Overview
Description
With sweeping views from almost every room, our much loved Rosemary Cottage is the last in a row of fishermen's cottages , and sits amongst National Trust land in historic Mortehoe.. Sleeping 5, enjoy the endless beautiful beaches and incredible surfing. Spot the occasional seal or sometimes dolphins on glorious walks along Morte Point, a few steps away. There are endless wonderful walks from the front door and the cottage looks over Morte Point, an area of rare coastal heathland filled with gorse, heather and wildflowers, as well as wandering sheep.
Mortehoe has two excellent food -serving pubs in the village, a few minutes walk away, as well as cream teas and a very good fish and chip shop.
Rosemary Cottage sleeps 5, in 3 bedrooms. The first bedroom (double or two singles) has an adjoining bathroom, with roll top bath. This room has glorious sea views, and the roof terrace leads out from this bedroom.( A perfect place for your evening aperitif!) the second bedroom is smaller with a double bed, and the third bedroom has a single bed and looks out over National Trust land with nothing but sheep and wildlife. There is also a separate shower room, loo and basin.
.The very well fitted kitchen, with dual gas/electricity cooker, ( in the winter months , also enjoy the warmth of the Aga-style Nobel cooker) leads through to a pretty "bistro-style" dining room. Usefully, there is a good sized old fashioned hatch between the two rooms. A French window leads to a small enclosed Courtyard ,and downstairs cloakroom.
Outside, the terrace has a large long table with benches, for outside al fresco eating with absolutely fabulous views to the sea!
On arrival at our PRIVATE PARKING space, you enter a gated garden along a pathway, with shallow graded steps up to the front door of Rosemary Cottage. We adjoin National Trust land, and look over across the sea, to Lundy Island.
There are so may wonderful beaches which are all very close to the cottage. Barricane beach, where from May onwards there is a pop-up cafe serving tea ,coffee, sandwiches and cake during the day, and the most wonderful Sri Lankan curry in the evenings Take a rug/chairs and a bottle of wine to the beach, watching the sunset with delicious food ( served on china plates!) while the children go rock pooling. .
Woolacombe Beach, named one of the best beaches in the world a few years ago, with its surf schools, ice cream and colourful beach huts.
Grunta Beach just a few minutes away, below the cottage, named after a cargo of pigs from a wrecked ship swam ashore here. A steep staircase down but full of rock pools and often deserted.
At the other end of the village is Rockham Beach, infamous for its smuggling history.
Croyde, Saunton Sands and many others are only a short drive away.
WOOLACOMBE has been crowned BEST BRITISH BEACH for two successive years,
Woolacombe is just down the hill from the village, with it's superb beach, and with many and varied eateries, food shop, and various beach and surfing outlets, selling all things "holiday".

Dog walks in our doorstep
By Maria R on 15-Jul-2024We had a wonderful time at Rosemary Cottage,it was perfect.Location and views plus dog walks in our doorstep were all perfect including Mortehoe itself. We will definitely be in touch to return. Thanks very much for a lovely stay. Just gorgeous.
Fabulous Time
By W. Hills on 25-Jul-2024I had THE most fabulous time at Rosemary Cottage. Honestly-I feel as though I have had a fortnight's holiday at least! It was absolutely perfect in every way! The weather was much better than forecast and we walked miles every day except one-when I got stuck in to a jigsaw I had brought with me! It was absolutely perfect! We met so many lovely people who live in Mortehoe too. I will definitely, definitely be asking you if I can book it again- and have recommended Rosemary Cottage to a few already! Properly perfect!
Welcome basket
By Dan D. on 30-Apr-2024We love it The Welcome Basket was lovely and the broadband is better than we get in the Cotswolds. I will be in touch in the summer to enquire of 2025 dates. Thank you Nony, we have many happy family memories of Rosemary Cottage
Happy Days
By Lynn H on 24-Oct-2015What a gorgeous cosy cottage with stunning views and equipped with all you need. So quiet and peaceful, the perfect place to chill out. The coastal walks are amazing and everywhere so dog friendly. We will certainly be returning.
Location, Loaction, Location.
By Paula P on 16-Jun-2016The cottage is perfectly positioned, still within the lovely village of Mortehoe, but close enough to Woolacombe beach to make it walkable(for the fit!). The cottage is much larger than it looks in the photos and nicely furnished. The beds are comfortable with clean, good quality linen provided. The kitchen/diner is a great size for everyone to congregate, eat and enjoy the warmth from the Aga style range cooker. Which, by the way, is such a bonus to find in a rental property. The views are genuinely amazing, we wore ourselves out taking photos of the sunsets and the sea. I spent lots of time just sitting on the baywindow seat looking out to sea. The owners are really helpful abd friendly, and dealt with requests promptly and efficiently. We have booked our next stay there already!
