Description

Dating back over 100 years, The Barn is a characterful conversion that was renovated in 2012 to provide a comfortable and modern holiday home which is also DOG Friendly. It is located next to the owner's house but has its own entrance and enclosed patio garden. It is situated in the village of Puncknowle, pronounced Punnel, a charming village of stone cottages surrounded by the beautiful Bride Valley on one side and a downland ridge on the other that shelters the village from the sea.
The Barn is a great location for couples or small families wishing to experience the charm of the countryside but also being close to the amenities that the Jurassic coastline has to offer. The coast is about a mile away where you can explore the spectacular Chesil beach and Jurassic coast - the perfect location for beachcombing, fishing or just enjoying the spectacular views.
The ground floor offers a well-equipped kitchen where you can put together your next delicious meal. Come through to the lounge/diner and curl up after a busy day on the sofa in front of the TV. Upstairs are two comfortable double bedrooms. Relax outside in the evening air with a refreshing drink on the patio. The patio is surrounded by a high wall so you can relax knowing that all children and/or dogs can be contained safely. The Crown is the nearest pub and is around a three-minute walk. It is a traditional thatched pub with an inglenook fireplace to cosy up to in the winter whilst a spacious garden with wonderful views across the Bride valley is the perfect place to enjoy your drink in the summer. Providing meals and a variety of beverages including local beer, it could be the ideal place for a night off from cooking.
The market town of Bridport is only 5 miles away. It is one of the few market towns that has independent butchers, bakers and green grocers as well as many independent cafes and restaurants. There is a very popular street market every Saturday and Wednesday which hosts a wide variety of local produce as well as bric a brac and antiques.
Abbotsbury, a beautiful village with mainly thatched cottages, is under 5 miles away and has much to offer with its sub-tropical gardens and the Swannery bird reserve - it hosts the only swans in the country that are not owned by the Queen. Weymouth with its Georgian seafront, old harbour and sandy beach is a lazy drive along the coast road through picture postcard villages and breath-taking scenery to the East.
The Barn is the ideal base to explore the many options Dorset presents to guests either exploring the countryside and beaches by walking from the cottage or alternatively driving a short distance to explore further afield.

Lovely welcoming cottage

By Richard Barton on 15-Nov-2023

We had a really enjoyable four days in the Barn. Sue and Steve were extremely welcoming hosts - the scones and clotted cream were delicious. They were always available to answer any queries we had without being in any way intrusive. The Barn was warm and comfortable and well equipped with everything you would need. The local area is very interesting - lots of good walks although the field footpaths were something of a quagmire when we were there. Chesil beach is in easy reach as is the lovely town of Bridport. There are plenty of other interesting places to visit in that part of Dorset. The village pub is a five minute stroll and serves good pub food. All in all we would thoroughly recommend the Barn.

Thank you so much for taking the time the write a review. We're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us despite the weather which was challenging at times to say the least. Thank you also for leaving The Barn so clean and tidy and it was an added bonus that you stripped the bed. Thank you. Hopefully, we will be able to welcome you to The Barn again one day.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location

By June and Paul- returning visitors on 16-Sep-2023

We have stayed at The Barn on 2 previous occasions and were delighted to find it on the Simply Owners website. It is comfortable, spacious and well equipped and in a beautiful location - close to both lovely countryside and the spectacular Jurassic Coast. It also has a lovely outdoor space for the warmer weather. Sue and Steve were very welcoming and helpful.

Lovely place in a great location

By Kim Hargreaves on 08-Sep-2023

Just had a brilliant week. The cottage had everything you need for a week away and was spotlessly clean. It’s in a great location for sightseeing with Abbotsbury, Bridport and Weymouth all within a few miles. The owners live next door and were there if needed but not in your face. Sue even took in our online shop when it arrived before us. They have 4 of their own dogs so understand what it’s like to be on holiday with dogs . Would highly recommend if in the area.

Thank you so much for your review. It was lovely to meet you both and Minnie of course. Thank you so much for leaving The Barn spotlessly clean and tidy and I really appreciate you stripping the bed for me.
