Description

On the edge of Northumberland National & Dark Sky Parks, the Forge is perfect for an active or relaxing holiday (or a bit of both!). Our Coquetdale location is ideal for exploring Northumberland while at the same time being off the beaten path.

After a day of discovering the countryside, retreat to the Forge for a barbeque in the garden or sit in front of the wood ]burner while the kids play tennis. Garden, fine cotton bedding & views. We are happy to host 2 well-behaved dogs.

Our cottage has an open-plan living/kitchen/dining area, with a wood-burning stove and patio doors leading out into the back garden, which is dog-proof. Between the wood-burner, efficient central heating system, and underfloor heating in the bathrooms, the cottage is cosy all year round.

There is a small smart TV with Netflix.

The master bedroom is ensuite, with a shower room. The two smaller bedrooms share a bathroom and the beds can be made up as singles or kings. The shared bathroom and ensuite were refurbished in March 2024 and have thermostatic rainfall showers. The bedding is luxury hotel standard.

The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering and includes an espresso maker which takes original Nespresso-type pods and a dishwasher.

The cottage has front and back gardens with garden furniture and a Weber gas barbecue. There is a shared tennis court.

If you require baby equipment, please let us know.

Our changeover days are usually Mondays and Fridays, but we are flexible. There is a pet fee of £25.

Really such magical little corner of the world.

By Katherine on 16-Jun-2025

We had such a great stay at The Forge. Mary’s cottage was exactly as described and pictured. So clean and comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. Mary was so helpful to provide tips and recommendations on things to do and places to eat. We had the best time exploring the surrounding areas and could have stayed busy for days. Really such magical little corner of the world. We hope to come back someday.

Hope to be back again in the future

We had a wonderful weekend at the cottage, which was the perfect location and had everything we could possibly need for our stay. The cottage was beautifully decorated, the photos don't do it justice. Hope to be back again in the future xxx

Possibly the nicest holiday cottage we’ve ever stayed in!

Very comfortable, lovely furnishings and local art, wonderful bedrooms and bathrooms. The location is excellent - wonderfully placed for walks in Upper Coquetdale or days out to Rothbury, Cragside, and Alnwick. We are already wondering how soon we can return…

Fabulous week at Mary's gorgeous cottage.

Fabulous week at Mary's gorgeous cottage. Well equipped, comfy, super clean, amazing views and great location for both the coast (35 mins), hills and forests. Rothbury is 15 min drive and has everything you need, plus the National Trust Cragside which is our all time favourite NT place. The tennis court was also well enjoyed. We stayed with a 4 and 2 year old and there was plenty of outdoorsy things to do. Highly recommend The Drake Stone walk and Star Inn at Harbottle, plus Warkworth, Sugar Sands and Bamburgh beaches. We're already thinking about when we can come back! Thanks Mary :-)

We absolutely loved our stay here

We absolutely loved our stay here. The Forge was beautiful and it had everything we needed…It was a home away from home. Mary was great at providing information, so it made our experience smooth and relaxing. We will definitely be visiting again!
