BLUEBELL COTTAGE. Just the place to get away and relax. In an elevated position and at the end of a long drive there is no passing traffic and the quietness is remarkable. Formerly a derelict concrete-block stable it has been rebuilt with local natural hamstone and stable-style doors with comfort and convenience as priorities. The king-size bedroom with TV is cosy and relaxing, the bathroom has both bath and shower cubicle, the kitchen-diner is fully equipped whilst the lounge has TV and patio doors. Oil-fired under-floor central heating throughout ensures warmth year-round and an electric fire in the lounge can be used if necessary and provides a cosy glow. Outside a small patio area has seating and overlooks open countryside. There is plenty of space to park and guests are welcome to wander around the site.

HONEYWOOD. Once a cart-horse stable for Montacute House, the property has been converted over the past 25 years by the owners, Roland and Marlene, to furnish an unusual residence in a wonderful location. Christmas Trees, bee-keeping, and logs are the occupations undertaken on this six-acre smallholding.

SURROUNDING AREA. The immediate location is dominated by Ham Hill, an ancient iron-age hill-fort, now a country park with 120 acres of open access and the Prince of Wales pub. Nestled around the hill are villages, including Odcombe, all with churches, most with pubs and some with shops. One of these villages, Montacute, is home to the National Trust’s Montacute House, a stately home with gardens, grounds and park. Somerset and Dorset are laced with footpaths, trackways, bridle-paths and green lanes. At the end of the driveway you can join the Pitt Lane bridleway and from there walk to your hearts content.

YEOVIL. The outskirts of Yeovil are 2 miles away where Asda, Palmers Garden Centre, café and fish-and-chip restaurant are located as well as KFC, Subway and other stores on a small trading estate. The centre of Yeovil is 4 miles away and provides the full range of facilities of a market town, including a golf-club, theatre and swimming pool, as well as open areas such as Nine-Springs Country Park.

SOUTH SOMERSET. Meandering through the lanes and villages is a good antidote to stress! There are gardens, stately homes and tourist attractions such as the Naval Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton. Discoversouthsomerset.com and visitsomerset.co.uk can provide full details of events and activities.

WEST COUNTRY. One of the beauties of this location is that it is central to Dorset, Somerset and parts of Devon and Hampshire, all within comfortable day-trip undertaking. The villages and countryside of West Dorset, the Jurassic Coast with seaside destinations such as Weymouth and Lyme Regis, and attractive towns such as Dorchester provide a wide choice. Cranborne Chase, Marshwood Vale and the AONB around Beaminster have distinct and impressive scenery. To the north Minehead, Quantoxhead, Weston-super-Mare and Burnham give a different seaside experience and Cheddar, Wookey Hole and the Mendips are absorbing. Wells, with it’s cathedral, the Somerset Levels, and Glastonbury will not fail to impress the visitor. Not far away are Exmoor and Dartmoor and a day in Exeter is very rewarding – you can travel there by train – or go in the opposite direction to Salisbury.

So whether you want to put your feet up and read a book, wear out a pair of walking shoes, or tour the around the West Country, Bluebell Cottage is the place for your holiday!

Lovely Cottage, beautiful views

By Karen & Keith on 05-Dec-2020

We originally booked to stay at Bluebell Cottage just prior to the second lockdown, therefore, it had to be cancelled. Roland immediately refunded us without being asked. We then booked again to go on 5th Dec for a week.
We were not disappointed. The cottage was immaculate, and very comfortable with everything one could need. On arrival we were left local honey, jam, chutney, cheese and milk, which was a nice surprise and unexpected. The cottage is in a quiet location, with lovely views and walks. There are two pubs within about 20mins walk, one in Odcombe and the other in Montecute, where Montecute House and gardens (NT) are - also walkable. We can recommend both pubs. Roland & Marlene were very friendly and on hand if you needed anything. We are already looking forward to our next visit, hopefully in the Spring.

Autumn stay at Bluebell Cottage

By Dugald Sandeman on 02-Nov-2020

Bluebell Cottage was the perfect place for us to stay for a walking week just as lockdown was about to start again. The cottage is very comfortable and well appointed and is a great hideaway for a couple. The site is magnificent with great views and Ham Hill very close. We thought what it would be like on a hot July evening and decided it would be wonderful. Our two hosts were delightful and friendly. Altogether a great find.

Exceptional cottage in peaceful location

By Rose & Gareth Pritchard on 16-Oct-2020

We have just returned from a 3 night short break at Bluebell Cottage and have throughly enjoyed ourselves. The cottage is immaculate, comfortable and there’s everything that you could wish for. The owners were lovely and available if we needed them.
Excellent walking from the cottage, no need to take the car out but there are also a number of National Trust properties close by and the coast is approximately 15 miles. We haven’t been away from home since before lockdown so we’re understandably a little apprehensive in general, but there was no need to be. Bluebell Cottage is spotlessly clean and everything is in order for a holiday in the “new normal”. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and hope to do so fairly soon.

Comment: Spotless and clean, everything we wanted or needed and lovely outlook. Nice welcome pack of local food items, much appreciated. We spent a lot of time just watching the birds on the feeders so were quite lazy. Close to places we wanted to visit. Overall 10 out of 10.

Beautiful Cottage in a peaceful location

By Pete And Hilary on 17-Jul-2020

Bluebell Cottage is spacious, well equipped and in a lovely countryside setting.
This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in, the location is great for walking, visiting National Trust's and the coast.
The weather was kind to us and we were able to sit out mornings and evening on the private south facing patio, looking at the countryside views, listening to the horses and watching a variety of birds, so peaceful and relaxing.
The owners Marlene and Roland made us feel very welcome but were not invasive.
Thank you to them both making our stay so enjoyable.
Will definitely go back again.

First class cottage.

By Hazel And Derek Domakin on 03-Jul-2020

The cottage was very clean, well presented, comfortable and has all the equipment you could want.
All the fitting have been well thought out with attention to detail. We have taken self catering holidays for over 40 years and this is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in.
It is situated in a lovely area with lots of places to go visit.
We would definitely recommend anyone to stay there, we enjoyed staying there so much that we have booked again for next year.

Excellent accommodation

By Mr Peter Chegwidden on 06-Mar-2020

The online photos and description really do this cottage justice. Excellent accommodation, light, airy, spacious and superb location. Good walks right from the doorstep plus all around expansive Ham Hill. The one thing we took on holiday we used least was the car! Covered barely 50 miles all week. A lovely quiet spot amidst lovely scenery.

Amazing hilltop position.

By Mr David L Grove on 25-Oct-2019

The cottage is spacious, clean and very comfortable. It is set in an amazing hilltop position with wonderful views in all directions. We only saw the owners once but they were extremely helpful and friendly. The only slight downside is that the last bit of the approach is along a very narrow lane.

Beautiful cottage and breath taking views

By Mrs Jean Johnson on 27-Sep-2019

We could not fault this beautiful well thought out cottage. Every thing was top class. The owners were lovely people around if you wanted them but not in your face . The welcome pack was all locally soused . Beautiful cottage and breath taking views

Comfortable, quiet and warm.

By Mr Geoff Loates on 20-Sep-2019

An excellent, comfortable, quiet property which we would recommend to anyone. Just one small niggle - the property was often too warm (heating hard to control) and it was wasteful to constantly open windows.

5 of of 5

Peaceful and relaxing.

It was a most peaceful & relaxing week, the cottage was brilliant, it was well equipped and very comfortable and had everything you could possibly want including the quietness. all helped no doubt by the wonderful weather, we really didn`t want to go home. All in all it was 100 percent, we hope the next people find it as we did.

Secluded. Walks from the door.

By Mr Colin Burkitt on 10-May-2019

The cottage was probably the best we have stayed in. Beautiful secluded location with lots of wildlife and walks from the door but only a few miles from a good shopping area. The owners are lovely people who cannot do enough to help you but are not intrusive.

5 of of 5

Exceptional place to stay.

By Mrs Angela Carkett on 19-Apr-2019

Bluebell cottage is the best cottage my husband and I have ever stayed in. The cottage has everything one could wish for in a holiday cottage. Well fitted out, everything to the highest standard to make the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. There is a variety of wild life and the bird feeder attracted many different birds, it was a pleasure to watch them. The virew of the grounds and the surrounding countryside from the cottage made this an exceptional place to stay.

Fantastic.

By Mr Adrian Blanchard on 24-Mar-2019

This property is absolutely fantastic. Set in a high vantage point in a wooded and buitifull area. There is an abundance of wildlife and some special visitors to the immediate area in front of the glass patio windows, all of which you can observe from the comfort of the living area. The hosts are great and the property is spotless. I throughly enjoyed my stay and it improved my wellbeing in such a relaxing environment. I will be returning with the wife I enjoyed it that much.

Bluebell is really one of the best.

By Mrs Maureen Naylor on 15-Jun-2018

We enjoyed a very warm welcome to Bluebell Cottage. Set in a stunning location with wonderful views, walks from the door and a lovely private sitting out space. The pictures do not really do it justice. Great for nature lovers with deer, badgers and many birds in the woodland garden. Very relaxing, quiet and peaceful. The cottage was immaculate: newly furnished and equipped. A really comfortable bed and extra TV in the bedroom was a much appreciated luxury. Ham hill itself is full of interest and there are around four beautiful National Trust properties within close proximity. Situated close to the Somerset, Dorset Border it is also a great location for touring - both coasts making great days out. Although approached by a steep, one track road, you are only a short drive from the shops and facilities in Yeovil. We have rented cottages for many years and Bluebell is really one of the best and we wish we could have stayed longer.
