasant and helpful. The housekeeping staff have been brilliant. There is a lovely spacious garden with a particularly pleasant patio area ideal on a nice sunny day. We have already booked two holidays for next year. Our thanks to the owners who have allowed us to share their home.
Perfect holiday home
By CAROL HILLS on 19-Apr-2026We stayed at woodside cottage in April with my daughter and her partner and 2 children. The house is lovely and so well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The children age 6 and 4 loved the garden which had a playhouse and a slide. Perfect location for visiting the island
