Description
Sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms (one king, one twin). It has sliding patio doors and an airy open-plan ground floor, leading to a sunny, fully enclosed garden. It is a family and dog-friendly cottage with 20 acres of space to run and play within the rewilding project.Dittiscombe Estate is a 20-acre valley, all managed for the enjoyment of guests who have exclusive access to the nature trail which winds through woodland and meadows. Dogs are welcome as there is plenty of space to walk and play safely in the garden and grounds.
During the school summer holidays there is a Family Nature Walk every Sunday through the Estate with local ecologist Ken Neal which is free to Dittiscombe guests. There are also seasonal Forest Bathing sessions and more information about these can be given on request.
The sitting area features a stone-built fireplace and surround with a flame-effect electric fire and storage heater, Wifi and TV with streaming, bookshelves, two double sofas and coffee tables.
The fully-equipped kitchen area has a ceramic hob, microwave, electric oven and storage heater, and the dining area has an extending oak dining table and four chairs.
The bathroom is on the ground floor and has a bath with electric shower over, an electric fan heater and storage heater, basin and toilet.

One step through the patio doors takes you to the fully enclosed level garden which is surrounded by trees, hedges, climbers, a stone wall and fencing. Wooden tables, chairs and a bench all sit on a gravelled area with garden pots and climbers, with a further area of lawn in front. A wooden gate leads to Willows garden next door.
Dittiscombe is set in the heart of the South Hams, most of which is within the South Devon National Landscape. It's about 2 miles (or a 10 minute care ride) from historic Slapton Village, Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve and the unspoilt beaches of Start Bay (all are dog-friendly).
The bustling estuary towns of Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth .are approximately 20-30 minutes by car. There are steam train rides from Totnes to Buckfastleigh; ferries which take passengers up the River Dart to Greenway, Agatha Christie's summer house; plenty of walking along the South West Coast Path; and many types of watersports to enjoy in the area.

We come back as often as we can.
By Mr & Mrs Doherty on 02-May-2026We have stayed several times and come back as often as we can. The cottages are very comfortable and well furnished. They sit in a quiet valley amongst lovely scenery. We made a point of getting back each day in time to enjoy the tranquility.
Dittiscombe is so dog friendly!
By Liz & Ian on 18-Oct-2025Some places claim to be dog friendly but what they really mean is dog tolerant. Dittiscombe is so dog friendly.
This was our second visit
By M. Byfield on 02-Nov-2025John and Ruth the cottage owners run a lovely group of cozy cottages. This was our second visit. We loved our stay in such a lovely little cottage with its tranquil garden and bird song. Can't recommend it enough.
Lovely, relaxing week.
By Doherty on 03-May-2025We had everything we needed for our stay. We were made very welcome as usual and had a lovely, relaxing week. We enjoyed an evening stroll around the grounds. Something you can't do at every location. We absolutely plan to visit again, and you can say better than that.
Great for our 2 dogs
By McHugh on 23-May-2024We love Dittiscombe and have stayed here many times, the location is peaceful and it's great for our 2 dogs as we can walk them around the trails straight from the cottage. The cottages are clean and comfortable and we hope to return soon.
