Situated in the heart of the ever-popular town of Windermere, this superb, traditional property in the South Lakes area is set in a row of Victorian Lakeland stone cottages, 1.5 miles from Lake Windermere. The perfect base for families or couples, guests at this cosy Windermere cottage will be delighted with the standard of accommodation provided, and its excellent location, in a quiet street very close to the centre of Windermere, with its wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. Queen's park, containing children's play area, is at the end of the road. Although there is plenty to do in the immediate area, it is easy to travel to other parts of the Lake District via car, bus or boat. The cottage is situated in a quiet street very near to all amenities and yet, in 20 minutes, you can walk up to Orrest Head to see a fabulous view of the lake! In the evening, the proximity to the village of Windermere and its restaurants and bars means that you can very easily walk to get a meal or a drink.

This spacious Windermere cottage offers three bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, and an additional shower room. There is also a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable sitting room with an electric fire and a large bay window, and a separate dining room. The efficient central heating system ensures that the Windermere cottage is cosy whatever the weather. Outside is a small front terrace, whilst to the rear there is a yard with a table and chairs, and your own off-road parking area - very useful in Windermere village, which has many visitors to its shops and cafes.

Located in the heart of the Lake District, with the quaint Cumbrian villages of Ambleside, Hawkshead and Grasmere, all within 15 miles of your Windermere cottage, there are lots of pretty places to explore. Pack a picnic and head up Orrest Head, highlighted by fellwalker and author, Alfred Wainwright, for breathtaking views across Lake Windermere, or meander down the Lake on the Windermere Steamer to Lakeside and enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, and the Haverthwaite and Lakeside Steam Railway. The Old Laundry Theatre has a variety of productions during the year and there is the Royalty cinema at Bowness for a rainy day!

This Windermere cottage is a superb Lake District base, at any time of year. Short breaks available during October to March.

Very comfortable cottage

By Rev Johnson on 20-Dec-2019

Very comfortable cottage, well-heated and in a great location. Handy for the shops and bars/restaurants and also for the bus/train to get around without needing a car. If we were holidaying in Windermere again we would definitely consider staying here again before looking anywhere else.

Super stay at Fairoak

By Mrs Sellers, Kelso on 21-Oct-2019

Super stay at Fairoak. Great location right near centre of Windermere with a parking space/drive at back. So close to shops and restaurants but in quiet and pretty little street. House has everything you need. Very warm and cosy. Ample space for 5 people – my daughter and I had loads of room on our own. Great base for the whole of Lake district. Totally recommend!

Central for everything

By Miss Blythe, Feltham on 27-Sep-2019

Had a fantastic stay at Fairoak … Sarah was so lovely to deal with accommodation literally central for everything … loved the recommendation from Sarah the host to walk up Orrest Head which is right near the property Stunning views – Bowness also a short walk away. Off street parking brilliant as tried not to use the car every day. Shower lovely and Sarah has thought of everything including plasters first aid kit everything you could think of was available would recommend weather a mixture of sunshine and rain which is just how to enjoy the Lake District.

Good value for money

By Miss Walton, Hove on 20-Sep-2019

We were warm, comfortable and very happy with the facilities and household items we needed, and the great location of Fairoak. The added service of a parking permit for our second car was especially helpful. Being in Windermere allowed easy access to shops, cafes and transport, (especially local buses and the railway). We all felt Fairoak was good value for money too. We’d visit again. Four contented female travellers!

Right in the heart of Windermere

By Mr Phasey, Purley on 21-Aug-2019

Mr Phasey, Purley, August 2019
Some of the cooking utensils were a bit old, the frying pans in particular. Cooker hood didn’t work (light or fan). Overall though a nice place to stay as a base and right in the heart of Windermere which is what we wanted.

We really enjoyed our holiday here

By Mr Cunningham, Coventry on 09-Jul-2019

This property is more than adequate for a comfortable short stay holiday. The only reservations we would have in recommending this cottage to friends are the difficulty of operating the key safe, which anyone with poor eyesight would have difficulty in managing, and the restricted access to the car parking position. This latter is obviously out of control of the owner. The property could not be better placed for easy access to all the facilities in the town of Windermere. We really enjoyed our holiday here.

Very clean, well-equipped and spacious

By Mrs Frost, Lanark on 21-Jun-2019

Mrs Frost, Lanark, June 2019
We had a wonderful stay at this cottage in Windermere. The owner was super to deal with and so helpful, showing a great deal of care about her house and guests. The house itself was in a fantastic location which is quiet and yet only a very short flat walk to lots of shops, restaurants and cafes, the bonus of a private parking space which is rare in this location, making it even better. The house was very clean, well equipped and spacious and there were helpful notes on what to do with the heating, bins etc. The only small thing I would say would be that the sofas could do with replacing, but I would highly recommend this cottage, would certainly return and indeed hope to do so next year.

Really well- located for the village centre shops and restaurants

By Mrs Donald, Edinburgh on 09-Jun-2019

We really enjoyed staying at Fairoak. The house is very comfortable and really well-located for the village centre shops and restaurants. Having a parking space was fantastic, but the house is really close to the bus stop for buses north and south which run every 15 minutes or so to Bowness, Brockhole, etc. We enjoyed not having to drive everywhere. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Fairoak.

Extremely comfortable, warm and spacious

By Mr Bradford, Ossett on 17-May-2019

A lovely house yards from the centre of Windermere. It is extremely comfortable, warm and spacious. The added bonus was parking at the rear of the house as it was impossible to park elsewhere with ease or near at hand. The shops, including a supermarket and restaurants were very near at hand yet the street was quiet. The owner was very helpful and quick at replying to queries. We had a great holiday in a beautiful location in a comfy home. We intend to return to Windermere next year if all goes to plan and will book this house again if it is free.

A lovely cottage in a great location

By Mrs Taylor, Buckingham on 19-Apr-2019

This is a lovely cottage in a great location. We have a six and five year old and found that the cottage had everything we needed. There is a parking space at the back of the house which is great as there is limited spaces in the village. There are toys and games provided and kids dvds. The house is clean and very spacious and I can not fault it. There is a nice park at the end of the road and the local shops, pubs and restaurants are a one minute walk away. In terms of things to do with small kids, there is lots in the local area. You can walk up to Orrest Head from the cottage. It takes about 20 minutes and the views of the lake are amazing. We walked down the hill to Bowness most days. It takes about twenty minutes and there is lots to do there. We did a boat trip, visited the old style cinema and enjoyed the lake. There is also the Beatrix Potter museum here. Further a field we visited Wray Castle and Keswick. Both have great playgrounds for the kids. We also went to Coniston, and Grizedale Forest which were great days out. We also went to Brockhole which is a 5 minute drive away. It is nice to walk around and has a good play area but the activities are quite expensive and overpriced in my opinion. We had a fab week and would stay here again.

This was the most perfect accommodation i have ever stayed in

By Mr Letheby, Hope Valley on 02-Mar-2019

This was the most perfect accommodation I have ever stayed in. I felt so much at home I actually felt like this was my home. Everything was spotlessly clean. The bedding was very comfortable and the house was cozy and warm. Being in town made it that much more enjoyable as all the shops, restaurants, attractions, etc were within easy walking distance. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
