Overview
Description
Stay somewhere unique and relax in a country cottage with historic features, four poster bed and log burner, plus use of an enclosed dog exercise paddock.Located within the Howardian Hills National Landscape, just outside of Helmsley (under 2 miles), Riccal Dale is a characterful and cosy cottage in a tranquil location. A perfect base for exploring North Yorkshire's two National Parks, York, Whitby, Flamingo Land and Castle Howard. The cottage sleeps 4 and welcomes 2 dogs.
Riccal Dale has an open plan living and dining area with old beams and stonework plus log burner. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a four poster bed (double bed size) and the other with two single beds. The bathroom has been recently refurbished.
Riccal Dale Cottage has use of: an EV charger, an enclosed dog exercise paddock, extensive gardens, and onsite parking (for 2 cars). Dog love the bridleway at the end of the drive - leading to local woodland, the Ebor Way and Helmsley. The fenced dog field is popular year round - perfect for an off lead stretch of paws as it is fully fenced and gated (but not guaranteed escape proof). There's a dog shower available too, as well as towels, throws and bowls.
Tucked away down a private lane, Sproxton Hall Cottages are surrounded by farmland, with unique far reaching views over to the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills National Landscape. However, we are not far off the beaten track and you will be able to explore the best of North Yorkshire's scenery, history and cuisine. York, Whitby, Castle Howard and Herriot Country are all popular with guests throughout the year.
Helmsley is the most dog friendly visitor town that we know and has a castle, walled garden, birds of prey centre, micro-brewery, and in the summer months there's a heated outdoor swimming pool. With lots of one of a kind shops and places to eat, you'll find that many are dog friendly.
A travel cot and high chair are available - to ensure availability, please request at the time of booking.

Leave ReviewLovely cottage in a rural setting with beautiful views
By Calla on 14-Jul-2025Lovely little cottage in a rural setting with beautiful views. Dave and Helen were extremely friendly and helpful and provided great facilities for dogs such as an enclosed paddock, towels, bowls, dog shower and fantastic meadow maze. Our dog loved it and so did we!

One of the best UK holidays we have ever had
By Daniel on 07-Jun-2025"We had a fantastic stay in this cottage. We have 2 dogs and the secure open spaces available to them were exceptional. There are great walks right on the doorstep and the local village of Helmsley is beautiful. The cottage itself was lovely, cosy with great facilities and amazing views. Our hosts were extremely helpful and for us it one of the best UK holidays we have ever had. Highly recommended".

A wonderful 3 night stay
By Asad Ahmed on 25-Feb-2025We had a wonderful three-night stay at this farm cottage. It’s in a nice, quiet area with plenty of open space outside, making it a great place to relax. The views were beautiful, and we picked the perfect time to go for stargazing. Helen was very prompt in communicating from the start, and both she and Dave were incredibly accommodating hosts. The cottage was comfortable and well-equipped, making it a great retreat for our family.
Probably the best we've ever stayed in
By Emma on 19-Feb-2025This was probably the best .....we've ever stayed in. It was a lovely place, clean and comfortable. Helen and Dave were so friendly and helpful, they had the heating and the lights on for us when we arrived even though it was really late. They even set up the travel cot for us. They check in regularly and give good local recommendations. The dog paddock is great to have and dog towels and bowls are provided. We saw loads of wildlife from our windows.
