Special Offer! 29th August to 5th September only £1650 or £1250 for 4 nights!Abbott Moss sits majestically on the edge of its own lake in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Eden Valley in Cumbria. Approaching this three bedroom sandstone house via a gated, private lane bordered by dry stone walls, your first glimpse of Abbott Moss will set the scene for your holiday. Recently renovated by a top UK Designer, the transformation is phenomenal with an explosion of style, colour and comfort. With its cool grey tones and fabric blinds, the kitchen's six large picture windows frame the lake and flood the house with light. The fascinating wildlife changes throughout the seasons. There are squashy sofas, comfortable armchairs and a dining table with views across the lake. Eclectic pictures, wallpapers, rugs and fabrics have been chosen with love and care – each complimenting the other.
Upstairs are 3 bedrooms – the Master has a super king bed. Indian kilims and clever lighting make this room calm, beautiful, and restful. The en-suite has a cast iron bath with waterfall shower, sink and loo. Bedroom two has single beds which can zip and link to make a super king. Bedroom three – the Indian Room – has twin beds with embroidered throws, decorative headboards and an antique kilim. The family bathroom with twin sinks and walk in shower is shared between these two rooms. No fighting for the views as they all have them!
This exceptional home is surrounded by large gardens – your only neighbours are a herd of curious sheep and the occasional pheasant. You will feel very peaceful here. Abbott Moss is the perfect retreat, but with the northern lakes on your doorstep, castles and market towns only a short drive away, you won’t need too venture far. Then it is back to Abbott Moss for its comfort, views and solitude. Feel free to wild swim, bring canoes or kayaks (just please sign our disclaimer).
We are happy to accept one small and very well behaved dog. Lazonby is a working Estate and there are pheasant shoots during the winter.

Our 4th Time at Abbott Moss and wanting to go again...
By Jane Edwards on 18-Oct-2025Our 4th time at Abbot Moss and wanting to go again. Julia (she looks after the house) is delightful and very helpful. Everything was to a very high standard. Tips for other travellers Walking was our main reason for going and a walk along the Eden river was fabulous. No pubs in walking distance as such but all friendly and worth travelling to 2-3 miles. Take your own drinks as nothing better than having a beer, wine G&T overlooking the lake. One of us went wild swimming brilliant.
A beautiful place to stay!
By Kirsty Hurrell on 17-Oct-2025A beautiful place to stay. It has everything you need and more. It was spotlessly clean. The beds are so super comfy. The only thing I will say is that each morning and night the garden is full of phesants at least 100 so bare that in mind if you have a dog. This is truly a wondeful, relaxing and quiet place to retreat away from the world.
A Very Special Property Indeed

Abbot Moss is the most wonderful place to stay!
By Sandra Starkey on 30-May-2025I don't know where to start. Abbot Moss is the most wonderful place to stay. Its setting in a lovely rural location, down a private road and with its own lake is beautiful and tranquil. The geese, ducks, pheasants, oyster catchers, birds of prey, sheep and lambs, rabbits and squirrels are all around together with an abundance of insect life which is heartening. The house is full of light and has beautiful views from every aspect. It's a loved house, very comfortable and practical and each room is a joy of colour, warmth and comfort. It has everything you might need to enjoy your stay. There are useful villages nearby and we found everyone friendly and helpful. Each trip around the locality is so lovely, there's no need to travel far. Walks and wildlife are all around. There's a lovely welcome when you arrive and Julia is so helpful and clearly loves Abbot Moss and making you feel welcome. The house is immaculately presented and she provides fresh eggs from her hens and a very good home made cake. Thank you very much Julia.
