Beautiful place

By Daniel on 22-Oct-2019

Beautiful place with a view of the harbour from the top floor. So much to do in the surrounding area, lost gardens of Heligan, lots of nice beaches which you can walk to from the house. Really friendly village as well, everywhere we went people were chatty and nice to us. Also good if you're vegan, a lot of places had Vegan stuff on the menus and ones that didn't were happy to offer alternatives, plus you could get a vegan pasty which was a bonus. Thoroughly recommend

thimble cottage

By Leanne Taylor on 03-Aug-2019

We spent a week as a family of four. The cottage was perfect and just as described, with a real attention to detail.
The kitchen was well supplied to self cater. The new shower room was great and the outside space was good when it was sunny!
There was a really helpful folder full of local info which we found very useful.
It was lovely to be able to wander into the village quickly for provisions and nice meals. we would definitely return!
Thanks

By Nicky & Terry on 01-Sep-2018

We really enjoyed our stay in this cottage. It is very clean and very nicely decorated and the kitchen very well equipped. Mevagissey is a lovely place to stay, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Lost time just watching the comings and goings in the harbour. Would suggest booking a table in the main restaurents as they are popular. The walk to Heligan gardens is stress free and recommended. Thimble Cottage and the atmosphere of Mevagissey made it a relaxed and memorable stay.

Gemütliche Wohnung in besucherfreundlichem, aber nicht zu touristischen Fischerdorf

By Georg Klein on 29-Aug-2018

Lovely stylish cottage in a great location

By Woods on 03-Sep-2017

Lovely quaint cottage with lots of cute decorative touches and shabby chic decor which really made it feel very homely. Mevagissey was great and had good community feeling even though obviously has lots of visitors at this time of year. Lots of recommendations of things to do, places to visit and suggested restaurants etc We did some great walks on the coastal path and visited Heligan, Fowey and Eden and enjoyed some great meals out (including the Portuguese restaurant as recommended!) All in all a brilliant holiday so thanks for everything.

Lovely well equipped cottage in a great location

By Steve And Lisa on 30-Jul-2017

Lovely, well-equipped cottage in a great location.
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
We stayed in July 2017, and Thimble Cottage had everything we needed: from a variety of tv options (for the almost inevitable rainy day!); to a lovely outdoor space; a comfy lounge for relaxing; and (a big plus for my partner) good quality toiletries!

It was well-maintained, spotless (very important to us!) and with pretty much every convenience you could need. I'm not even marking it down for the low beams upstairs, which my head never really got used to!

The location is perfect for a quiet Cornish break, and there are plenty of good places to eat. You can do some decent walks right from the door, including Heligan Gardens (about 40 mins gentle strolling).

All in all, we wouldn't look at anywhere else in Mevagissey!

Dream cottage in Mevagissey
• 5 of 5
Everything about this cottage, and what the visitor might need, has been carefully thought through and organised. The property description is accurate and the cottage is as well designed and decorated as it looks in the photographs: bright, cheerful and comfortable. Fiona was very helpful with queries prior to staying. Dropping off luggage and then taking the car to the main car park for the reserved parking space went without a hitch. When we arrived, the cottage was immaculately clean; everything worked and was exactly as described. We had stopped off at a supermarket in St Austell to stock up on our way down, but after that we were able to get everything we needed from the shops in Mevagissey; we ate in the cottage mostly but if you want to eat out there are pubs, cafes and restaurants in Mevagissey to suit every taste and budget.
Fiona has put together a wealth of information in the 'house book' about places to visit: useful if you have kids (beaches) or are just visiting as a couple (heritage, gardens, etc.). There are also helpful recommendations and comments in the Visitors' Book. Highlights of our week in the cottage were several walks along nearby parts of the spectacular south west coastal path, Fowey (by ferry from Mevagissey), Lanhydrock house and gardens, Porthluny beach and walking to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The romantic story of the rediscovery of the gardens has led to Heligan becoming such a popular destination that, although the gardens are beautiful and interesting, the compromises needed to manage the sheer number of visitors mean there is little romance and nothing "lost" about them any more.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Thimble cottage - having it to come back to at the end of the day compensated for some poor weather - and would wholeheartedly recommend it to friends and relatives.

Holiday by the Harbour
• 5 of 5
We have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Thimble Cottage. It is beautifully designed and perfectly appointed, just a few hop and skips down to the bustling Meva harbour and within a few minutes drive of some beautiful beaches and villages. My teenage Daughters were very well catered for. The cottage has all mod cons and we had everything we needed in great comfort. The little sun trap courtyard is perfect for a couple of "sharpeners" before heading out for dinner or preparing freshly bought fish in the cute kitchen with spanking new oven. We were blessed with glorious weather and spent many an hour watching the fishermen hauling their catch onto the quayside and spying the comings and goings from the picture windows in the bedrooms. Fiona is a super host, answering all our pre-stay questions swiftly and dealing with the booking process painlessly. Parking was a doddle..just drop luggage , shopping etc at the Fountains Inn, then round the one way system to the secure overnight car park..complete peace of mind and parking permit all included! We enjoyed living like a local. Very clean and cosy with super comfy beds and modern bathroom with fab shower, we highly recommend Thimble Cottage and look forward to visiting again soon. ps. Fiona has a file of local recommendations in her beautifully beamed sitting room..may we add Carlyon Beach. It has just been spruced up with a Sam's bar, fish cafe with daily invited pop up eateries, Calypso music, beach frisbee pitch, safe bathing and a vast sandy beach, We went every day and my girls loved it..and just a 12 mins drive from Thimble!

Thimble Cottage Mevagissey
• 5 of 5
We have just returned from a blissful week in the most gorgeous cottage in lovely Mevagissey. There was much 'wowing' as we entered the cottage and explored its various rooms, nooks and crannies. It is not only extremely tastefully decorated, but also maintained to a very high level. It was spotless and we found everything we wanted in the kitchen and all other rooms. Relaxation from Day 1! We particularly liked watching the boats come in from the window on the top floor - there are even binoculars supplied by the owner! The area is magnificent for walking and being outside. We travelled by train and didn't miss having a car at all. Local buses were reliable and we loved trekking along the coastal path and taking ferries. Highlights of our holiday - and there were many - was our trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and hiring mountain bikes from a local village. So many beautiful off-road paths to explore. It was a great week and a real treat to spend a holiday in this country. We have missed Thimble Cottage this week and have a fabulous collection of memories. We would recommend it to all our friends.

A hidden gem
• 4 of 5
The cottage is a hidden gem that allows you to get away from it all. It has all the modern conveniences you would need including the dreaded Wi-Fi. It is not suitable for anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs and steps. The terrace out the back has the sun all day long and is a great place to chill with a good book and cold beer or glass of wine. The local hostelries are friendly and welcoming with a plentiful of selection of food, so driving is minimal. There is a local beach and leisure centre which is on the main road into Mevvy, 5 minute drive. This is particularly helpful if you have children, our granddaughter loved it. There are plenty of local craft shops in Mevvy to get those must have Cornish souvenirs. But if you feel the need for the traditional shopping St Austell is only15 minutes away and there are many of the other popular Cornish holiday venues no more than an hour's drive away, holiday traffic permitting. We wanted a quiet week away in comfortable and friendly surroundings and that is exactly what we got. Having lived in the South West for 30 years previously we did not wonder too far as Mevvy and Thimble Cottage had everything we needed.

Thimble cottage is a stylish gem in the heart of Mevagissey. Set one row back from the harbour side it was a tranquil haven in the heart of the village with excellent views. We had such a relaxing time there. The back garden was a sheltered sun trap, great for breakfast and BBQs. The immaculate inside had everything we could need and was so comfortable. Mevagissey has a lovely mix of locals and visitors, great little shops and a huge choice of places to eat, all easy walk from Thimble. The coast path is just around the corner, 5 minutes to the beach. Fiona the owner was so helpful, the car park guys welcoming and the short walk added to the escapism. Can't wait to stay there again.

We have been to thimble cottage twice now, once in September 2015 and again in February 2016. It was a chance find on owners direct and we found to our delight an excellent find. The cottage is cosy, well maintained and in a lovely setting. Having stayed in summer and winter I can recommend both. The owners go out of their way to be helpful and welcoming that follows through the booking process, information giving and arrival at a very welcoming accommodation. Everything in the cottage is of an excellent standard, especially the beds and bedding with the cottage being equipped with everything that you require. This was a lovely find that we can see ourselves returning to time and time again. Thanks Fiona for a lovely stay enabling us in having a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Cosy Cornish Cottage perfectly managed
• 5 of 5
Lovely, well maintained and equipped cottage just off the main area of Mevagissey.
All details and communications were excellent and accurate. The cottage was perfectly located and really cosy to spend time in with the fire roaring watching a movie or sat at the window reading and enjoying the harbour views. As per the details and other reviews it is a little winding walk up a path and then some steps, so make sure you pack in bags that you can carry easily up steps.
Mevagissey was a thriving community over the post Christmas and New Year period so we were able to shop in the village for all our needs and only went once to the supermarket in St Austell on the way back from the Eden project, which is a really lovely day out. Digby's sweet shop was a big hit with the kids!
The cottage was just as described and a really homely place to be so we ate in mostly as the kitchen was so well equipped. Thanks for the fry pan Fiona! we enjoyed christening it with sausages and shepherds pie!
Walked to Heligan from the door which has a lovely tea room and farm shop.
Also enjoyed the coastal walks from the doorstep, though had to reroute on some as fences had been put up across paths shown on the OS map.
Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek is a must for any seal or wildlife fan. About 30 miles drive taking 45 minutes.
Loved our stay, went way too fast! Hope to be back soon and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Christmas at Thimble Cottage
• 5 of 5
My husband and I spent a wonderful week in this very comfortable and stylish, seaside themed, three storey holiday home set above Mevagissey Harbour. A quick unload of luggage 200m from the cottage, and the car parked in a reserved bay on the edge of town, and we were set for Christmas. Fiona had been great at recommending restaurants and bars, and we enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch at The Salamander, and a few mulled wines and ciders throughout the week in the village pubs (particularly The Fountain!).
The walking is great (coastal path, as well as inland to the gardens at Heligan), as well as exploring further afield to Watergate Bay and St Ives.
A great base for exploring Cornwall!

The cottage looked great on the website and didn't disappoint. It's in a great location in Mevagissey with harbour views and within easy reach of all the lovely restaurants and shops. The cottage is really well equipped with everything you need. It's super clean and tidy. The weather was relatively mild for October. We didn't need the heating but did use the wood burner the odd night and that was enough to warm the place. Loved the direct access onto the coastal pathway and easy walk to lost gardens of heligan. Also good location for touring the nearby headlands and day trips to Newquay, watergate bay and padstow. its a wonderful cottage, perfect for a couple. Pack light as you have to offload your luggage and carry it up a hill but it didn't bother us at all. We'll be back!

Staying at Thimble Cottage was a complete joy.
• 5 of 5
This holiday stay at Thimble Cottage, just up the hill from the charming old Fountain Inn, was magical from the time we arrived to the day a week later when we reluctantly left Mevagissey to catch the train back to London.
The cottage itself is lovingly cared for, spotlessly spick and span, with gorgeous views down to the harbour. With two snug bedrooms at the top level; a comfortable lounge and sitting area at middle level and a brilliant kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor with all the comforts and amenities it was the holiday house you dream about finding but rarely do.
Fiona (the owner) was incredibly helpful and generous with her information and recommendations. There was a personal warmth conveyed by Fiona which really topped off the enjoyment of our stay. Close to all the attractions, shops, pubs and restaurants in charming Mevagissey - Thimble Cottage gave us the perfect Cornwall experience and made our long trek from Australia so very worthwhile.

Thimble Cottage is gorgeous. We spent Feast Week in Mevagissey this year and I searched for a cottage close to the harbour to act as our base. What luck; I found perfection. This squeaky clean cottage has been renovated with much empathy. It oozes with character. Fiona has poured her identity and talent into making Thimble Cottage one of the best cottages in Mevagissey. Convenient car parking included just a few minutes walk from the cottage.
Well equipped kitchen - everything provided, everything spotlessly clean.
Very comfy bed and great shower.
Cottage decorated in seaside theme which made it more special.
Top floor of the cottage has nice views over the harbour / sea to watch the fishing boats coming and going (binoculars even provided).
Fiona was extremely helpful making sure we had all the information we needed for a hassle free week away.

Fabulous Thimble Cottage
After staying in different parts of Cornwall, we decided to try Mevagissey and it didn't disappoint
We picked Thimble Cottage because of its location, and its historic charm.
We don't tend to book modern cottages as they just lack character.
The high lights were
amazing sea views from the top floor, superbly clean. lovely large shower that 3 of us could fit in.
Courtyard garden which we enjoyed a couple of bbqs as the weather was glorious,& used fresh fish bought from the fish kiosk in the harbour.
Very quite and it was refreshing not to have any cars, or indeed hear any traffic noise.
Although the weather was hot, it was chilly in the evening, so we lit the very efficient log burner and it warmed the whole house very quickly,
no need for the radiators to be on as well.
All the beds were very comfortable, especially the double, I would have like to have taken it home with me!
Thimble Cottage is exactly as described, and was even better on arrival, decorated in a beach coastal chic.
Booking, arriving, finding & parking was really easy, thanks to the owners organisation.
The guys at Willows car park were very helpful.
There were no negatives as it was very clear on the website that it is an historic, 200 year plus cottage, over 3 floors that could only be reached by foot.
so we packed light( family of 4) and used wheelie luggage, and still had plenty of stuff we didn't use! we bagged drop at the recommended place, wheeled the bags up 2 minswhile my husband went and parked the car.
Spoilt for choice for where to eat out.
Walked to Heligan from Thimble's front door, can recommend.
Coastal walking also from the front door, we didn't use the car for 3 days, heaven!
Also spent a day just mooching round the Harbour.
All in all a very enjoyable week, looking forward to going next year.
Thank you Thimble!

We had a really wonderful time at Thimble Cottage and in Mevagissey. Thimble was all we hoped it would be - a beautifully restored cottage, just the right size, a great view of the harbour, wood burning stove for cosy nights in - and Mevagissey was a totally new discovery for us. We loved that it is a very active working harbour and a thriving community. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming - and it has some great pubs! We even encountered the Mevagissey male voice choir singing at the Fountain after one of their rehearsals on Monday night and they were fantastic. We based ourselves in Mevagissey all week and barely got in the car - lovely walks out to Gorran Haven and vault beaches and other places. So all in all a pretty perfect way to spend Christmas - and we will be coming back!

We have stayed in Mevagissey many times, just love it. Great little shops, pubs and restaurants. Watching the fisherman coming in with their catch. Lots in the area to visit. Good walk to Lost Gardens of Heligan and along the cliff to Chapel Point and beyond. The cottage is lovely, nice decoration throughout, just perfect for sitting and relaxing and gazing out across the harbour from the bedrooms. Cosy evening's in with the log burner roaring away and a glass of wine. Also a great little area to sit outside in the summer. Parking was very easy and attendants so chatty and helpful. Cottage is well kept and clean, and well equipped, although a few of the kitchen utensils needed a bit of wash before use. Some basics there including washing up liquid, dishcloth, tea towel, toilet roll or two and tea, coffee and a pint of milk which was just what we needed after our drive down. Fiona, the owner responded quickly to my emails and was very helpful. I would definitely recommend Thimble to my friends and will hopefully be back myself next year.

we just loved this cottage, we felt like we were on holiday the moment we arrived! its beautifully decorated, with lovely quality furniture. Comfy beds, lots of hot water and super super clean.
Beautiful sea views with plenty of fishing boats to watch.
Mevagissey itself is enchanting, with its fish restaurants, and so much to do.
We walked from Thimble's front door straight to Heligan, just perfect in fact you can forget the car for a couple of days, there's plenty to do on right on doorstep. see you soon.

I would like to say that we had a fabulous week in Mevagissey and in particular in your beautiful cottage. The cottage was spot on and I loved the village with all the places to eat and drink etc...
The kids loved the local beaches and I am sure that we will return in the future. Thanks again for renting the cottage to us.
Tim, Rhiannon, Lucy & Harry.
Ps. The car park attendants were really helpful, they pointed out some great beaches. Good blokes.
