Overview
Description
A large and luxurious 17th-century thatched cottage sleeping eight, with four en-suite bedrooms, a generous private garden and a circular hot tub. Set in a quiet conservation area of Minehead’s little-known old town, Pilgrim Corner combines genuine historic character with space, comfort and high-quality modern living. Five Star Gold rated by VisitEngland.Pilgrim Corner is a light, beautifully furnished Tudor cottage that feels immediately welcoming and calm. Guests frequently describe it as somewhere genuinely special — ideal for family holidays, reunions, milestone birthdays and celebratory stays. “I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in such a lovely cottage.”
Living space
The large living room is warm and sociable, with a wood-burning stove, comfortable sofas and armchairs, and pretty window seats overlooking the Vicarage Road conservation area, with distant views towards Exmoor. It’s a space designed for time together — whether that’s relaxed evenings by the fire, family games, or unwinding after a day exploring Exmoor. There is a large HD TV with Netflix for cosy nights in. “A perfect setting for eight friends to come together and enjoy each other’s company.”
Bedrooms and bathrooms
Pilgrim Corner sleeps up to eight adults across four beautifully decorated en-suite bedrooms. Each room is furnished with Hypnos or hotel-standard mattresses, high-quality bedding, linens and towels, and is consistently praised for comfort and style. The layout works particularly well for mixed groups, couples travelling together and extended families. “The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and have very comfortable beds.”
Kitchen and dining
The well-equipped country-style kitchen is designed for proper cooking rather than holiday compromise, making it easy to cater for larger groups and shared meals. It includes a large dual-fuel range cooker, microwave, Nespresso Essenza Mini coffee machine, cafetière and a larder fridge.
In the adjacent utility room you’ll find a fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, along with practical storage space — particularly useful for longer stays or when using the hot tub. Guests regularly comment on how well-equipped and practical the cottage is for group stays. “Such a well-equipped cottage with everything we could possibly wish for.”
Garden and hot tub
One of Pilgrim Corner’s standout features is its large, private garden, which offers space to relax, dine outdoors, and enjoy the peaceful setting. At its heart is a circular hot tub with a dedicated changing room, perfect year-round — whether it’s summer evenings or crisp winter nights. “Winter in the hot tub was a delight.” “The garden is beautiful and so relaxing — it definitely has the wow factor.”
Location
Pilgrim Corner is set in Minehead’s old town conservation area — peaceful and tucked away, yet within easy walking distance of:
• Minehead town centre and its sandy beach
• Independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants
• Minehead station for the West Somerset Railway
Exmoor National Park, the South West Coast Path and dramatic coastal scenery are all a short drive away. Guests enjoy combining relaxed days at the cottage with walking, beach visits, steam railway journeys and trips to nearby villages and landmarks. “Its location allowed us to walk to and enjoy Minehead — a place that surprised us in the best way.”
Dog, child and walker friendly
Pilgrim Corner is child and dog-friendly, with space indoors and out to make travelling with dogs easy and comfortable. We provide dog baskets, blankets, towels, bowls and a welcome treat, and the garden is particularly appreciated by guests with pets. Walkers value the proximity to both coastal and moorland routes, as well as the opportunity to return to a warm, comfortable base at the end of the day. “Even the dog enjoyed exploring the garden!”
Celebrations and special occasions
Pilgrim Corner is especially well-suited to celebrations and memorable stays. Over the years we’ve helped guests mark anniversaries and birthdays, plan surprise romantic breaks, and organise proposals and even vow renewals. The combination of space, privacy, garden and hot tub makes it a wonderful setting for special moments shared with family and friends.
Quality and reassurance

Many guests return repeatedly, often describing it as their favourite place to stay. The owner has been welcoming guests to Exmoor for over 15 years, with a reputation for exceptional cleanliness, thoughtful hosting and attention to detail.
“This has been our fifth extended family holiday at Pilgrim Corner — it never disappoints.”

So well thought through, beautifully looked after and maintained
By Ben on 13-Jun-2026“We’ve had a great few days of family catch-up in glorious surroundings. Who knew Minehead had so much to offer. Thank you for all your work in the cottage and the garden, everything is so well thought through, beautifully looked after and maintained. We particularly like the garden – idyllic and peaceful surroundings.”
A great place to arrive on an 88th birthday (sorry, Nan!)
By Gill and Andrew Platt on 28-May-2026“Our first stay at Pilgrim Corner, although we've stayed many times at both The Old Sweet Shop and Stone Barn. All Lucy's usual comfort, style and full equipment, plus the garden. We've paid to look around gardens less fabulous than this! The view from the top patio is amazing. A great place to arrive on an 88th birthday – sorry, Nan! – and a fabulous week of weather. We've walked from the house onto North Hill, seeing ponies and buzzards. Other highlights included the coastal walk from Blue Anchor to Minehead and a favourite route from Lynmouth to Rockford via Watersmeet. We also enjoyed seeing the Waverley paddle steamer visiting Minehead Harbour. Great to catch up with Lucy and Gail, and to meet Bill and Phil. All being well, see you again in September.”
We had the most wonderful stay here
By The Alothaus family on 01-May-2026We had the most wonderful stay here at Vicarage Road. There was absolutely nothing missing, and the garden is amazing. The cherry on the cake was to see the Hobby Horse – so cool. Thank you so much.

What a brilliant family weekend away
By Philip and Isabel on 04-May-2026“Thank you for providing such a luxurious base from which to explore Somerset and a spacious, cosy retreat when the weather turned against us. We loved the fact that it was so immaculately specified, and everyone enjoyed the beautiful gardens. Thanks to all of your team who cleaned and replenished the cottage for us. Your efforts are appreciated. As for the area, we explored Dunster, its castle and grounds, watched the sunset from the quay, and peered through the mist at Dunkery Beacon before enjoying a pint in the Queen's Head. What a brilliant family weekend away.”
We had an amazing time at this beautiful cottage
By Tina Holt on 10-Apr-2026“We have had an amazing time staying at this beautiful cottage. We couldn’t have asked for anything more, the stunning garden, lovely hot tub and spacious rooms. It has really done us the world of good to spend this time together at such a lovely place. Thank you to Gail and Steve, especially for helping us during our stay and ensuring everything was perfect. Wishing you all the very best and every success!”
