Description

Le Moulin is a typical farmhouse for the area, located in glorious countryside halfway between Toulouse and Carcassonne. The house is totally private, but not isolated, and is under one hour from the convenient airports of Toulouse or Carcassonne.

For an Ariel video of the property see: https://youtu.be/lb1H0Tr81Ew

There are six bedrooms and five bathrooms, so we can sleep ten adults and two children in comfort ( one bedroom has bunk beds). We can also provide a couple of cots on request.
One bedroom and bathroom is in a converted windmill, just a few yards from the house. This romantic and secluded bedroom has a steep staircase, so is not suitable for everyone.
The main bedroom is on the ground floor, with ensuite bathroom and small dressing room. It is at the far end of the house and very quiet.
Have a look at the floor plan which you will find among the photos.

Attached to the house is a massive open-sided barn, called a Hangar, which is the focus of Summer living with a large dining table, plenty of comfortable chairs and a full size ping pong table. The high roof and open sides mean that the Hangar is cool, even in the hottest weather.
Next to the Hangar is a summer kitchen , fully equipped except for a cooker, but both gas and charcoal barbecues are provided.
The Hangar looks onto the heated pool which has a salt filter. The pool has an electric security cover.

The small village of Salles sur L'Hers is only a five minute drive away and has a small supermarket, butcher, boulangerie, tabac, newspapers and chemist and also has a health centre, dentist and hairdresser. Hypermarkets and larger shops are in Castelnaudary, about 25 minutes away.

WiFi is available throughout the house and Hangar, usually providing between 20 and 50 mbps, good for rural France.

This is not a house for those yearning for discos and crowds, but for all others it will provide a magical holiday location.

Fantastic family holiday

By Camilla Ritchie on 02-Aug-2025

With so much to occupy them the children and grandchildren were kept busy all the time whether it was playing boules, cards, croquet, swimming or doing so many of the other activities available at Le Moulin. We all had a great time. Such a great area with lots of historic places to explore. Highly recommended.

What a find!

By Ian Musty on 26-Jul-2025

What to say! We have been renting houses in France for over 40 years and Christopher and Arabella’s second home ticks all the boxes. For more than 20 years they have been renovating and improving this farmhouse on a hill with 360 degree views of the beautiful unspoilt countryside. Of course, the outside areas are were you spend your time and the heated pool, the children’s area and above all the spacious “Hanger”, with dining tables, loads of easy chairs, table tennis and two barbecues make for a very relaxing holiday. The six bedrooms and five bathrooms are ideal for larger groups including one of each in the Moulin. The spacious house provides comfort and is a home, not a holiday house. We have visited the larger towns of Castelnaudery and Carcassonne in previous years so this time we only drove to Mirepoix (on Monday Market Day, - loads of Brits!), the local lake and Villefranche de Lauragais. The draw of living in Le Moulin constantly encouraged us back and it is where we spent most of our holiday. Back in England, Christopher and Arabella are extremely accessible and helpful if needed and returned the security deposit within 24 hours. Thank you to you both from the Mustys and the Charbonniers for a wonderful week.

An idyllic family holiday in an unspoilt part of France

By Valerie Hauswaldt on 12-Jul-2025

We spent an incredible two weeks staying at Le Moulin with our family and some friends. Everything about the house was set up perfectly for families and for entertaining. Our kids were in and out of the swimming pool all through the day with breaks to play table tennis, jump on the trampoline or play on the giant chess set. Meanwhile cooking was made easy by the two kitchens with everything you would need and the lovely village just a short drive away. Despite being in a wonderfully rural location there is so much to do within a short drive and we visited lots of castles, lakes, medieval cities and lovely restaurants. Sitting in the evening watching the sun set over the mountains in the distance is an amazing way to finish the day. Highly recommend

Stunning and Peaceful Stay

By Carmen Delaney on 24-Jun-2025

My family and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Le Moulin. The house is stunning and has incredible panoramic views all around. The sunsets are incredible. We enjoyed swimming in the pool, taking lovely walks through the countryside and visiting the nearby markets in Villefranche-de-Lauragais and Mirepox. Its a perfect position to visit Toulouse, Carcassonne, Castelnaudary and even up into the Pyrenees. We would highly recommend it!

A beautiful house

By Gavin Rand on 02-Jul-2021

Le Moulin is a beautiful house, in a stunning location. The house is homely and very well appointed; the rooms are large and all are very comfortable; the pool, hangar and summer kitchen are outstanding; the grounds and garden are fantastic, and there is plenty to do, see and taste nearby. On top of all of this, Christopher and Arabella were amazingly helpful in the run up to and during our stay, going out of their to make us feel welcome and help us to enjoy the holiday. Having been frustrated by Covid in 2020, we shared a happy fortnight at Le Moulin with our extended family in 2021. It was well worth the wait! The house was perfect for us and there was something for all members of the party: the one year old twins had great fun on the climbing frame and in the play house, the older kids loved the pool, chess and table tennis, the parents enjoyed the hangar and the sun loungers, and the grandparents enjoyed the tranquility of the windmill bedroom! We all agreed that Le Moulin is the best holiday house that we have visited, and we have already begun to plan, and look forward to, our next visit! This really is a fantastic house to holiday in - we can't recommend it highly enough. Six stars!

Absolutely perfect

By Claire Harper on 02-Aug-2021

We stayed at Le Moulin in August 2021, having only booked it the week beforehand. Christopher and Arabella were so accommodating and flexible with our booking and readily available by email with information, contact details for local people on the ground and useful tips and reminders. The house itself is absolutely perfect for large groups, even though only the 4 of us stayed on this occasion. The bedrooms are all very comfortable with plenty of towels, hanging space and extras provided. The two kitchens provide everything you could possibly need to cook meals at home and the outdoor space is enough to keep even the most active children (and adults) entertained for hours on end. I think we played pretty much every game on offer - golf, croquet, boules - and spent countless hours in the pool, both during the day and at night. The setting is so beautiful with views all round the house and stunning sunsets. We visited Castelnaudary (home of the cassoulet), Carcassonne (extremely busy and touristy but still worth a visit), white water rafting at Foix, the underground river at Labouiche and the awesome Parc Aquaviva. Would definitely recommend this place to other families!
