Description

Tucked away in a secluded valley just 3 miles from the impressive North Coast this charming one bedroom cottage, just right for couples, will give a peaceful country base to any holiday in Cornwall. Formed from a detached single storied centuries old stone barn, Skyber cottage gives all the present comforts of modern country living to your stay.

In contrast to modern agriculture we try to manage our farm as traditionally as practical, keeping the layout of hedgerows and small fields as they have been for hundreds of years, maintaining the thickets and trees along the river, encouraging our great diversity of wildlife. This has resulted in a sense of timelessness, the peaceful countryside as we remember of old.

With only two other cottages on our out-of-the-way small organic farm which dates back to medieval times you can be sure of a peaceful relaxing stay.

Skyber is all on one level with a low step on entry and has:

Cosy Living Room with old stone walls and a mellow pine ceiling and slate slab floor.

Comfortable high backed wing chairs. Dining table and chairs.

Feature oak fireplace with electric ‘wood burner’ stove.

Freeview TV with DVD player. Wi-Fi.

Fully equipped kitchen – Fridge-Freezer, electric hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee making facilities and all the other pots & pans you could need.

Bathroom with walk-in thermostatic shower, vanity-top basin, WC.

The bedroom with pocket sprung double bed and feather & down duvets.

A useful entrance porch. Oil fired central heating for the cooler times of the year.

An enclosed private garden, paved patio area with outside dining furniture.

Standard rental is from Friday to Friday. Week-end and Midweek breaks are available – Please see our website for more details.

Pastoral bliss

By Wendy J on 23-Jun-2023

Loved our stay at Stables cottage the accomodation was characterful spotless cosy and welcoming with the most luxurious goosedown bedding which ensured a dreamy night''''''''s sleep. Old Newham Farm is a wonderful antidote to the stresses of modern day living completely relaxing so peaceful yet less than a minutes drive to the A39 where you can access a myriad of stunning locations, just perfect. Chris and Mary were kind and generous hosts sharing with us some local beauty spots off the beaten track and Mary''''''''s homemade scones with the obligatory jam and cream were most appreciated after a long drive. I would have no hesitation in recommending this quiet rural idyllic place just book it you will not be disappointed!!!

A comfortable base for a holiday

We had an enjoyable week staying in Skyber cottage, which provides cosy accommodation for two people. The cottage is well equipped and nicely furnished with good quality bedding and towels and a warm duvet. There is a good shower with modern plumbing which provides lots of hot water. Chris and Mary are very welcoming. There are a couple of cattle close to the cottage in the barn, and stables with a number of horses. There’s also a pair of pygmy goats, one of which is quite inquisitive and followed me down the drive as I went for a walk one evening, until I led him back! A walk down the track beyond the farm leads over a stream and then over the river, and on past a field in which there is a pond, where I saw a kingfisher. There were buzzards circling overhead and a family of pied wagtails flying across the field. The hedge surrounding the cottage garden was very pretty with flowering dog roses and alive with families of house sparrows. The farm is situated on a quiet country lane, which becomes a track just after the turn into the farm drive, so there isn’t any passing traffic to disturb sleep, nor any bright light! Although Old Newham Farm is half a mile from a main road, it is just off the A39, known as the “Atlantic Highway” which gives good connections to other parts of Cornwall. Within a few minutes drive on the A39 is the Old Wainhouse Inn, which provides good food. It is a spectacular part of the country, with lots of interest, and in my opinion Old Newham Farm represents an excellent quiet location for touring the northern and central parts of Cornwall.
