Rock Cottage stands completely alone and overlooks the Mawgan Creek of the Helford River. It has been in the same family for over 64 years and there is nowhere quite like it. The grounds are very private and extend to almost an acre, bordering the peaceful waters of the creek on two sides. The wrap around garden is steep in places but leads to a large wooden staging and to the foreshore where Peggy, our sturdy rowing dinghy awaits you. Some guests choose to fish, kayak and paddle board from here or go wild swimming. Children and adults too enjoy crab fishing from the jetty.

The property is beautifully appointed with high quality furnishings throughout, equipped and maintained to our very high standards. There are two bedrooms in the main cottage, which sleeps two adults with two children comfortably, and a spacious third bedroom in the adjacent Garden Room. This room enjoys an exceptional view, has zip and link beds, a 40" TV and is ideal for a couple. The bathroom is on the ground floor of the main building. All rooms have full central heating by radiators; so whatever the season, the house is warm and welcoming. The hallway leads to the beamed lounge with its original cob walls, window seats and a copper canopy inglenook. The kitchen/diner has a picture window, quarry tiled floor, small pantry and all the facilities one needs to cook. The view from here is amazing. Many guests sit watching the bird and river life with its ever-changing scenery from either the kitchen or outside on the patio.

Our rates are fully inclusive of electricity, oil (CH), bedding, bath sheets, bath towels, hand and tea towels, bathrobes, luxury toiletries, household essentials, cleaning service, rowing dinghy, selection of buoyancy aids , baby bath, cot, highchair and changing mat, dog gate and of course BT broadband (wifi). We will accept an obedient dog for a small charge of £5 per day but for reasons of hygiene and consideration of other guests, dogs must be kept out of all the bedrooms, including the separate Garden Room, the newly carpeted lounge, and kept off the furniture. A dog gate is supplied. For more information concerning dogs, please ensure you download and read the Rental Agreement for Rock Cottage, paragraph 7 before you decide to book.

The location is perfect for exploring the Lizard Peninsula and within a short drive of 15 minutes you will reach some of the areas finest beaches for swimming or body boarding - we are spoilt for choice! Gunwalloe Church Cove, Dollar & Fishing Cove, Poldhu, Polurrian, Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands, Coverack and Cadgwith are all favourites. Within a short walk from Rock Cottage you will find the thriving Mawgan Stores, your nearest local shop, which is well stocked with just about all you may need during your holiday. On your way you will pass the 12c Church of St Mawgan in Meneage and The Ship Inn. Many of our guests dine at this very popular, well established pub with restaurant or simply stop by for a local ale and then amble back along the lane. Take away fish and chips is available from here too and Mawgan stores sell their frozen meals. In the opposite direction from Rock Cottage, if you cross the ancient stone bridge at Gear and proceed up the hill towards St Martin, you will reach the Gear Farm Pasty shop. The Cornish pasties are made on the premises and are perfect for a lunch time treat. Further on is The Prince of Wales at Newtown St Martin; with very friendly hosts, a big and varied menu to choose from as well as a large garden. Both the Ship Inn and Prince of Wales accept well trained dogs.

As well as the Ship Inn, locally there is the New Yard Restaurant and a Chinese restaurant in Mawgan, The Black Swan at Gweek, The Prince of Wales at Newtown St Martin, the Halzephron at Gunwalloe and the Shipwrights Arms in Helford. At Porthleven there is Rick Steins Restaurant, Kota Kai, Amelies, Naughty but Ice, cafes and pubs too.

You will find Rock Cottage appealing, with attention to detail in all rooms, your beds made, and personally prepared by Linda and Robin just for you. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay, in an excellent location with no other properties within sound or sight, then Rock Cottage is your perfect holiday destination. Fantastic Place To Relax & Unwind - Wonderful!

By Richard A. on 26-Sep-2018

Rock Cottage is a wonderful base for a holiday in Cornwall. The view of the creek at different times during the day will both delight and relax you.

The cottage itself is excellent, furnished to a high standard and has everything you could possibly need for the stay, including "Peggy" a rowing boat moored at your own jetty, so you can go out on the creek, life jackets are provided of course.

We spent many a happy hour on the jetty catching crabs, and there are hundreds to catch, so no one gets disappointed.

Linda, the owner was on hand via phone or email if we needed her and simply let us get on with a wonderful stay, we loved the sweet peas and flowers in the cottage, there were lots of lovely little touches like this.

The location of the cottage is great, just outside of Mawgan village and you can easily reach lots of interesting places within a half hour drive, we managed St Ives, Porthleven, Coverack, Goonhilly Earth Station and nature reserve, plus a bit further and you have Pedn Vounder beach (well worth the difficult cliff descent) and St Michael's Mount.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek is less than 10 minutes away, and you get to go back for free too.

There is a Sainsbury's near Helston , just a short drive away plus Mawgan Stores in the village to, if you want local produce.

Give this place a try and you will not be disapointed, we have returned home relaxed and with happy memories of Rock Cottage and Cornwall.

Perfect Location

By John H.Romsey, Hampshire, UK on 26-Sep-2018

It's no exaggeration - you really do get these wonderful views sitting at the table outside, or even from the big window in the kitchen/breakfast room. We spent a good part of every morning and evening just gazing and looking at all the interesting birds, such as Redshanks, Curlew, Little Egrets, even an Osprey!

The cottage itself is immaculate. Everything is new or in very good condition, and it's all there - both filter and cafetiere for coffee, two ovens and a microwave, etc. etc. and lovely bedding.

The local pub has excellent food, but you really do need to book in advance. It's a 15 minute walk there, maybe a bit less on the way back as it is then downhill... And the village shop has a lot of excellent local produce.

The only possible downside to Rock Cottage is that there is only the one bathroom, downstairs. And if you are in the lovely annex bedroom you have to go across the little courtyard to reach it, but you do have the compensation of lovely views of the creek from your bed!

So thank you Linda and Robin, we really enjoyed our stay.

Very Well Kept And Presented Property In A Stunning Setting.

By Alex P. on 26-Sep-2018

We really enjoyed our stay, we were lucky with the weather, so made full use of the gardens and river, our granddaughter had her first boating experience on ‘Peggy’, with the addition of our canoe and Kayaks we all had fun on Mawgan Creek. As I mentioned in the title, the house and gardens are very well kept. Linda has been so helpful, especially since we left a couple of items behind and she kindly posted them on to us. Thank you for our lovely stay

Perfect Cottage, Stunning Views And Ideal Hosts!

By Angie P. on 26-Sep-2018

Our holiday to Rock Cottage was perfect in every way; from the glorious setting on the river, to the cosy cottage with all mod cons topped off with lovely hosts who give a warm welcome and willingness to help in any way. And what a lovely bonus to have a rowboat to take out on the river. It really is a very special place and we can’t wait to get back there!

Lovely Little House In Idyllic Setting

By Rob T. on 19-Jun-2018

This is probably the most fully equipped property we have rented in 40 years of self catering holidays all over Europe. Its also extremely comfortable, well looked after and cleaned. The cottage is quite small with only one toilet, which is on the ground floor, and an open staircase that could be an issue for the elderly, though we are both into our mid 70s and coped OK. Cooking facilities are excellent and the village shop is well stocked. Porthleven has a superb fresh fish shop and Trevaskis Farm shop near Hayle is a wonderful farm butcher. If you are not into that sort of thing there is a village pub/gastropub (the Ship, must book meals) about a mile away up the lane in Mawgan village. The hill will certainly give you an appetite and the walk back is delightful. There are several other food pubs within a few miles including the superb Trengilly Wartha Inn. The garden is bursting with wildlife which can be watched from the comfort of the kitchen table if the weather is imperfect. Its quite a shock to find a normally shy Jay or Greater Spotted Woodpecker looking at you from the bird table only a couple of Metres away. The creek is home to egrets, shelducks, swans, mallards, herons and gulls etc. Even binoculars are provided. I suspect we will be back, legs permitting of course

Absolutely Fantastic Cottage

By Gary C. on 16-May-2018

Superb location with excellent views down the creek and surrounding landscape. The cottage is spotless with all that you would need and more. It has a lovely homely feel and is full of character. The gardens are spectacular especially as all the spring flowers were in bloom. It's a haven for birdlife which can been seen in the garden & creek. The owner has made the property a home from home with lovely touches such as fresh cut flowers from the garden and a cream tea on arrival. Would recommend Rock Cottage to all and hope to visit again some day.
