Great cottage close to dog friendly beach

By Amanda Cheadle on 20-Jul-2020

A spacious, comfortable, well-equipped cottage in perfect proximity to the beach. We stayed with our adult children and dogs. Walkies on the beach were great. Appreciated the neighbouring convenience store and great chippy. Short drive to criccieth, where we saw porpoises - a highlight of our trip. As was the take away from the nearby smokehouse. Great views from the front, and a quiet road. Recommend it.

Great property in a perfect location

By Debbie on 31-Jul-2019

We have just returned from a wonderful week in sunny Wales! Your property was perfect for us with a 5 year old and a dog the spacious rooms and comfortable accommodation was great. The rooms provided more space than we expected as well as being clean and practical. The fabulous beach area was just a short walk away (or you could take the car on for a small charge), with a convenience store nearby and a lot of local attractions to keep us entertained our only criticism is that a week wasn't long enough! Thank you to Alan as well for being so prompt at replying to any initial queries, very helpful, I am sure we will be coming back again

Managed to get a much needed 3 nights at Gest Oren. The old chapel is well equipped with everything you need. Take your own towels and a bath mat. Close to the beach and overlooking the golf course which is also nice to walk around in the evening. The chip shop is close by and is lovely also close to a shop for anything you need. We found the food at tafarn Glanaber very good and reasonable. A tip for you is put a couple of £ in the meter and see how you get on, I put £15 and left with over £9 when leaving. We will stay again and enjoyed our break away in Morfa Bychan.

Lovely break inbetween Christmas & New Year. Visited Morfa Bycham, Criccieth, Black rock sands, Porthmadog & Borth y gest & had lots of lovely daily beach walks. Would recommend as a great location. The shop owner even opened the shop up for us because we didn't know the opening times! Perfect set up for our group. Happy New year!

We had a 4 day break in North Wales at the end of September and chose Gest Oren for its location and being "dog friendly". The cottage was immaculate, cosy, comfortable and with all the amenities we needed. The photos really don't do it justice, the cottage exceeded our expectations in every way. Alan the owner was very helpful in providing all the information we needed for our stay and suggested walks, pubs, restaurants nearby. With a fish & chip shop and convenience store 100m from the door, and a 15 minute walk down to the beach, 5 miles to Criccieth, 2 miles to Porthmadog by car (also possible to walk via the coastal path to both). Although the weather was changeable we managed Snowdon and lots of lovely walks; plenty of dog-friendly cafes and pubs in the area to head to. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit the area :-)

This was a great place to stay. Just outside of Porthmadog, a five minute walk to the beach and just a few miles to Portmeirion. The converted chapel was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities needed. The two bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. Had a great stay!

Lovely cottage with great views. Everything we needed was provided. Close to a convenience shop and chippy. Lovely beaches a short walk away and lots of interesting places to visit a short drive away. Owner very helpful. One of the sofas could do with replacing / recovering but this may well have been done by now.

Third year running staying in this wonderful cottage. I cannot praise it enough and already starting to look at dates for next year. If you are considering a holiday in this spectacular part of North Wales look no further (well, unless you are thinking of the middle of next June because I will probably want it then!!!). Incidentally it now has more than 1 bottle opener..because I brought back the one I accidentally took home last year!

8 minutes from Portmadoc 3 minutes further on road to vast Black Rock Sands. This is a great location for travelling north to Snowdonia or South to Harlech and Barmouth. The converted chapel is spacious, quality finish to decor, comfy beds and plenty of useful cupboards. Although there is adequate parking with a picnic table there is no ‘garden’ for children. One great option is to rent the adjoining house next door as well if two families what to holiday together. Close by is a chippy and convenience store but large supermarkets coffee shops and steam trains run from Portmadoc. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Stayed here at end of July and was made up with the place, ideally situated in morfa bychan , very clean place, everything u need for your stay . The beach is just a small walk down a lane which me and the dog did every morning. Alan was very helpful with anything what we needed ! The only thing wrong is the bench out front needs replacing but apart from that I would recommend this little gem of a chapel to anyone

The location is right by our favorite beach black rock so that was a good start. It's lovely from the outside just as nice on the inside. The windows upstairs are a great feature. Parking is good plenty of space. All you need is in the house. It's like a home away from home. Kids settled there straight away. The views are beautiful out the front. Many times we caught the kids sat in our room watching the golf. The shops are local all very handy and a Tesco's just up the road also Aldi and Lidl. Habour not far for a nice evening walk. Would definitely stay again.

The location is perfect with a beach close by and easy reach of two towns. We also visited Portmeirion , which was fascinating and Snowden which was stunning. All in all, it was a most enjoyable stay, may well go again.

Absolutely fabulous! The beautifully converted Chapel had everything you could need for your stay.

By Sadie on 30-Jun-2017

All rooms were clean, modern and very generous in size, the photos do not do the Chapel justice. From a practical point of view the accommodation was excellent. With wooden flooring downstairs, no worries about bringing the beach home on your clothes, shoes & doggie paws! Full size fridge/ freezer, washing machine & drying room makes it easier when on holiday with teenage boys! The boys went quad biking at "Madog Bikes" in Portmadog which was the highlight of their week. It looked so much fun my Sister & I are going to give it a go next time. We also went to the pub down the road. The staff were really friendly & helpful. The food was good value, tasty with huge portions. Added bonus they have pool tables & dart boards, again great for teenagers. The Chapel & the area is a great place to unwind & recharge your batteries. I will be highly recommending to my friends. Plus with out a doubt we will be back next year, my son really didn't want to leave. Thank you Alan for having an amazing Chapel which you let out at affordable prices. Our first family holiday in years was made very special with lasting memories x

Excellent pet friendly accommodation

We have just returned from our 6th visit to Gest Oren and enjoyed it as much as our 1st visit. All the facilities are good and it is just a short walk to the beach at Blackrock sands. There is a well stocked Spar convenience store just a couple of hundred metres up the road which is handy also a small fish & chip shop which we can recommend. The rear garden is south facing so gets the sun all day long, which means you can enjoy your morning paper with a coffee sitting in the sunshine and later in the day a nice cold drink as you watch the sun go down. One thing that I would suggest is take a couple of camping chairs / deckchairs as the picnic benches can be a little uncomfortable if you are sitting at them for any length of time.

Fantastic location for beautiful beach

By Karen on 12-Apr-2017

The house is very functional, contains everything you need for home from home, even dog bowls and a dog crate! The home is spacious we had 4 adults and one child in our group and it was very comfortable. Take a few coat hangers, there is a handy devise for hanging clothes in the smaller bedroom, coat hangers provided in wardrobe in double room are not moveable. Beds very comfortable, great nights sleep! Extra duvet and blanket available. Superb location quick walk to beach, lovely quiet area. The owners of the property very attentive and accommodating, great communication, Alan offered us early access and a later leaving time, which we have never had before. So a good family feel. We would stay here again and rent the joining house for our whole family group.

This is the second time we have stayed at this cottage in February. The cottage is dog friendly and Alan, the owner, is extremely helpful. It is a short drive to the beach, Black Rock Sands, in one direction or a walk in the other. It makes an excellent base with Snowdon about half an hour away driving through stunning landscapes. Black Rock Llama trekking centre is a short walk away. The cottage is well equipped and clean. It's been fabulous.

clean, roomy and good facilities

By Chloe on 29-Apr-2016

We have just come back from a holiday at Gest Melyn. Everything was clean and as explained on arrival. All the facilities worked well. We had an issue with the shower and within a couple of hours somebody was down to fit a new one for us. The location is perfect with easy distance from the beach without being near the hussle and bussle of the beach. A great amount of space and beds available to sleep in and a good range of kitchen facilities and utensils. Would definitely go back again. Thanks for a great holiday. X

Wonderful stay!

By Katie on 28-Mar-2016

My friend and I stayed at the cottage for 3 nights over the Easter weekend with our 3 boys aged 7-9. Prior to our arrival Alan was extremely helpful and was happy to answer any questions I had. Firstly, the cottage is well renovated and spacious. The downstairs is open plan with 2 sofas, a tv, a dining table and a well equipped kitchen. Upstairs was a large double bedroom, a second bedroom with 3 single beds and a bathroom. There were games and books, and even things like tea towels were supplied- the little things make a difference! The electricity meter uses £1 & £2 coins, and given we had a cold weekend I was worried we'd spend a fortune keeping the cottage heated but actually the heaters were really effective so had nothing to worry about - I think we'd spent £23 over the weekend which we both thought was reasonable. Secondly it is in a fantastic location, just minutes from the centre of Porthmadog where there are lots of shops including supermarkets, there is a spar to the right, and a small park to the left both within a minutes walk. Directly by the cottage is beach road that leads to the beach which was lovely and clean - within 10 mins walk I would say but you can drive onto it. Halfway down the road is a pub, which wasn't much to look at and was a bit dated but the food was good - huge portions and reasonably priced. There is a haven site nearby which you can buy a day pass for but was full for the weekend so you'd probably need to book in advance. There are lots of activities in the area - we used the local leisure centre which was 10 mins from the cottage. Then we went quad biking (15 mins from cottage) which was so much fun! Also took a drive to Canaerfon castle, and into the Menai straits where we had a rib ride - another fantastic experience I highly recommend! Overall we had a brilliant weekend, couldn't fault the accommodation especially for the price we paid, and will definitely recommend to friends!
