Fantastic weekend away

By Jordan on 09-Jan-2020

We had a great weekend away at Alison’s cottage. It’s beautifully designed and has everything you could need. A nice pub that does great food at the end of the road and endless country walks at your doorstep. Will definitely go back!

great place

By Ming Mungai on 21-Dec-2019

i just spent christmas week at townsend road and it was perfect. house is beautifully equipped and decorated, the location is excellent and the owner at the end of a phone for any query (even at christmas)! on arrival, we parked conveniently in the street and then hardly needed the car again. the house is within a very short walk of the seafront and the shops in one direction, and the coastal path in another. the whole experience was great. thank you alison.

Fabulous!

By La Royaute on 04-Sep-2019

We very much enjoyed our stay. The cottage is in a quiet location but only a short walk from the town and beach. The Black Swan pub at the end of the road does great food, and the Love Cake cafe just down the road has the best cake and coffee in town. We loved the cottage decor, and enjoyed sitting in the sunny courtyard garden. Will definitely be coming back.

Beautiful cottage and location, which is conveniently situated within walking distance to the beach and town We had a wonderful weekend break. This cottage has been furnished to a very high standard and has everything you could ask for and more. Alison has thought of every detail to make your stay special.

Our favourite place to stay in Swanage

By Climber on 13-Apr-2019

Absolutely beautiful house, every thing you could possibly need in it, smelt lovely, very clean and beautiful decor. Our girls who are 6 and 9 loved the attic room, if we weren’t at the beach or walking round swanage in an evening they were in there playing with their dolls, they loved the doorbell I had to ring to get them to come down for breakfast! Every little detail has been thought of in this place to suit everyone. Alison the owner was excellent she phoned me a few weeks before as she was going to be away herself when we arrived, she also rung me when I realised I had misplaced the address ( whilst she was on holiday herself) and texted me to check everything was ok, always lovely to talk to and very helpful, couldn’t have asked for more from her. Would highly recommend this place it’s our favourite place to stay so far in swanage and we would definitely book it again in a heart beat! Thanks Alison.

Weekend winter escape

By DENISE H on 02-Feb-2019

This was our fourth stay at Hanbury Road and it never disappoints. As always, the beautiful home fragrance welcomes you, as you arrive through the front door. The decoration of the whole house is maintained to the high standard we have become accustomed to in both of the owners’ Swanage properties. We enjoyed revisiting local places we are familiar with but were delighted to return to the cozy warmth of 1Hanbury Road to completely relax.

Home from home

By Jacqui Z on 20-Sep-2018

I booked the cottage for a celebration weekend, what a fantastic base to start from. The cottage has everything, and I mean everything. It is geared up for rain or shine. It is a stone's throw away from several bars and shops, not to mention a few lovely fish and chip shops. Next door is The Black Swan pub, and the food there was fantastic, with a lovely space out back to sit and relax. We enjoyed our stay immensely, and will look back with great fondness.

Good Memories setting

By Ioana C on 06-Aug-2018

We had a marvellous week in Swanage and beside amazing weather, landscape, seafront and company, the cottage that served us as "sea home" as my 4 years niece put it , contibute to it a lot. Beautifully decorated, practical, amazing for our two kids (4 and 10) that of cour enjoyed enourmsly having their own space in the "secret room under the roof". We ate every day in the garden and enjoyed cooking in the practical kitcken. This cottage will remain the set for some very nice memories !

Excellent

By Marishaw on 16-May-2018

Alison’s cottage is beautifully decorated and in a great location. It was great having extras such as bucket and spades and boogie boards included as my little girl loved playing with these at Studland in the beach. You can see Alison takes great pride in providing a lovely place to stay, and was a really helpful host. We appreciated the welcome treats as well. Thank you Alison

The Perfect base to explore Swanage

By QJBGO on 02-Apr-2018

This was our 4th stay! Alison is so helpful to deal with. The house is comfortable, homely, fun for the children and spotlessly clean. So much thought has gone in to the extra touches in terms of both design and practicality (beach equipment, picnic sets/blankets, back packs, brolleys, waterproofs etc etc). The pub next door serves excellent food (book early), the all hours shop a few feet away is so useful. Indian takeaway in walking distance is ok for an easy dinner. Love Cake is well worth a visit! Everything is walking distance: town, beach and the country park (good breakfast to be found at Seventh Wave cafe). When we visit, we don't touch the car for the whole stay! Even if the weather isn't too kind, you can easily pop back to the house to warm up before heading out again. Ideal! We highly recommend a stay and will certainly return.

Wonderful

By Marieanne C on 17-Feb-2018

We stayed Friday 9th Feb to Monday 11th Feb. it was myself, my husband, our 4 year old daughter and my mother in law. The cottage is beautiful. Our daughter loved the bunk room and the secret room in the attic. We loved the cozy lounge with the fire on! Great kitchen. The cottage is beautifully decorated. Great, Central location. Very handy shop around the corner for essential items. Walk to the steam railway. We had a lovely time in Corfe visiting the castle even in the rain and wind! We enjoyed a Sunday roast in the Black Swan pub next door after my mother in law and I walked from Studland back to Swanage. Alison was so helpful with details, and it was very easy with the booking, directions and access. We Highly recommend staying here. We hope to come again. perfect for a winter or summer break!

Great place to stay

By Margret T on 21-Oct-2017

Great place to stay. Booked this cottage and was very pleasantly surprised as not the usual rental holiday home you get . A lot of thought has gone into making this a home from home . Everything you could possibly need is there and a lot more. Place was nice & clean garden was lovely ideal for a spot of lunch or a drink at night. Shed full of everything you may need for beach & garden. Managed to get into Black Swan next door food was very good and reasonably priced. All in all a fab place to stay would highly recommend and would definitely return if holidaying in that part of the Country again.

Little Oasis

By Ted Picken on 18-Jun-2017

It was hot when we were there, and this place was a great retreat. Our daughter loved the bunk beds and upper floor while we were happy to chill out below and on the terrace. Pub next door was not too loud and served a good supper. Only gripe was condition of crockery and cutlery, presumably from previous guests, but soon washed up / over.

Home from home

By Brian Mogford on 27-Apr-2017

Great location, close to town and beach. Excellent facilities. There were three generations between the six of us and the cottage provided for all our needs. Various activities close at hand such as boat trip to Poole from Swanage Pier. Steam train to Corfe Castle from Swanage Station, Studland beaches only ten minutes away. Plus the added luxury of a Swanage Beach Hut!!!! We were blessed with no rain at all during our week and sunshine every day. A most enjoyable family holiday, we would do it again.

Relaxing Comfy break

By Mrs D on 01-Apr-2017

We, three adults, stayed at 4 Townsend Road for 4 nights end of March. We can only agree with the many positive reviews. The cottage is very near the town centre, comfortably, tastefully furnished and equipped to a very high standard throughout. You will find everything you could possibly wish for for a relaxing stay.. I could imagine how the loft room would appeal to children. Communication with Alison and the payment / transfer were all very quick, easy Alison sent all necessary information a few days prior to our arrival, and again as a reminder on our day of arrival. She messaged to ensure all was well after we had arrived and again after we had departed. Her approach is professional yet very personal. It made us feel truly cared for. Thank you for the treats to welcome us, we hope we can stay with you again. As for things to do, you will find plenty of suggestions in the cottage, and needless to say the surroundings are beautiful. I was grateful for Alison's advice to book ahead, for dining at the Black Swan 'round the corner. We also had an enjoyable meal at La Trattoria down in town. My sister in law and I definitely ensured that the Chococo chocolate shop made a good profit. Not cheap, but truly excellent chocolate and beautiful gifts, too.

Beautiful Cottage, great location.

Just returned from a long weekend stay at this cottage, it looks lovely in the photos but is even better when you get there. Beautifully decorated, home from home, well equipped with everything you need. The location is fantastic, great for the town centre, beach, steam railway, walks along the cliffs or for heading about and about in Dorset, oh near to a very nice pub where food was great and decently priced. Can't recommend this enough and we will definitely be back.

Wonderful stay in an exceptional cottage

By ROD T on 15-Jan-2017

We have just returned from our fourth visit to this cottage and I can honestly say it is as beautiful now as it was when we first went. The cottage is set in such a great location, local store footsteps away, and we had the best meal ever in the Black Swan - never had such a fabulous fish pie! Service was great with a very warm welcome. We enjoyed the local shops and had a long walk to Durlston Castle - such stunning views. It was a joy to come home to the cottage as it was so cosy and the owners have maintained that wonderful home from home feel - ensuring everything a family could ever need is all there. Thank you once again Alison for letting us stay in your superb Swanage hideaway! We can't wait to come back......

It's a welcome relief not to need a car, with amazing coastal walks from the door. The new Kimmeridge fossil museum is unique and an eye opener.

Fabulous House in great location

By Spindlepig on 29-Nov-2016

This has to be one of the most tastefully decorated and furnished self catering houses we have had the pleasure to stay in. Location was fab - 10 minutes walk to the town and beach and in less than 30 minutes you are on the coastal path with awesome views. Free parking on the roads by the cottage but once you have parked, there was no need for us to use the car again until we left. We managed to park directly outside the cottage. Ours was a long weekend break for 4 adults Friday to Monday. The cottage is exactly as per the photos. Highlights for us were the Black Swan pub only next door ( no noise from pub) that did good wholesome meals at reasonable prices but you need to book. We also managed a few walks including Old Harry's Rock, Anvil Point Lighthouse, Durlston Country Park (great cafe at Durlston Castle) and Winspit - all doable walks from the cottage for those with reasonable fitness. Swanage has a nice array of small shops and cafes and my only disappointment/regret is that my wife wouldn't let me go on the Swanage Steam Railway because it was the first weekend of the Santa Special train and she thought I was too old! Next time... Alison was a great host, professional and ensured our stay in her lovely house was perfect. Thank you.

Very homely cottage

By K J MCNEILL on 25-Jun-2016

We had a wonderful weeks stay. The cottage is well equipped, clean and very homely. Alison has great interior design skills and is very welcoming and friendly. The house is in a perfect location, we managed to park just metres from the house and then rarely used the car again all week as Swanage has lots to offer and an excellent bus and train link. I would certainly return and have already recommended the house to family.

Home from Home

By Birdjj on 13-Jun-2016

We really enjoyed staying in this house. It has comfy bedrooms, a lovely dining area and great kitchen. Our 5 yr loved the boat like bunkbeds and the secret room at the top of the house. It was great to stay in a home that felt well looked after and loved, which is hard to find in rented property. Also the location is just right, easy to walk to the beach front and restaurants. Another plus is there is a great pub next door, The Black Swan, that does wonderful food which made life easy with a little one. The owner was always easily available by phone and extremely helpful.
