The converted barn sleeps four in two bedrooms, has a bathroom with a separate shower room, kitchen/diner and lounge, with fantastic views from all windows. The cottage is fully equipped, centrally heated and has unlimited Wi-Fi - a complete home from home in the Yorkshire Dales. In the nearby village of Muker there is the Farmers Arms, which also provides lunch and evening meals and a fine selection of local beers, an art gallery and Swaledale Woollens. Heading in the other direction, approximately one mile away, is a gastro pub, the Punch Bowl, in Low Row. The village of Reeth is only six miles away and offers further pubs, tea shops, newsagents, general stores, a garage, Post Office and many other art/craft shops. Keen cyclists can rent bikes from the Dales Bike Centre at Fremington, which is seven miles away. Those with a sense of adventure can visit the highest pub in England, Tan Hill Inn, which is ten miles away.
The village of Gunnerside is at the centre of Swaledale and is the ideal base for exploring one of the finest unspoilt dales with its famous lead mining history. There are an abundance of breathtaking walks straight from the door of the cottage, with The Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Path close by together with the newly opened Swale Trail which gives you twelve miles of cycle path from the door of the cottage.

Superb Cottage

By J & S Cuckow, Suffolk. on 05-Mar-2018

Our second stay in this wonderful cottage. The views are inspiring, the peace and quiet is so relaxing. When you stay at a cottage and think to yourself ''I would love to live here'’ you know that you have found a real gem. A comfortable and very well equipped place to stay. The owners, Rob and Sally, are so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the best places to go. We will definitely be returning, many times I hope.

The description does not do this cottage justice- a perfect location within swaledale. Superb views. One of the nicest bedrooms we have ever stayed in. We visited with our two preschoolers- so enjoyed kites/dams/tiny tiny walks and poohsticks. We also enjoyed the Reeth Show and utilised the little bus service for linear walks. The cottage itself was perfectly clean and all the little details thought of. Especially kind details for the children. Thank you so much, we felt really well looked after and rested :-)

My Response

Thank you so much for your kind comments on the cottage. It was lovely to meet you and we are delighted that you found plenty to occupy two small children for an adventurous fortnight. It would be lovely to see you again.

Another wonderful holiday at Roof Farm Cottage

By Annick R on 16-Jul-2016

Leafing through the Guest Book we noticed that several guests keep coming back to Roof Farm Cottage and that is no surprise at all! We spent our annual summer holidays for two years in a row in this lovely cottage and just like last year we were sad to leave after two wonderful weeks with great weather and lots of walks, some of them starting from the door. We discovered the travelling chippy (great!) and also some great new walks. Thank you Rob and Sally for letting us enjoy this lovely cottage! and please do give our best wishes to our friends at the King's Head, we spent many a pleasant evening there enjoying the delicious food and the good company.

My Response

Thank you for your lovely review. It is such a pleasure to have guests return especially two years in a row and travelling such a distance. You will always be welcome and we will aim to keep the cottage as homely and comfortable as we possible can ready for your next visit. Take care and hope to see you soon, Rob & Sally.

Fabulous1

By Louise H on 16-Apr-2016

We had a wonderful week! The cottage is cosy and warm and has everything you need to for a comfortable and happy stay. The views are breathtaking and it's a joy having the sheep and newborn lambs just outside the door! We had beautiful weather and were able to eat outside on the terrace for 3 days. We loved the Kings Head pub in Gunnerside (5 minutes walk) which is friendly and serves the best chips we have ever tasted! Excellent menu. Our Border Collie Gracie was so happy with stunning walks straight from the door. Rob and Sally, you made our holiday perfect in every way, from the moment we contacted you right until we had vacated your lovely cottage. Thank you. We highly recommend this beautiful little cottage to anyone who is thinking of a holiday in Swaledale.

The cottage had everything we hoped for and more!

By P.B on 22-Sep-2015

Booking was completely hassle free and the owners so helpful and patient with my questions.. This lovely cosy cottage was even better than it sounded, so well equipped I kept discovering new items until the last day! Lots of extras provided. Lovely spacious lounge, workable kitchen ( we ate in most nights) and brilliant hot water /heating system. Everywhere tastefully decorated, well maintained, clean and user-friendly. The views were superb, we could have sat in the garden for hours! Watch the sunrise from the bedroom windows and the sunset from the lounge. Quiet and peaceful as promised. Amazing selection of games, books and CDs, great hi-fi too. Local pub/tea room staff were welcoming and the fish and chips from the travelling chippy on Friday night were worth braving the midges for :-) The surrounding area has so much to offer as well. Would love to return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Thanks Rob and Sally for offering your lovely property to others to enjoy.

My Response

Thank you, your comments are greatly appreciated. We try very hard to make the cottage a comfortable home from home and it is wonderful to receive such a generous review. We love giving others the opportunity to enjoy the cottage and the Dales. Thank you for taking the time to write such a glowing review and we hope you come back soon, you will always be welcome. With best wishes Rob & Sally.

A gem in Gunnerside

By Line R on 29-Jul-2015

Roof Farm Cottage is a lovely, cosy cottage with stunning views all around. The rooms are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you might need. Excellent beds, too. The cottage was spotlessly clean and in impeccable order. Nice little patio for al fresco dining and enjoying the hills and wildlife. From our very first enquiry, we found the owners to be charming and extremely helpful. We enjoyed the bistro and pub, both at walking distance, for its excellent food and warm welcome. We had the most wonderful time, and so did our dog. This is certainly a cottage we would recommend.

My Response

Thank you for your terrific review. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your holiday in the Yorkshire Dales and that the cottage lived up to your expectations. It is always reassuring to hear that our guests found the cottage welcoming, clean and comfortable and they leave relaxed and well rested. We look forward to welcoming you back. Thanks again. With best wishes Rob & Sally.

Amazing location

By Paul N on 25-May-2015

We had a great week at the Roof Farm cottage. We did amazing walks from the cottage so aching legs were soothed in a lovely warm bath at the end of the day. Plenty of wildlife to compliment the views from all around the cottage. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Very friendly pub 5 mins away in Gunnerside which allows dogs and serves food each night. The cottage itself is very clean and had everything we needed. We hope to return for sure!

Fantastic Week

By Tina G on 15-May-2015

We thoroughly enjoyed our chilled out week at Roof Farm Cottage. The views are wonderful, the cottage was really warm (always a good thing for an April break), beds are very comfortable and the amount of attention to detail regarding guest's needs is amazing (all kitchen cupboards full of everything and anything you may need). The amount of up to date tourist information supplied made it very easy to plan outings in the warm sitting room over a glass of wine instead of struggling with leaflets in a cold windy street in the morning. Well done Sally and Rob, we will be back!

Peaceful perfection

By Tomos Dog on 10-Dec-2014

This cottage really lives up to its description. Quiet, rural location with beautiful views from every window, equipped with everything you could possibly need (we especially appreciated the good quality HiFi), very comfortable beds with lovely fresh linen, nicely furnished and maintained immaculately throughout. Rob and Sally could not have been more efficient, friendly and helpful throughout the enquiry and booking process and provided very detailed information to help us enjoy our stay. The cottage is particularly well-situated for walkers and cyclists wanting to explore this quietest, most unspoilt of the Yorkshire Dales: you could spend a whole week here and never use your car. We would recommend it unreservedly and fully intend to return in the Spring.

Recommended for: Pet-friendly, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway.

My Response

Thank you for your very kind comments especially as this is our first year as owners. It is very rewarding to know that you appreciated the cottage and the beautiful scenery of Swaledale. We look forward to you visiting us again in the Spring to enjoy the lambing season. With best wishes Rob & Sally.

A little piece of Heaven in Yorkshire

By Paul D on 19-Jul-2014

We arrived at Roof Farm Cottage to find it spotlessly clean and in a position on the hillside with scenery to die for !!. The property was as described. The facilities were excellent and everything that we needed for a self catering holiday was supplied in the cottage (Even down to a small sowing set for repairs to buttons). The views from every window of the cottage were stunning. There was also a good collection of walking books and brochures on all the local places of interest. These books were really helpful and many walks can be completed from the front door of the cottage. We would recommend this cottage. It was lovely !! :-) We loved our stay and will be back. Thanks Sally and Rob :-)
