Set in a superbly quiet position in the peaceful village near Newport with views up to Carisbrooke Castle. At the rear of the cottage there is a brook where you can watch the kingfisher catching his breakfast. There is a small level patio running along the width of the cottage along side the brook, overlooking the old mill. The brook is fenced off and gated therefore safe for young children. The front garden is laid to lawn & flower beds where there is a small patio with a bench table, where you can eat breakfast. There is parking for 2 cars at the front of the cottage, with additional parking a short distance further up the lane. There are numerous bridleways & footpaths through to the countryside, directly from the cottage & of course Carisbrooke Castle is only a short walk away. In the summer months special activities are arranged for children. There is a village shop (Co-op) It is a short walk over the Forde and has a Post office where you can buy your newspaper. Outside the Co-op is the bus stop with a bus service into the Principle town of Newport for all the main shops. IOW is a network of small country lanes & nowhere is very far, including the beaches - it just takes a little longer! We regret that we cannot accept pets. It is not that we d
on't love them, we have children who come who have allergies.

We have compiled an information pack, giving ideas of where to go and eat.

From the front door, you enter into a spacious double aspect dining room overlooking the brook with beamed ceiling. A large table, comfortably seats 8. There is the use of a high chair & a toddler chair.

The stairs in the dining room lead up to a shower room and 2 bedrooms. One single bedroom and a family bed room with a double bed and a single bed. Both rooms have wash hand basins. In the family room, there is an interconnecting door that leads to the *3rd bedroom with a king size bed and ensuite bathroom and WC. From this room there is another staircase leading to the ground floor. The bedroom can be accessed independently, from this staircase.

From the Dining room, there is a double aspect living room which is comfortably furnished. There is a TV and DVD. From the living room there is small lobby area that leads to the 4th bedroom which has a single bedroom and room for a put u up bed. There is a separate shower room and WC. There is a 2nd staircase that leads up to the *3rd double bedroom (description above).

The kitchen is well equipped. There is a gas hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer. There is a separate Utility which houses the washing machine and tumble drier.

The price includes bed linen and towels, dish and table clothes and includes the final clean. Also included are loo rolls, kitchen paper towels, tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper, washing powder and dishwasher tabs and more………

The cottage is situated in a quiet lane and sometimes you can hear the donkeys baying from the castle. The surrounding area is a Conservation area of outstanding natural beauty. The land has easy access to many walks and of course, Carisbrooke Castle is a short walk away. Many folk use the lane to exercise themselves - and their dogs! The brook runs along the back of the cottage and has shallow waters that run crystal clear - so clean that it attracts kingfishers. In the summer children have a lot of fun paddling around in the Forde, searching for small fish

The front garden is small and enclosed. The lawn area is elevated and accessed by 2 stone steps. There is a large patio area outside the kitchen door with a patio table and chairs to seat 8. As the cottage is thatched, we do not recommend having a BBQ.

Beautiful charming cottage

By BECCA - DORSET on 04-Aug-2014

Cresswell cottage is a beautiful & quirky. It had everything we needed especially in the kitchen which not all holiday cottages do. Quirky layout with the two staircases but our 2 children found it fascinating & great for hide and seek! Excellent location on the island being in the middle so ideal for exploring all over. The cottage is just a small walk away from Carrisbrooke Castle which was a lovely day out.

Beautiful cottage

By SALLY - WORTHIG on 03-Aug-2014

I have to say that the website doesn't do Cresswell justice. It's a beautiful period cottage in an idyllic location with a brook running behind it. It's very comfortable and well equipped. The owners and Alison (the lady who looks after the cottage) are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We had a lovely week and would highly recommend the property.

Fabulous Accommodation

By CAZZER - KENLEY on 03-Sep-2013

Cresswell Cottage is a beautiful cottage set within site of Carrisbrooke Castle. It is fantastically equipped with everything you would need for a stress free holiday. The Gardens are beautifully maintained and the brook that runs alongside is very calming.

I could not recommend this Cottage highly enough and would give it 5 stars, more if able

Cresswell Cottage

By DEE - REAING BERKSHIRE on 03-Sep-2013

A lovely cottage, supplied with everything you could want for a relaxing stay, and an ideal situation for exploring the island.

The stairs are rather steep, but as there is a downstairs en suite bedroom, this shouldn`t really be cause for concern.

My children loved the steam and ford and there is a very nice pub in the village which serves good food.

All in all a fab place to stay...... would love to come back for a third time next year.

The perfect cottage

By MLB - NOTTINGHAM on 31-Aug-2013

Whilst the photos and information are 100% accurate, they don't do justice to this delightful property. It far exceeded our expectations.

On arrival the cottage was immaculately presented. The charming manager welcomed us and was easy to contact throughout our stay. A faulty dishwasher was replaced in record time with a brand new one.

Our party consisted of six adults and a toddler (three generations) and the space was ideal for us - we never felt cramped. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the utility/laundry area is easy to use. All appliances are of high quality. The dining table had ample room for us all and we had lots of leisurely meals there. The spacious sitting room has comfortable seating and is well furnished. Each bedroom is different; the pretty bed linen was immaculate and the decoration throughout matched the cottage perfectly.

The cottage is quirky - the two sets of stairs are steep and the two upstairs bathrooms are cleverly tucked into the eaves, but we felt everything was perfectly safe for pensioners and toddlers (stair-gate and hand rails/ropes in place). The downstairs bedroom and bathroom made the accommodation very flexible.

The garden is small but perfectly formed and the outside sitting areas well stocked with table and chairs; there are even additional deckchairs in the utility room! The decked walkway along the rear, by the mill-stream with its watercress, is magical for children (and again, perfectly secure and safe).

The cottage is home to more games and wet-weather activities than you could ever need. Island guides, local history books, maps and brochures are well presented, informative and extensive.

The location of the cottage, both within the village and on the island is unbeatable. Playing pooh sticks in the ford was one of the highlights of our stay! Being able to walk up to Carisbrooke Castle was another bonus. We liked being able to walk to the well-stocked local Co-op for our shopping (they have the most friendly and helpful staff).

Carisbrooke is well served by buses (the two Festival goers found their journey very easy) and because it is so central it is simple to radiate out to every part of the island. We visited a different beach each day and did some lovely walks too.

As you can see we fell in love with Cresswell Cottage and you won't be surprised to hear we immediately re-booked for next year. What greater praise is there? For us it was perfect.
