Great week in November
By Stefan, Germany on 11-Nov-2025We stayed for a bit more than a week in Duncan's cottage and it was really great. We are traveling a lot and this was *really* one of the nicest holiday homes we have visited. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped - and the views are even better than on the fotos. Portmahomack is also really nice in autumn and there is plenty to do and see in the area: long walks / runs to the lighthouse at the end to the peninsula, visit the Tarbat discovery center (they also open in November on request). Although Portmahomack seems a bit isolated it is quite "self-contained" and cafe, pub, shop are all there, really nice and also open out of season. If you looking for a place in the highlands close to the see - look no further: We can highly recommend it!
Wonderful Cottage
By Keely, Scotland on 29-Dec-2024Just returned from this wonderful cottage . I couldn’t fault it , we have had the most amazing Christmas in a home from home. I’ve cooked the most important meal of the year in the kitchen and it had everything I could have needed and it was all spotlessly clean . The views from the house are amazing . We loved the walks to Roy’s Bay as it was so remote and beautiful. Thank you so much and we will be back
Delighted
By Nicholas, US on 25-Mar-2025We are delighted to have had the opportunity to stay. The property was meticulously maintained and contemporary in its design. The attention to detail and thoroughness evident in the home and logistical process are commendable. The colourful sunset as well as the mountains provided a stunning backdrop for our stay. On a clear day you can see the Dornoch Bridge and a wee bit of the mountain range north of Ben Wyvis.
Enjoyabale and peaceful
By John-Paul, Scotland on 26-Mar-2025Had a very enjoyable and peaceful few days at sunset view cottage. Will definitely be back.
5* Place
By Lizzie, London on 31-May-20255* place, don’t miss out if you get the chance to stay here! The cottage was fantastic, a real home from home and immaculately clean. We had everything we needed, full kitchen, comfortable beds and good bedding, and so spacious everywhere. Great to have option of utility room too. But then you see the view! WOW, utterly beautiful and breathtaking….. sitting outside with a glass of wine or a cuppa and just watching the sea /weather… the hills/mountains in the background… we got some great sunsets and the peace and calm of this place was enviable. Sadly no dolphins spotted this time for us! Duncan was a fab host, giving so much info on the house, local area and places to visit further away… I’d definitely suggest a walk/drive to the lighthouse in Portmahomack late afternoon and sit on the rocks for a while.. feels like you’re on the top of the world! We left calm and happy and feeling very well looked after, thank you Duncan and Susan! We’d love to come back!
Lovely Views
By Julie, US on 10-Jul-2025Duncan's cottage had such lovely views. Even on the rare rainy day, we could sit on the sofa indoors and enjoy the sea views. The garden felt so private with the plantings arranged in such a way that the we couldn't see much of the neighbors. The indoors was very clean and plenty spacious for 4 adults. If extra privacy was desired, we could go upstairs and read in the little sitting area while still enjoying the views. Our family enjoyed walks on the beach and playing board games from the well-stocked cabinet in the lounge. Duncan communicated well and arranged service on the washer and dryer when we alerted him that they weren't working properly. Our family has already started talking about the possibility of returning next summer!
