Description
Lilac Cottage is situated in a quiet mews with a private small garden suntrap. Its location gives easy access to the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, Dales, Moors and East or West coasts. It is walking distance to the racecourse, Herriot Museum and train station plus the beautiful market square of Thirsk. Buses run regularly to Ripon, Northallerton and York. Parking is on the street with a disc, but free parking is also available. Restaurants, pubs and shops are all within a two minute walk.Lilac cottage is so welcoming. from the moment you arrive and enter the private,south facing ,albeit small,garden,you will feel at home.
Access through stable door into a spacious modern kitchen, Freezer,fridge,Hi.level cooker and grill,separate hob.dishwasher,micro.wave toaster, Well equipped with crockery,glasses,cutlery.
The lounge/dining room is a comfortable,light space,again,well equipped with comfy sofa and chairs.

I can’t praise Gill’s cottage enough
By Gwen on 30-Apr-2026I can’t praise Gill’s cottage enough. Clean, private, pretty and quiet but within a short walking distance of the town… ideal. There is parking just along the road and it was safe and easy with many options. Gill gave us directions to walk our dogs and you could walk for miles along a lovely riverside walk 2 minutes up the road. All I can say is that it is obvious that Gill has been in the hospitality industry for a long time with much experience. I will come again.
Lovely host and beautiful cottage
By Sarah on 24-May-2026great location for the town. we complied with the parking instructions only for someone to park right next to out cottage in the turning area for over a day. lovely host and beautiful cottage. we really enjoyed our stay, it was exactly what we needed. Gill is a great host!
A very pleasant stay
By Michael on 30-Mar-2026A very pleasant stay. The accommodation was wonderful and the photographs don't actually do it justice.Public parking was extremely close by but a small daily charge of £6. Easy walk of about 300yds to the main centre of Thirsk. Would highly recommend and we'll be back in the future, many thanks Gill and the welcome pack was a nice little touch,even biscuits for the dog . Everything as described
By Phil on 08-May-2026Had a great weekend away at Gills cottage, everything as described, very very close to town centre which was good for us, walking distance to race course which is why we stayed here, would stay here again, loved the sheep in the outside court yard area which was nice for sitting out and having a drink, then did our bit and watered the plants for Gill. The cottage looked so welcoming with seating at the front. Inside was so homely. It was clean with everything we needed. Fresh milk in the fridge and yummie cakes! The bed was comfey and it was a very peaceful and quiet location. We have already booked for next year ! Thankyou Gill .

By Excellent location on 11-Jul-2025Wonderful cottage. Clean, cosy and everything you will need to make your stay lovely. We liked the outdoor terrace with the sheep and loved watching the butterflies and birds. Although very central it still feels like a haven. Excellent location for thirsk shops, restaurants and pubs. Parking is off road and very handy.
