Description

Nestled within the grounds of Plas Cilybebyll Manor house, between the folly and the walled garden, is this two-bedroom historic holiday cottage known as "Yr Hen Ysgol" or the Old School House. With its own expansive lawn and a picturesque setting alongside the River Clydach, this charming cottage provides a tranquil retreat. Relax in the sunny orangery, and the babbling stream becomes your background music. The spacious environment is also pet-friendly, ensuring your furry friend enjoys the space.

Formerly a school for servants and children of the estate, complete with a bakery downstairs, this traditional country cottage now offers the warmth and coziness of a Rayburn cooker and wood-burning stove. The accommodation includes one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, equipped with HDTV and free WiFi, providing all the comforts of home in a serene country setting.

Historic Holiday Cottage

The building, referred to as the 'School Building,' served as the church Sunday School in the early 20th Century. Earned from its association, the children received a treat of milk and freshly baked cake, typically victoria sponge, after each session. The reputation of these luxuries even drew children from other parishes. Additionally, the estate's children were taught in an upstairs room. The ground floor once operated as a bakery, and a high wall was erected to prevent servants from looking out into the garden. The building also served as a sewing room and was where the renowned opera singer Madame Adelina Patti had many of her dresses made. At the time, she was the highest-paid performer globally.

This cottage, with its rich history and situated amid over a hundred acres of private grounds, offers an idyllic holiday destination steeped in character and charm.
