Description

Situated in the heart of the ever-popular town of Windermere, this superb, traditional property in the South Lakes area is set in a row of Victorian Lakeland stone cottages, 1.5 miles from Lake Windermere. The perfect base for families or couples, guests at this cosy Windermere cottage will be delighted with the standard of accommodation provided, and its excellent location, in a quiet street very close to the centre of Windermere, with its wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. Queen's park, containing children's play area, is at the end of the road. Although there is plenty to do in the immediate area, it is easy to travel to other parts of the Lake District via car, bus or boat. The cottage is situated in a quiet street very near to all amenities and yet, in 20 minutes, you can walk up to Orrest Head to see a fabulous view of the lake! In the evening, the proximity to the village of Windermere and its restaurants and bars means that you can very easily walk to get a meal or a drink.

This spacious Windermere cottage offers three bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, and an additional shower room. There is also a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable sitting room with an electric fire and a large bay window, and a separate dining room. The efficient central heating system ensures that the Windermere cottage is cosy whatever the weather. Outside is a small front terrace, whilst to the rear there is a yard with a table and chairs, and your own off-road parking area - very useful in Windermere village, which has many visitors to its shops and cafes.

Located in the heart of the Lake District, with the quaint Cumbrian villages of Ambleside, Hawkshead and Grasmere, all within 15 miles of your Windermere cottage, there are lots of pretty places to explore. Pack a picnic and head up Orrest Head, highlighted by fellwalker and author, Alfred Wainwright, for breathtaking views across Lake Windermere, or meander down the Lake on the Windermere Steamer to Lakeside and enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, and the Haverthwaite and Lakeside Steam Railway. The Old Laundry Theatre has a variety of productions during the year and there is the Royalty cinema at Bowness for a rainy day!

This Windermere cottage is a superb Lake District base, at any time of year. Short breaks available during October to March.

Just what we were looking for

By Gill on 13-Sep-2024

We very much enjoyed our stay at Fairoak. It's a comfortable, well equipped house right in the centre of Windermere. The rooms are all decent dimensions - larger than the photos suggest - and the high ceilings add to the sense of spaciousness. We were four adults and had plenty of room. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was ample hot water and powerful showers - essential after wet days on the fells! The check in arrangements were straightforward and we appreciated Sarah's help, prompt communication and flexibility throughout. If we were looking for a base in Windermere again we would definitely come back.

Delightful stay in the heart of Windermere

By Kathryn Mclean on 17-May-2024

Lovely long weekend stay at Fairoak. Perfect location in the centre of Windermere but also very quiet even though town was busy. The house had everything we needed, was clean and spacious. Easily walkable down into Bowness. Spent a full day cruising around the lake getting off and on at Ambleside and Lakeside. Lots of lovely places to eat and drink, we dined at San Pietro which was superb!

Birthday Break in the Lakes

By Mark McCaffrey on 10-May-2024

Very pleased with the house we stayed in. It was steps away Windermere town and everything it had to offer. It was clean, tidy and comfortable. The only two complaints we had were the beds being too soft (this is a personal preference and not a reflection on the quality of the furniture) and the strange macerator toilet in the en-suite. It was very strange using a square toilet seat! It was the wrong shape for my bum! I would recommend this location to anyone. Sarah, the owner is charming and friendly. For a week in the Lakes, you can't ask for more. Mark McCaffrey

Comfortable cottage, great location

By Peter W on 04-Apr-2024

A warm, well equipped property, within easy access to Windermere and beyond.

Spacious and comfortable

By Christine on 03-Apr-2024

The cottage was spacious and comfortable. It was in a good location. It was near shops restaurants and takeaways, which was ideal as we had a toddler with us, so ate in at night. The owner also provided games and books and was flexible with the time of arrival and departure, which was very much appreciated.

Perfect location

By Joanne Lewis on 29-Dec-2023

We have just returned from a short break. We couldn't have asked for a better location to Windermere and all the local shops and bars, including only a short walk to Bowness. Comfortable accommodation with two reception rooms. Owner responds quickly and is very helpful and friendly.
