Description
The Old Toffee ShopCentral village location in the Peak District National Park. Understated luxury in a traditional stone cottage with a south facing courtyard. Renovated to a high standard with CH throughout & tastefully decorated.
There are it seems endless things to do in the area, for the young & the old very much depending on your level of fitness & sense of adventure. Almost everyone is catered for with traditional annual village events taking place throughout the summer months. Visit nearby towns & villages such as Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Castleton, Eyam, Baslow, etc. You can try abseiling, rock climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, golf, take a cable car ride, visit caverns & hidden caves, outdoor swimming or visit numerous National Trust Properties close to us, including the famous Chatsworth House. Alternatively you can take a hike to the picturesque area known for its dramatic cliffs Mam Tor. Or walk along the scenic Monsal Trail or cycle around either Ladybower or Derwent Reservoir. Or climb the highest point in the park Kinder Scout. Another special place to visit not too far away is the Heights of Abraham which is a popular place to visit with or without children with a Hilltop Dining experience proving to be very popular. Tissington may be another place to go during your stay. It is a really quaint traffic free ancient village with a stunning garden nursery at one end & a brook running through the village, very picturesque & popular with tourists.
Holiday makers from around the world are drawn to the area because of the beauty which is the Peak District National Park established in 1951 & is the oldest national park in the UK.
Tideswell Dale a nature reserve & site of SSSI is literally a 10 mins walk from our doorstep & is known for its rare wild orchids and is a pretty easy, sheltered walk along side the river Wye down to Cressbrook Mill or The Anglers Rest!
The choice of local eateries in the village is extensive, we have four public houses, two cafes and an italian restaurant literally across the road about a 3 min walk from the cottage. Budget wise The Merchants Yard is for those with deep pockets. The Star Pub serves great home cooked food. BUT do not miss a trip to Elliotts Fish & Chip be prepared for a queue especially on Friday & Saturday evenings, thats how popular Mr Elliott is. You might also want to try a TIDZA pud from the village bakery.
The village is famous for being home to the historic church, St John the Baptist which is known locally as the Cathedral of the Peak due to its impressive architecture & splendour inside & out.
Enter the cottage through the courtyard into the light & spacious kitchen dining room with ample room for 4 people. The comfy cosy lounge is equipped with a Smart TV, Alexa Echo along with a variety of books, up to date magazines and some board games. A log burner takes centre stage in the beautifully decorated room. The property has a spacious master bedroom with dual aspect windows & a super comfortable king size bed made up with crisp quality bedding. The smaller second bedroom is really charmingly decorated which children will love and those adults who are young at heart, can also be easily accommodated in the two full size single beds, again made up with luxury linens. The smart & contemporary shower room has a large waterfall shower and has been tiled using tiles from Porscelanosa with a surprising dramatic affect.
We can provide a travel cot, high chair & baby bath should you require them. We have an integral stair gate fitted to the bottom of the stairs. We have a heated outdoor Boot Room with a shower for your dog or for you to clean off your boots or store your bicycle. We can provide a dog bed, doggie towels, throw, shampoo & conditioner along with spare lead & collar just in case. Our coffee machine is a JURA bean to cup & most guests love it. Garden furniture including soft cushions & parasol for the table for al-fresco eating.

By Charlotte on 26-May-2025From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was second to none. We were warmly welcomed into a spotless, beautifully kept space — it was immaculately clean from top to bottom, with every room feeling fresh, tidy, and inviting. What really stood out were the thoughtful touches throughout. Everything we could possibly need was already there — from fully stocked kitchen items to fresh towels and toiletries. There were even little extras for our dog, which we truly appreciated — it’s not often you find a place that goes out of its way to make pets feel as welcome as their owners! The owner checked in with us during our stay to make sure everything was going well, which was a lovely gesture and made us feel genuinely looked after. Overall, it was a perfect experience. Impeccably clean, fully equipped, pet-friendly, and hosted with true care — we wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend it to others.

By Kate on 04-Nov-2024An amazing property,. Beautifully presented, extremely clean and very well stocked. You can tell the love and care that has gone into creating this rental and Julie clearly has very good taste. Everything you could possibly need - Julie has included it and she’s gone the extra mile with lovely extra touches. The cottage is well located right in the heart of Tideswell with walks and restaurants on your doorstep. If you have a dog, the boot room outside is fantastic with its warm shower and Julie even supplies dog towels and shampoo. I cannot recommend this property enough and we’ll most certainly be back!

They haven’t stopped talking about it and would happily return again. The gift of toffees, Prosecco and welcome food pack was a really special touch too. Thank you Julie and Nigel, you were wonderful hosts ️
