Description

LAST MINUTE - LONG WEEKEND Saturday 2nd May (3 nights minimum). See our website to make an instant booking.

There are a couple of weeks left in June and also the school holiday weeks: 23rd May, 18th July, Friday 14th August and a six night stay from Friday 21st August. Our boat is included in the rent for you to enjoy this fabulous spot.

Stay in our comfortable and stunning waterside property while you enjoy a peaceful time gazing at the exclusive estuary view. Rock Cottage stands completely alone in an acre of grounds overlooking the unspoilt Mawgan Creek of the Helford River in AONB. The property has been in our family for 71 years and we believe there is nowhere quite like it!

Away from crowds, the scenery is tranquil and ever changing throughout the seasons; there are no other properties in sight, and you will have Rock Cottage all to yourself!

The open garden borders the peaceful waters of the creek on two sides, is steep in some places but leads to a large jetty and the private foreshore. Peggy, our sturdy rowing dinghy is moored here during the main holiday season. Guests may fish, kayak, paddle board go wild swimming as well as enjoy hours of fun crab fishing from the jetty. A large wooden picnic table is perfectly sited close to the jetty so you may get up close and watch the birdlife as well as the fish that arrive with the gentle tides.

The Cottage is beautifully appointed with high quality white goods and furnishings throughout, equipped and maintained to very high standards with three bedrooms including the separate Garden room, and comfortably accommodates a maximum of four adults with two children. The cottage is warm and inviting as all rooms have full central heating by radiators.

The hallway leads to the beamed and fully carpeted sitting room. This has original cob walls, a large inglenook fireplace housing an electric wood burner, window seats, high quality sofa and matching armchairs. For entertainment there is a grand selection of board games, puzzles, jig saws, many Cornish novels, books of local interest, maps, binoculars, a Smart TV, DVD player and music system with ipod dock and two USB points.

The kitchen/diner, with its amazing views, is fitted with an AEG steam oven, Panasonic microwave, Smeg ceramic hob, AEG washer/dryer, 60/40 fridge freezer and a new Bosch dishwasher.

Many guests choose to sit and watch the bird and river life with its ever-changing scenery from either the kitchen table or outside on the patio. Here, the morning sunshine is perfect for breakfast, coffee time, brunch and alfresco meals later in the day. Relax in the recliners or sit at the new outdoor dining furniture and soak up this peaceful scene.

Newly renovated on the ground floor is the luxury bathroom. There are opening windows which face the garden, a large tiled window cill, wc, wash hand basin and cupboards, large bath with an overhead electric shower and electric underfloor heating for the cooler time of year. A tall radiator keeps your towels dry.

Upstairs and along the landing is the Master bedroom with a 5ft bed, and the adjacent young persons bedroom with two single beds normal length and 2'6" wide. Both rooms have polished wooden floors with long soft rugs, solid oak furniture and fabulous unspoilt views of the creek and beyond.

A couple of paces from the front door is the spacious Garden Room, which comfortably sleeps two adults. This room is unsuitable for young children. As well as its exceptional view, the zip and link beds offer the option of two singles or a six foot bed when two adults have requested this and are sleeping in here. There is also a wall mounted 40" television all complimented with white New England style bedroom furniture: combination wardrobe with drawers, dressing table, mirror, chair, bedside cabinet and overhead reading lamps. For more comfort we have provided an easy chair so you may look out of the panoramic windows and gaze at the fabulous views of the garden, woodland and the water beyond.

Rates are fully inclusive of our boat (which is suitable for up to four adults), BT superfast fibre wifi, electricity, heating oil, Dorma, Sanderson and Egyptian cotton bed linen, bath sheets, bath towels, hand and tea towels, luxury toiletries, dishwasher tablets, toilets rolls etc. For a baby we can supply a travel cot, highchair and changing mat upon request. The property has its own off-lane private parking area which is suitable for two large vehicles.

Dog: We will accept an obedient dog but only when there are no more than four persons staying in the cottage at any one time. The pet should be kept in the kitchen and hallway where the floors are washable please. For reasons of hygiene and consideration of other guests, the dog must not enter any of the bedrooms, including the separate Garden Room, the carpeted lounge and kept off furniture. A dog gate will be in situ to assist. The charge for a pet is £6.50 per night.

A Damage Deposit of £200 is payable with the final amount. This is returned within 48 hours. Payment is preferable by BACS please for the final amount otherwise charges will be incurred if payment made by Stripe and PayPal.

We do expect all guests to respect our property including the boat and report any damage as this may result in a charge.

**Our website accepts payment by BACS and internet banking. There is the option of Stripe and PayPal for debit/credit cards. Discounts will only be given when all payments are made direct to BACS.

Within a short walk from Rock Cottage is Mawgan Stores which is full to bursting with local produce. On your way, you will pass the 12c Church of St Mawgan in Meneage and The Ship Inn. Many of our guests dine at this very popular, well established pub/restaurant or simply stop by for a local ale and then amble back along the lane. In the opposite direction from Rock Cottage, if you cross the ancient stone bridge at Gear and proceed up the hill towards St Martin, you will reach the Gear Farm Pasty shop. The Cornish pasties and sausage rolls and cakes are made on the premises and are great for a lunch time treat. Further on is The Prince of Wales, which serves pub fayre, and also the Gwella Dairy, where you may purchase their own brand of ice cream.

As well as the Ship Inn, locally there is the New Yard Restaurant in Mawgan, The Black Swan at Gweek, the Halzephron at Gunwalloe, the Shipwrights Arms in Helford and Trengilly Wartha Inn near Constantine. At Porthleven there is Kota Kai, Amelies, the Mussel Shoal, Naughty but Ice, cafes and pubs too. Lizard Point has two great cafes with stunning views. The spectacular Kynance Cove has a visitors cafe too.

Rock Cottage has an enviable location for exploring the Lizard Peninsula and within a short drive of 15 minutes you will reach some of the areas finest beaches for swimming or body boarding - we are spoilt for choice! Gunwalloe Church Cove, Dollar & Fishing Cove, Poldhu, Polurrian, Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands, Coverack and Cadgwith are all favourites. Fascinating wildlife to watch around coastal areas: see Dolphins, Seals, Humpback whales, many varieties of sea birds and the Cornish Choughs. Gweek Seal Sanctuary, St Michael's Mount, Geevor Tin Mine, Trebah Gardens, Eden Project, boat trips on the Helford River and to St Mawes, Penzance, Falmouth Maritime Museum, St Ives, Newquay and Lands End are a few ideas for outings from Rock Cottage, which is ideally placed for sightseeing.

You will find Rock Cottage appealing, with attention to detail in all rooms and the relevant number of beds made up. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay, in an excellent location, with no neighbouring properties within sound or sight, then Rock Cottage is your perfect holiday destination. For lots more information, photographs and to instantly book your holiday with us, please go to our website. We look forward to welcoming you here very soon!

Pure Escapism!

By Thomas Dunn & Family on 07-Apr-2026

We could have wiled away our break just at Rock Cottage - the peace, scenery, wildlife - pure escapism! The Cottage is so well equipped - everything's been thought about. Highlights - paddle boarding up and down the creek at high tide. Grebe beach was stunning! Thanks Linda and family for making our Easter stay so relaxing and easy! We hope to visit again. Thomas, Liz, Jill, Anabelle and Romily (Bristol).

Enchanting and well kept as ever!

By Andy, Carmel, Fleur and Matt on 04-Oct-2025

Thank you for a lovely week in Rock Cottage. We've greatly enjoyed watching the tide come and go and exploring the local area. A particular thank you for our welcome pack and the delicious saffron buns. The cottage was as well kept and enchanting as ever; we hope we can come back again and experience the creek at another season too.

Thank you!

Breathtaking views

By Jon and Lynsey on 23-Aug-2025

We've had a great week staying in Rock Cottage and enjoyed taking Peggy out to explore the creek and fish from the boat! Lots of fabulous places nearby - we loved Poldhu Cove especially. We highly recommend dinner at The Ship Inn, great service and one of the best meals out we've had for ages. Falmouth is good for shopping and everywhere you go there are breathtaking views. Jon and Lynsey (Hampshire) 23 to 30 August.
