Most home from home holiday we've had!
By Cassie Vallely on 17-Aug-2018
My family and I have been visiting Cyprus for many years now. My Husband and I were married there 12 years ago, so it holds a special place in our hearts. So far we have never rented the same villa twice, until now! We have already enquired about renting this villa again next year. I have never felt so at home in another villa, as I have here. All the personal little touches, such as the cushions, the trinkets, wall hangings and fairy lights all made the villa feel so warm and comfortable. The outdoor space is just as welcoming and inviting, as the villa itself. The pool area being so close to the front door of the villa made it easy to keep an eye on the children, if I needed to be inside. The roof terrace was a welcome bonus. It was my Husbands favourite part of the day to enjoy a drink in the evening sun, before heading out for the evening meal. The location of the villa is perfect, as it's close enough to Kyrenia, but actually located in the more quite village of Catalkoy. I really can't praise the villa enough and would recommend it to anyone!
Excellent villa to stay in
By Kathryn Brown on 06-Jun-2018
We stayed in Villa Carob for one week and what a relaxing week it was. The villa was beautiful and very comfortable, well equiped and the free wifi was especially useful. The gardens were full of colour and there were different seating areas so if you need shade you can find it at any time of day. The roof terrace was a particularly good seating area at sunset, with views to both the coast and the mountains. Janet and John were very easy to contact and were very helpful from our first contact re booking right through to detailed instructions for the villa. This was much appreciated.
Excellent holiday in North Cyprus
By Allison Waddell on 18-Jan-2018
We had an excellent holiday in North Cyprus in early October and much of our enjoyment was due to the location, ambience and amenities of Villa Carob.
This was our first visit to the North (Turkish) part, which we chose because it is less developed and commercialised. However we still wanted to be near Kyrenia, the main town and to have easy access to restaurants, beaches and places of interest. Villa Carob in the village of Catalkoy fulfilled our requiements perfectly. It is in a small, peaceful development on the edge the village within easy reach of Kyrenia.
The villa has all the amenities important to a self catering holiday – it is clean, tidy and spacious with ample storage, a large lounge with TV, DVD player etc., a well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedroom with ensuite and two further bedrooms (which we did not use as there were only two of us), wifi, spacious outside relaxing areas and a large swimming pool. Before booking and also prior to going, we were able to talk to the owners, Janet and John, who were very helpful and assisted with all our questions. They also organized our car hire and airport collection/ drop off at Larnaca, which all went smoothly.
There is so much to see and do in North Cyprus that we travelled over 600 miles in our hired car yet still enjoyed plenty of relaxation at the villa. There are supermarkets and several very good restaurants in Catalkoy, some within walking distance of the villa. We found the local people extremely friendly and helpful and the area beautiful and full of interesting places to visit. We’ll certainly be returning!

We can honestly say we have spent the most relaxing and enjoyable two weeks at this lovely villa. From the moment we walked through the gate we knew it would be good, the pool was glistening and inviting and as we opened the front door and walked in we immediately felt welcome and comfortable.
The location is good for exploring North Cyprus, a car would be advisable as the villa is tucked away from the main road area and there is so much to see plus some great restaurants not too far away.
The owners were very helpful prior to our visit and the manager was available if we needed anything.
Clearly a much loved holiday home and very well cared for.
We would love to stay again and would recommend Villa Carob for both couples and families looking for a relaxing, peaceful holiday.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review, Tony and Gill. That's exactly the response that we like to have from our guests, and we're so glad that you enjoyed your holiday and loved Northern Cyprus. We would love to have you stay with us in the future. Many thanks Janet and John
Wonderful villa with a comfortable, homely feel
By Ken Rivington on 24-May-2017
We loved the villa, it was spacious, had everything we needed and we loved the way it was decorated with colourful cushions and knick knacks from the local area. It felt a real home from home.
We thought the welcome pack was a nice touch and was well used.
We were amazed at the quality of the local area, lots of excellent places to eat, to buy food, to visit and everybody was so pleasant and welcoming.
The weather was mostly warm or hot and that is when the gorgeous pool came into its own. In fact most of us swam every day.
We managed to visit three castles, the abbey, Roman ruins, a mosque and drive some amazing roads over the magnificent mountains. We were even entertained by a whirling dervish in the capital Nicosia!
We were delighted that, visiting in May, the flowers were at their best, looking gorgeous in their many colours. The garden was a delight, we loved the special touches everywhere.
Cyprus, especially Northern Cyprus, will always be a wonderful memory - and we have the photos to prove it!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words, Ken. Feeling the way that you do about our villa has made us feel rather proud, as you obviously "get it" and have our taste! May is a wonderful time to go, but then each month has its merits. John has worked hard on making sure that the garden is a pleasant space to be in. I hope that you ate the apricots as they fruit for such a short time. Looking forward to having you stay with us in the future. Regards Janet and John
The Villa was lovely and in a nice quiet location
By Ken M on 28-Oct-2016
It was just perfect. The Villa was well equipped, lovely pool and lots of outside areas for eating and relaxing. The Villa Manager was always available if needed. The location was within easy reach of lots of restaurants if you had a car. The Kyrenia Harbour area was a favourite place of ours to eat especially in an evening. There is a lovely small beach a short distance away. Would definitely recommend this Villa
Owner's Response: Hi Ken Sorry about the delay in responding to your lovely comments. Thank you so much for them - so glad that you enjoyed your holiday. Alan and Joan (the house managers) do try hard to make sure that the villa is warm and welcoming, and that you enjoy your stay. We'd love to welcome you back in the near future as you were perfect guests. Regards Janet and John
Villa Carob is a perfect holiday home
By Joyce M on 28-Sep-2016
We have been to Villa Carob before so felt instantly comfortable and at home. Travel to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is easy with stress free taxi transfers from the airports available at a very reasonable cost. The accommodation is excellent for a family or for a party of adults. The private pool, set in spacious villa grounds in a quiet, rural neighbourhood, is so relaxing and makes it a pleasure to spend time here. The property is well maintained, well equipped, clean and very comfortable. Driving is easy (on the same side of the road as in the UK) and there are so many different places to see and things to do, it is an advantage to hire a car. There are shops, beaches, restaurants and places of interest very close at hand. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and took the opportunity to travel a bit further afield to see the beautiful more remote parts of this beautiful part of the world. We hope to return again some day soon.

This was our first visit to Cyprus and arriving at Villa Carob at nightfall made it all very exciting! We’d had a smooth journey with Easyjet to Larnaca followed by a taxi ride with a chatty driver who drove us deftly over the mountains, after navigating us smoothly across the border from the Greek Cypriot area into the Turkish region.
The scent of wisteria at Villa Carob’s gate was heady and beautiful. The garden looked intriguing by moonlight. Once inside the villa, we were highly impressed with its spaciousness and very tasteful décor. The furniture blended the contemporary with some antique Mediterranean pieces and was complemented by soft furnishings and wall hangings picked out in jewel colours. Restful yet vibrant, homely yet tantalisingly exotic!
We slept soundly in very comfy beds with snugly duvets. There was always plenty of hot water for baths and showers with lots of soft absorbent bath towels - and the plumbing never let us down.
Mornings dawned bright and sunny. The kitchen appliances and gadgets all worked easily and the water cooler was an unexpected bonus. We had our pick of 3 patios to eat breakfast on – the south-facing one was a real suntrap at that time of day. The garden was delightful with its mixture of Mediterranean flowering plants, citrus trees and shrubs. The owners’ love for their garden definitely shone through. The orange blossom was in full bloom as were bougainvillea and roses. The aloe vera plant stood proud as did the mighty carob tree.
Then there was the swimming pool…so blue and clean and inviting…beautifully relaxing in the water and around the pool on the sun loungers….heavenly.
The roof terrace was the perfect place for sundowner G & Ts every evening with its backdrop of the mountains to the south and the blue Mediterranean sea to the north. (Bombay Sapphire gin was a third of the UK price and local brandy was very cheap and very drinkable!).
We’d have had a wonderful time if we’d have stayed the whole time at Villa Carob but we do like to get out and explore so, with a rental from A1Car Hire, we visited Kyrenia and loved its harbourside bars and cafes with its relaxed atmosphere. The mountain-top St Hilarion Castle was super-impressive but you’ve got to be prepared to climb and climb – but it was definitely worth it for the terrific views you get of the northern coastline. Bellapais Monastery was a tranquil and spiritual place and we can certainly recommend eating at the courtyard restaurant of Bella Moon in Bellapais.
A wonderful island and a wonderful villa.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. You too have obviously fallen under the spell of this beautiful Mediterranean island. We are always thrilled when we hear such positive comments, and are pleased that you enjoyed staying in our home. We look forward to welcoming you again. Janet and John
Lovely Villa ideal for a relaxing holiday
By Fatema Manchester on 31-Aug-2016
This is a lovely villa which is ideal for a relaxing holiday. It is very well furnished and equipped with a lovely pool and gardens. The owners were extremely helpful and arranged car hire and transfers from the airport for us. There are restaurants and supermarkets nearby and the nearest beach club is only a 5 minute drive away. A great base for a holiday in Northern Cyprus.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review and glad that you enjoyed your stay in the Villa Carob. We always try to think of what we would like if we were holidaying in a private villa, which is also someone's home, so we have tried to make it very comfortable. Booking taxis and car hire is just part of the service which we try to offer, and we are always available to help your holiday run smoothly. We always enjoy having guests who look after our home as if it were their own. Thank you.
A wonderful Villa for a relaxing holiday
By Philip C on 14-Sep-2015
We cannot recommend this villa highly enough. We have been coming to Cyprus for many years and while this was our first stay at Villa Carob, this is sure to become a favourite for us and our friends.
The owners were wonderfully helpful and communicative, and always made themselves available for questions about the house or the island itself.
In addition, the representative on the island, who came to introduce himself and to clean the pool, was really helpful, and provided us with a great welcome shopping pack to get us up and running on our first morning.
The villa is situated in a quiet area just above the main village of Catalkoy, with the mountains behind and the sea below.
While Catalkoy has some amenities, it is about a 15 minute drive to the main town of Kyrenia. As with anywhere in Cyprus we would recommend a car to make the most of the island. There are great supermarkets only 5 minutes drive away.
The villa has everything you will require during your stay. It is clear from the décor and furniture that the villa has been used extensively by the owners as a family holiday home as it has a really homely feel. It was also immaculately clean.
There is a lovely through breeze in the lounge/diner downstairs throughout the day, even when the August heat was at it's peak. This meant that for once we didn't need to put on the air conditioning unit downstairs in the house at all. Upstairs the rooms are spacious with plenty of storage and all have air conditioning units to ensure a good night's sleep in Cyprus in August! The roof terrace (complete with glitter ball!!) is a nice addition though we didn't use it.
The gardens are really nicely laid out, which is unusual for newer villas in Cyprus. There is also a BBQ, and all of the necessary tools, and there is a good degree of shade where required. Although the house is on a small estate of villas, you do not feel overlooked. The pool is a great size with graduating depth and our young boys spent most of their time in there until late at night.
Overall, we recommend Villa Carob highly. We only hope it is available again for us next year as it is sure to become a popular property.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It's good to know that our hardwork is appreciated and that you enjoyed the villa as much as we do. We would love to welcome you and your family back in the future. Janet and John
A stylish home away from home
By J Wallace on 14-Sep-2015
Villa Carob has been lovingly designed and tastefully furnished to reflect all the charm that this part of northern Cyprus has to offer. Set as it is in immaculately maintained and sensitively landscaped gardens, you really do feel as if you have stepped into your own piece of paradise. We stayed with our sons and their partners and it was three days before we made any attempt to explore further afield: the villa and gardens provided everything we needed! The pool & sunbathing deck were fantastic whilst the fabulous carob tree and lots of other special corners, provided ample shade for the times when you wanted to retreat in isolated splendour! Inside, the owners have bestowed love, care and attention on every facet of the decor. Beautiful fabrics and artwork - reflecting the Turkish culture, reinforced the sense of place and really did help us to connect with this wonderful part of the world. We will be back!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review of Villa Carob. We have worked hard to ensure that the villa reflects the Mediterranean atmosphere, yet still feels comfortable and homely. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back again. Janet and John

We stayed at the villa September 2014. We had a really relaxing holiday. The villa is situated in a lovely peaceful location, but within easy reach of some good restaurants and beaches if you can tear yourself away from the enticing pool. The pool area is within a well maintained garden giving some shaded areas should you need it.
The villa was spotlessly clean and extremely well presented, with everything we needed to make it feel like home from home. Upon our arrival late at night the welcome pack was more than adequate to see us through until the next day when we could get to the near by supermarket.
Also thank you to Janet & John for their invaluable help by arranging the taxi transfer from Larnaca airport and car hire.
We enjoyed our holiday so much we have already booked it again for 2015.
