Overview
Description
BLUEBELL COTTAGE. Just the place to get away and relax. In an elevated position and at the end of a long drive there is no passing traffic and the quietness is remarkable. Formerly a derelict concrete block stable it has been rebuilt with local natural hamstone and stable style doors with comfort and convenience as priorities. The king size bedroom with smart TV is cosy and relaxing, the bathroom has both bath and shower cubicle, the kitchen diner is fully equipped whilst the lounge has smart TV and patio doors. Oil-fired underfloor central heating throughout ensures warmth year round and an electric fire in the lounge can be used if necessary and provides a cosy glow. Outside a small patio area has seating and overlooks open countryside. There is plenty of space to park and guests are welcome to wander around the site.HONEYWOOD. Once a cart-horse stable for Montacute House, the property has been converted over the past 30 years by the owners, Roland and Marlene, to furnish an unusual residence in a wonderful location. Christmas Trees, bee-keeping, and logs are the occupations undertaken on this six-acre smallholding.
SURROUNDING AREA. The immediate location is dominated by Ham Hill, an ancient iron age hill fort, now a country park with 120 acres of open access and the Prince of Wales pub. Nestled around the hill are villages, including Odcombe, all with churches, most with pubs and some with shops. One of these villages, Montacute, is home to the National Trust’s Montacute House, a stately home with gardens, grounds and park. Somerset and Dorset are laced with footpaths, trackways, bridle-paths and green lanes. At the end of the driveway you can join the Pitt Lane bridleway and from there walk to your hearts content.
YEOVIL. The outskirts of Yeovil are 2 miles away where Asda, Palmers Garden Centre, café and fish-and-chip restaurant are located as well as KFC, Subway and other stores on a small trading estate. The centre of Yeovil is 4 miles away and provides the full range of facilities of a market town, including a golf-club, theatre and swimming pool, as well as open areas such as Nine-Springs Country Park.
SOUTH SOMERSET. Meandering through the lanes and villages is a good antidote to stress! There are gardens, stately homes and tourist attractions such as the Naval Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton. Www.visitsomerset.co.uk website provides full details of events and activities.
WEST COUNTRY. One of the beauties of this location is that it is central to Dorset, Somerset and parts of Devon and Hampshire, all within comfortable day-trip undertaking. The villages and countryside of West Dorset, the Jurassic Coast with seaside destinations such as Weymouth and Lyme Regis, and attractive towns such as Dorchester and Sherborne provide a wide choice. Cranborne Chase, Marshwood Vale and the AONB around Beaminster have distinct and impressive scenery. To the north Minehead, Quantoxhead, Weston-super-Mare and Burnham give a different seaside experience and Cheddar, Wookey Hole and the Mendips are absorbing. Wells, with it’s cathedral, the Somerset Levels, and Glastonbury will not fail to impress the visitor. Not far away are Exmoor and Dartmoor and a day in Exeter is very rewarding – you can travel there by train – or go in the opposite direction to Salisbury.
So whether you want to put your feet up and read a book, wear out a pair of walking shoes, or tour the around the West Country, Bluebell Cottage is the place for your holiday!

Another lovely stay
By Barbara & Brian on 22-May-2026Another lovely stay in Bluebell Cottage. Perfect for peace, tranquility and silence. A chance to catch your breath and enjoy all the natural surroundings Somerset has to offer. There are many lovely gardens to visit, East Lambrook Manor and Tintinhull to name two. We visited many churches and houses: lots of history and interest. Watching the birds and other wildlife is always a joy and visiting lots of the Hamstone villages is a feast for the eyes. Sutton Bingham country park and picnic site is a gem. We were totally alone on our visit! Also don't miss Sutton Bingham All Saints church adjacent to the picnic site. A Norman beauty. The Mason's Arms in Odcombe (Lower) is a traditional pub with a nice atmosphere and good food. Thank you, once again, Roland and Marlene for a great stay.
Our fourth great stay.
By Jill and Alan on 05-Jun-2026Another great stay at the cottage for our fourth visit, We leave our home to come to our second home. Everything is here that we need. The welcome pack is so well thought out. Weather was ok and still managed to get out and about to Sidmouth and a train ride to Bath Spa, worth a visit. A big thank you Roland and Marlene and a kiss for Brexie. See you all in the near future. X X X.

Cottage has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Nice sitting areas outside to enjoy the views and watch the birds feed at the bird table. Good food at the local village pub, Montacute NT and village also with pubs all within 20 minutes walk. Ham Hill for those who enjoy walking, Sherborne and Crewkerne all within easy reach.
Comfortable and quiet
By Phil & Anne Moore on 13-Mar-2026A fabulous, comfortable, cozy, and well-equipped cottage in lovely countryside. Everything you could need for a restful break for a couple in peace and quiet. Loads of places to visit locally or we can sit in and relax watching the trees and the abundance of birdlife. Great hosts who made us very welcome.
A gem of a place in quieter east Somerset
By John Godfrey on 10-Oct-2025Roland and Marline have a great place here, are excellent hosts and provide an impressive welcome pack. Most visitors, like us, are repeats and Bluebell Cottage does not disappoint. We have however noticed a lot more local pubs / restaurants closed which makes eating out more of a challenge but Roland offers his local knowledge to help out. Thanks both of you and see you again soon. John & Jill G.
