Description

Stunning Devon cottage with gorgeous garden and countryside views - spacious, well equipped home, comfortably accommodating up to 8 guests, with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Magnolia View Cottage is child and dog friendly with an excellent village pub a very short walk away. Set in the heart of the village of Goodleigh, close to Barnstaple in North Devon, this special cottage is ideal for holidaying in a lovely countryside retreat, near Exmoor and numerous beaches, with lots to do and see.

The space
This wonderful spacious holiday home is a Grade II listed 17th century Devon long house that has been thoughtfully renovated and refurbished throughout. It offers very comfortable accommodation, finished to a high standard, in a lovely quiet and tranquil rural setting.

Plenty of its history is presented throughout the cottage, with wooden beamed ceilings, tiled floors and an original fireplace, effortlessly combined with all the usual modern day conveniences to offer a relaxing self-catering holiday. There is superfast broadband with excellent Wi-Fi throughout the cottage.

From the main entrance hallway, you can head right into a spacious living room, complete with a generous and comfortable corner sofa, fireplace with wood-burner and large smart TV with Freeview and the option for guests to log onto their own streaming service accounts such as Netflix. There are also plenty of books and games to enjoy. This is the perfect spot for everyone to gather to relax and enjoy time together in the evenings.

Back through the hallway with its ancient wood pillar, there is a charming dining room featuring a large table with seating for eight people, a piano and Aga (which is used for heating in the winter and spring months), plus wonderful views of the gorgeous garden and countryside beyond. Through the dining room is a delightful modern country kitchen, well-equipped with everything guests could need for a self-catering holiday, and more. There is a kitchen table with four chairs, plenty of counter space and two sinks. Appliances include a Nespresso coffee machine, food processor, four slice toaster, kettle, microwave, large double electric oven with grill and induction hob, dishwasher, undercounter fridge and an additional large fridge/freezer, and washing machine (an indoor drying rack and rotary washing line to use in the garden are both provided). There is an Alexa to play music and for information requests. Through the kitchen is a modern ground floor shower room, with a wash basin and WC. The kitchen stable door leads out to the upper patio, garden and gorgeous views.

Four well-presented bedrooms and a family bathroom are found on the first floor. All are stylishly furnished to a high standard and enjoy superb garden and countryside views. There is master bedroom with a super king bed, a second double bedroom with a king bed and a TV screen to play DVDs and to use with the Nintendo Wii, a third double bedroom with a standard double bed, and a twin room with two single beds. The landing cupboard provides a selection of DVDs and Wii games, as well as a hairdryer, iron, ironing board and blankets. A stylish bathroom features a modern shower cubicle with overhead shower with additional shower attachment, separate bath, wash basin and WC (in the bathroom cupboard there are also nonslip mats for the bath and shower)

From the stable door in the kitchen or the back door at the rear of the main entrance hallway, the pretty countryside garden of Magnolia View cottage can be accessed. A highlight of this garden is the ancient Magnolia tree, together with the well-established flowers and shrubs and paths to explore the garden, all surrounded by unspoilt Devon countryside providing the perfect spot for making the most of the sunshine. The upper patio, with its table and chairs is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning views. If more shade is needed, there is a large umbrella for the table stored in the garden shed, together with various garden games and two folding recliner chairs. The lower patio has a picnic table and BBQ and is ideal for enjoying BBQs and dining al-fresco style. There is also a lawned area, and as the garden is private and fully enclosed it’s perfect for those guests holidaying with small children and/or a well behaved dog.

Magnolia View Cottage is a dog friendly cottage - a dog bed and bowls are provided for your four-legged friend. Please note: there is an additional charge of £30 to bring a well behaved dog.

The cottage also proudly provides baby and child friendly accommodation - a travel cot (please bring your own cot bedding), highchair, bed guard, stargate at the top of the stairs, children’s crockery, blackout curtains, a selection of books and board games and a Nintendo Wii are all provided.

As well as the woodburning stove in the sitting room and Aga in the dining room (which is on in spring and winter months), there are wall mounted electric radiators throughout the cottage.

The cottage is almost 400 years old and full of charm and history. The ceilings are full height, though there are a couple of low doorways connecting the dining room. Please note: there is a step into each room, so it may not be suitable for people with mobility challenges.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire cottage and garden. There is a key box.

Other things to note
In the village, local residents park outside their own properties. There is space for two cars to park immediately outside the cottage. Cars should park close to the wall, facing down the hill.

Magnolia Cottage is a gem

By Yasmin on 28-Oct-2025

Magnolia cottage is a gem. Booked for our half term break, we had the most wonderful time. The cottage is perfect in every way. Beautiful views, and a very pretty Englsh garden. The cottage is cosy, very clean, tidy and has all you need for a perfect stay. The kitchen is fully equipt and very attractive. The living room has a woodburner and snug sofas for relaxing and the dining room is heated by an aga. The bedrooms are comfortable, spacious and nicely decorated. The whole house is warm and very beautifully laid out This is truly the best holiday cottage we have stayed in. We didn't want to leave! Gaby and Mike were always on hand for questions, directions and recommendations. They are so friendly and very welcoming. They made us feel so at home. Thank you for the most wonderful stay. We would love to come back again .

The cottage was beautiful

By Lydia on 17-Apr-2025

Mike & Gaby were really helpful and friendly in the run up to our holiday and throughout, answering any questions we had about our stay. The cottage was beautiful and worked wonderfully for our group of 7 and a dog. All of the instructions were clear and Mike & Gaby left lots of things out to make you feel at home. We would definitely stay again!

The best equipped holiday home we had ever stayed in

By Ellie on 11-Jul-2025

Would like to thank Gaby and Mike for being such great hosts when we stayed at their beautiful Magnolia cottage in Goodleigh. Our party consisted of 6 adults and 1 child and there was ample room for us all. The bedrooms are all good sizes and beautifully decorated. We all agreed that it was the best equipped holiday home we had ever stayed in even down to candles for our daughter’s birthday cake! The New Inn pub situated almost next door was excellent - the food was delicious and Justin and Julia were very welcoming. The beaches around the area are beautiful- especially Saunton Sands and Woolacombe and we particularly enjoyed a visit to the Dartington glass factory. But the main memory we will have is of the breathtaking garden and glorious views- absolutely amazing. We hope to be back again very soon.

Perfect location for a family get together

By Alison on 15-Jul-2025

Perfect location for a family get together - plenty of room for 7 of us and 2 dogs. The cottage itself was delightful with a superbly well equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting room, good sized bedrooms, lovely well established garden and great views. Gaby and Mike were so helpful with directions and the welcome card and bottle of wine were much appreciated. A nice touch. We didn't have to call on them while we were there but I certainly got the feeling that if we needed anything we only had to ask and nothing would be too much trouble. A real gem.

We had a really wonderful long weekend

By Eleanor on 21-Jul-2025

We had a really wonderful long weekend with the whole family (three generations!) + a dog at Mike and Gaby’s place. Everything was just what we needed, with amazing views to wake up to each morning and peaceful surroundings. The area itself is close to lots of nearby attractions and lovely beaches. We’d love to come back! Communication was great with hosts too.
