It offers a spacious kitchen with dining area, utility room, large lounge and all bedrooms have their own en-suite bathrooms. We’re located just outside the pretty North Norfolk village of Great Massingham and surrounded by tranquil countryside, offering lots of great dog walking in our own fully enclosed paddock or on the network of pathways around us. Guests walking to nearby Peddars Way National Trail will pass by our resident alpacas en route to the the local village with its award winning pub, shop and tearoom.
Facilities in the cottage include a fully-equipped kitchen and a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and laundry facilities. The lounge has 3 large sofas to comfortably seat up to 7 guests, a wood-burner, Smart TV and DVD player. The king and twin bedrooms have handmade wrought iron beds, quality bed linen, televisions and hairdryers. The en-suite bathrooms have either a bath with shower over or a large walk-in shower and heated towel rails. Towels and toiletries are also provided. Especially designed to be very dog friendly with a terracotta tiled floors and leather sofas to withstand the occasion doggie misdemeanour, The Dairy makes no concessions on comfort and style. It is particularly popular with our canine guests as the large fully enclosed dog exercise paddock is just a a few steps away from the back door. The Dairy is also particularly suited for those who are less mobile. There are no steps or stairs inside the cottage, it has wide hallways and there is a large walk-in shower in the twin room.
From October to May we offer weekly stays (7 nights) with a Friday arrival/departure day as well as short breaks of 3 nights (Friday to Monday) or 4 nights (Monday to Friday). During June, July, August and September we offer stays of 7 nights with a Friday arrival/departure day. That said, if you see a gap in our calendar which doesn't fit those options, do contact us as we try and be as flexible as possible, as long as availability allows.
Our annexe rooms to provide a sleep 6 option are not always available at the same time as the cottage so please contact us to check availability and for pricing if interested in this option.

Leave ReviewBrilliant holiday / spotless accommodation
By Tracy S on 04-Mar-2025What a lovely place. Gill and Dave were amazing hosts, always available but not intrusive. The place was spotless and had everything you could possibly need to make a great stay. Well located for local pubs / beaches by car. Great area for walking and you can take a scenic route to the village. Gill's information packs are second to none! Had a lovely stay and will definitely return.
Ideal family holiday
By Michael B on 11-Aug-2024We had a lovely week in the Dairy. The cottage is beautiful and a perfect place to relax after busy days - comfortable furniture, a well-equipped kitchen and good showers! We were in the area for a wedding but the location was great for a family holiday with fantastic nearby beaches and good local walks, including a stroll for dinner at the excellent village pub.
Home from home
By Mark B on 07-May-2024Our second trip in 7 months to The Dairy at West Heath Barn which for us is a very warm and welcoming "home from home." I have been holidaying in Norfolk for as long as I can remember (50+ years) and find West Heath Barn to be the perfect location to really get away from it all. An idyllic setting, quiet and peaceful with plenty of walks and open countryside quite literally on your doorstep. Gill and David couldn't be better hosts, always happy to help should you need anything , and they keep both the accommodation and the whole site immaculate. The Dairy is plenty big enough for two couples with the option of a third ensuite bedroom should you need more space. West heath Barns are very well appointed, with everything you could possibly need we often eat in which is easy to do as everything you could need in the kitchen is there already. West Heath Barn is very dog friendly with an ideal large "dog run" securely fenced right next to the living accommodation which is ideal for late night leg stretches. The owners dog is always happy to keep any other visiting dogs company should they so wish! If you have any special requests Gill and David are always happy to help wherever possible but its unlikely you will need to ask for anything, most likely its already in a cupboard somewhere! Great Massingham is an ideal location for those not wanting to be "on the coast" , it offers a very peaceful alternative but is only a half hours drive through beautiful Norfolk countryside should you wish to visit. Massingham is well served with a decent pub, village shop (well stocked) and a small cafe with Fakenham , Swafham & Kings Lynn only a twenty minute drive if you need larger shops. All in all a great place to stay to get away from it all, we will be back in the autumn.
The perfect relaxing dog-friendly getaway with lovely hosts
By Helen C on 06-Nov-2023We just had the loveliest weekend away at The Dairy cottage in West Heath Barn - the property was really spacious but warm and cosy and everything was immaculately clean and finished to a very high standard. Beds were comfy and every detail was thought of. It really exceeded our expectations. Even had a cake waiting for us! The little paddock out the front was great for our greyhounds to have a safe runaround. A lovely bonus was seeing the 4 cute alpacas which the hosts kindly spent time for us to experience feeding and taking them for a little walk. My 10 year old daughter particularly enjoyed this exciting experience. The hosts were really friendly and helpful, and gave us some great recommendations of things to do and places to eat which were all fab. We drove up to the huge open beaches and there is a lot of stunning nature around, very relaxing area. 100% recommend!
Fantastic Family Stay
By Donna S on 01-May-2023We had a fantastic time staying at the Dairy Barn during the Easter holidays. The barn was super clean. It was very well equipped too. Nothing was too much trouble for Gill & and Dave, and the Alpacas were very friendly. Perfect get away for us, a family of 4 (children aged 9 & 7 years )....plenty of fantastic days out within easy reach, including Holkham, Wells, Brancaster, Sandringham & Bircham's windmill. Thank you.
Delightful break at The Dairy
By AngelaKk70 on 30-Jun-2022We thoroughly enjoyed our first holiday at West Heath Barn, so much so, that we booked our second holiday, during our first visit! When we arrived, we were delighted to find pretty flowers and a delicious homemade lemon drizzle cake on the kitchen table. The hosts, Gill and Dave gave us a warm and friendly welcome, and were extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with whilst booking our holiday, and during our stay. Our cottage was immaculately presented, and beautifully and thoughtfully appointed, enabling us to feel content and comfortably at home. The fully enclosed and secure dog field was an added bonus. Our two dogs absolutely loved romping around the spacious field. Gill and Dave have several alpaca’s, who are delightful characters, and a daily highlight was to walk past their field to watch them interacting with each other. Glorious countryside is right on the doorstep and we loved exploring the various routes. With easy access to the Peddar’s Way, we enjoyed walking into Great Massingham and had a few delicious meals at The Dabbling Duck. We also thoroughly enjoyed breakfast at The Cart Shed - their tasty bakes are also amazing! We would like to thank Gill and Dave for their wonderful hospitality and for such a fabulous holiday. We very much look forward to our next stay at West Heath Barns We will most certainly be rebooking future holidays with them in the future.
