Moonseeker is a traditional stone and cob shippon, spacious and full of character, recently converted with great care & attention to detail. The cottage sleeps up to 4 people in 2 ensuite bedrooms (one can be a twin) and is just 5 minutes drive from Dartmoor National Park & the market town of Okehampton. It is set in a secluded location, away from main roads, down an unmade farm track.

The front of Moonseeker looks over the colourful farmhouse garden and pond, which used to be the farmyard.
You will enjoy a high degree of privacy here as the cottage is not overlooked, nobody goes past it, and has its own fully enclosed and well screened back garden with table and chairs, decking and lawned area and a BBQ to take advantage of the sunny evenings. The garden backs onto a field where sheep and lambs may be grazing, and enjoys views to Dartmoor and some spectacular sunsets as it is South West facing.
This is a wonderful, central base for exploring Devon and Cornwall, with the coast under an hour away. The market town of Okehampton, with its spectacular castle ruins, is under 2 miles, and has all the facilities you need including a cinema, some independent shops, restaurants, pubs, vegan café and 3 supermarkets - Waitrose, Co-op and Lidl.

Very well behaved dogs & cats are welcome at £25 each, but please read the terms on our website before booking to make sure this property is suitable for your pet.

Children 8 years and over and babes in arms welcome.

The usual changeover day is Friday. Out-of-season short breaks are available and changeover can usually be any day of the week.

KITCHEN: Plenty of room for 4 people to sit around the farmhouse table, a range-style gas cooker with 2 ovens and 8 burners - no need to fight over who does the cooking as you can all join in! There is a dishwasher, fridge, separate freezer and washing machine, espresso coffee maker, microwave, toaster, stove top kettle and plenty of glasses, crockery & cutlery. The kitchen is handmade from brick and oak, with granite worksurfaces.

LOUNGE: In the lounge is a woodburner (first basket of logs supplied free) and leather armchairs and sofa. The large TV has a DVD player and if you want to play your favourite music there is a Pure Contour D1 digital radio with bluetooth connection for your favourite playlist.

Just inside the main entrance is a small downstairs cloakroom - in a slightly medieval style!

BEDROOMS: The cottage has 2 ensuite bedrooms upstairs, one with a 5ft king size bed, the other with a 6 ft SuperKing zip and link with topper to ensure you won't feel the zip down the middle, as this bed can be made into twin beds on request. Both ensuites have power showers and we supply hand towels and bath towels (1 each per person). The beds are good quality Hypnos and have underbed storage for luggage. Pillows are hollowfibre. Hairdryers are provided in both bedrooms - along with a torch in each dressing table. The bedrooms are separated from each other by a 'bridge'.

As well as a woodburner Moonseeker has underfloor heating throughout. WiFi, suitable for catching up with emails and browsing the internet, is also available throughout the cottage.

OUTSIDE: The garden is enclosed on all sides by fencing and a wall. This is a lovely place to sit under the sun umbrella at the table watching the wildlife and birds go by, or just sunset watch while someone takes charge of the BBQ. As there is often livestock in the field beyond the garden we ask guests who bring pets to be particularly vigilant in keeping their pets under control. To the front of the property is a small fenced area.

PARKING: There is under cover parking for 2 vehicles a short walk away from the cottage (you can park nearer for loading/unloading purposes). Particularly useful for keeping the car cool in hot weather and no need to de-ice it in the winter!

SPA STYLE TREATMENTS IN THE COTTAGE:
Whilst you are enjoying your holiday, you may wish to complete your rest and relaxation with a massage from our visiting therapist. These are very reasonably priced for an hours treatment and include Indian Head Massage, deep tissue massage, aromatherapy massage and facials. Enquire when booking.

HOW TO BOOK:
We have a secure link on our website, with an up to date pricing and availability calendar, so you can check availability for your dates.
The price of the cottage is fully inclusive of heating and hot water, towels and bed linen. The only extra is for pets, at £25 each and we provide bowls, towels and throws.
Payment is 40% deposit to secure your reservation, with the balance due 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. Our website contains full terms and conditions.

THINGS TO DO:
Dartmoor has many beautiful walks, through forests, trails or across open moor. We are close to part of the Tarka Trail, known as The Granite Way - good for walkers and cyclists.
Hire a bike from Granite Way Cycle Hire in Okehampton and cycle to Lydford for lunch, maybe explore Lydford Gorge and the Viking stone and Lydford Castle
Locally Okehampton Castle (English Heritage) is an interesting site to explore
Bring your National Trust membership card - we have many properties within easy reach including Castle Drogo, Finch Foundry & Killerton House
RHS Rosemoor is beautiful at any time of year and worth exploring, or near Christmas enjoy the lights and displays
Beautiful Beaches aplenty - we are perfectly located for enjoying the beaches of Devon and Cornwall, including Teignmouth, Torquay, Summerleaze & Sandymouth
Eating out - we have some excellent country pubs, full of character with roaring log fires in winter and pretty gardens in summer, serving very good food and ale

We look forward to being able to welcome you to Moonseeker - please get in touch if we can help with any questions.

Kind regards
Nicky

Moonseeker is peaceful and extremely quiet

By Martin on 06-Feb-2024

A truly wonderful week''s stay with my wife and pet Labrador in this fabulous cottage. Scrupulously clean and extremely well presented with high quality furnishings, fittings and equipment, absolutely everything (and more) provided for a comfortable stay. The location of Moonseeker is peaceful and extremely quiet, tucked out of the way along a short track so no road noise whatsoever but within reasonable driving distance to access everything that Dartmoor and surrounding areas have to offer. The cottage is very warm and cosy especially with the log burner and beautifully decorated rooms. The huge super king bed in one of the bedrooms was unbelievably comfortable and the large en-suite showers were perfect. The enclosed back garden provided a good safe area for our dog. Brilliant communication and comprehensive local information from Nicky, the host and owner, who lives nearby and was available at all times but respected our privacy. Highly recommended and would love to return.

Really enjoyed our time in Moonseeker despite the weather''s best efforts! We''ve stayed in many cottages around the UK and this is the best we have ever stayed in. Superclean, good quality fixtures and fittings - best cooker ever! Thank you, Nicky, for the wine, florentines and milk - all very welcome. We would love to visit again in the future - thank you!
