Description

Dating back over 100 years, The Barn is a characterful conversion that was renovated in 2012 to provide a comfortable and modern holiday home which is also DOG Friendly. It is located next to the owner's house but has its own entrance and enclosed patio garden. It is situated in the village of Puncknowle, pronounced Punnel, a charming village of stone cottages surrounded by the beautiful Bride Valley on one side and a downland ridge on the other that shelters the village from the sea.
The Barn is a great location for couples or small families wishing to experience the charm of the countryside but also being close to the amenities that the Jurassic coastline has to offer. The coast is about a mile away where you can explore the spectacular Chesil beach and Jurassic coast - the perfect location for beachcombing, fishing or just enjoying the spectacular views.
The ground floor offers a well-equipped kitchen where you can put together your next delicious meal. Come through to the lounge/diner and curl up after a busy day on the sofa in front of the TV. Upstairs are two comfortable double bedrooms. Relax outside in the evening air with a refreshing drink on the patio. The patio is surrounded by a high wall so you can relax knowing that all children and/or dogs can be contained safely. The Crown is the nearest pub and is around a three-minute walk. It is a traditional thatched pub with an inglenook fireplace to cosy up to in the winter whilst a spacious garden with wonderful views across the Bride valley is the perfect place to enjoy your drink in the summer. Providing meals and a variety of beverages including local beer, it could be the ideal place for a night off from cooking.
The market town of Bridport is only 5 miles away. It is one of the few market towns that has independent butchers, bakers and green grocers as well as many independent cafes and restaurants. There is a very popular street market every Saturday and Wednesday which hosts a wide variety of local produce as well as bric a brac and antiques.
Abbotsbury, a beautiful village with mainly thatched cottages, is under 5 miles away and has much to offer with its sub-tropical gardens and the Swannery bird reserve - it hosts the only swans in the country that are not owned by the Queen. Weymouth with its Georgian seafront, old harbour and sandy beach is a lazy drive along the coast road through picture postcard villages and breath-taking scenery to the East.
The Barn it is the ideal base to explore the many options Dorset presents to guests either exploring the countryside and beaches by walking from the cottage or alternatively driving a short distance to explore further afield.

By Alistair on 26-Aug-2022

A beautifully converted and well equipped barn and location made for a fab stay in Dorset. Loved the barn and (the fact it’s dog friendly) spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. An added bonus of a lovely village pub 2 min walk away, a great friendly welcome from Sue and Steve nothing was too much trouble. I’d recommend the Barn and will definitely be back to stay!
