Description

This contemporary and luxurious family holiday cottage, known as Ty Gambo, is uniquely designed with an 'upside-down' layout featuring three bedrooms downstairs and an open-plan living area and kitchen upstairs. Originally an estate cart house, Ty Gambo, meaning 'house of the cart' in Welsh, has been transformed by award-winning Rio Architects into a perfect blend of modern minimalism and historical charm. Guests appreciate the fusion of modern elements with its rich history, including a fascinating stone-built magic tree embedded in one of the walls.

The cottage exudes warmth and comfort, powered by renewable biomass heating and insulated with natural sheep's wool—fitting for its past life as a shearing shed. The spacious master bedroom offers views of the old farmyard and rustic buildings, complemented by modern furnishings and an exposed blue pennant sandstone wall. A contemporary wet room with a standalone bath, waterfall tap, and rainfall shower separates two additional bedrooms, creating a tranquil haven.

Upstairs, the open-plan layout features a large kitchen with seating for six, leading into a spacious living area with comfortable seating, woodland views, and an HDTV with Freesat. A reading chair positioned in front of the roof-to-floor window provides a perfect spot to relax and observe farm activities. Guests can explore our comprehensive information folder, showcasing suggestions for places to visit and activities to enjoy. An upstairs WC adds convenience, and the kitchen provides views of a unique 19th-century ramshackle concrete outbuilding, Grade 2 listed for its architectural significance.

Ty Gambo boasts a private sitting and parking area at the rear, where the enchanted stone tree stands next to the BBQ. The cottage seamlessly combines modern style and amenities with the historic ambiance of the ancient estate to which it belongs.

Featuring Welsh-themed artwork by prominent artists, the cottage showcases a display coffee table filled with centuries-old artifacts and curiosities discovered by metal detectorists at the farm. An intriguing raven button, linked to a Welsh Prince from medieval tales, is highlighted, with an art print by renowned Lord of the Rings illustrator Alan Lee hanging in the living area.

Guests at Ty Gambo have access to over a hundred acres of private grounds, including the Plas Farm Trail starting at the cottage doorstep, leading along the picturesque River Clydach and into a private bluebell woodland.

This self-catering holiday cottage offers a peaceful secluded location with modern amenities conveniently close by. A 24-hour supermarket in the town of Pontardawe, just over a mile away, and a nearby gastro pub in Alltwen provide convenience. The city of Swansea is 10 miles down the valley, and despite being just 10 minutes away from the M4 motorway to London, the cottage maintains a tranquil atmosphere.
