Description

Maison sur la Colline is a charming and sympathetically converted barn, located in a stunning vine growing village in sunny South West France. The spacious house runs over three floors. The ground floor has an open plan, comfortable living/dining area with a well equipped kitchen, UK television and wi-fi. Upstairs there are two good sized, well -furnished double bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms and toilets. Downstairs is used as a games room with a full size pool table, with a third bathroom with a bath. This property is ideal for couples sharing or families. Outside there are spectacular views of the local area from the private pool and the terrace provides an ideal place for alfresco dining. There is also a large, secure driveway.

La Digne d’Aval is typical of a sleepy circulade village of the region, where the pace of life is very slow, but you may find yourself here when there is a local fete and then there will be dancing in the streets literally.

The nearest town of Limoux, just 7 kms away, sits on the river Aude and centres around a large town square which is bordered by bars, cafes & restaurants and hosts the town’s lively market every Friday. Limoux is renowned for its sparkling wine “Blanquette de Limoux”, said to pre-date champagne. It has to be tasted and where better than at the summer night market, held every week in July and August. Market day is every Friday in Limoux and Monday in the medieval and historic square of Mirepoix just 20 mins away.

The house is located within easy reach of the town of Carcassonne, with its famous medieval castle, known as La Cite. If you would prefer to spend a lazy day on a golden sandy Mediterranean beach, then Narbonne Plage, Leucate Plage and many others are about 1.5 hours drive away. The spring water swimming pools at Alet les Bains, the beaches of the numerous swimming lakes, kayaking on the Aude, cycle hire and the Abbey at St.Hilaire, are all a short distance from the house. If you want to go further afield, then Barcelona is only 3 hours away and there are plenty of beautiful drives into the Pyrenees, including the pretty towns of Quillan and Illes sur Tet. If hiking or cycling is your love, then you will find opportunities for these activities in abundance. There are plenty of wine tasting opportunities for wine lovers too. This area has something for everyone.

The owner of this property will only usually accept Saturday to Saturday bookings during high season, but please contact us if you wish to vary the check in/check out days. Cots and highchairs are available on request and subject to availabiity, but guests would need to supply their own cot linen.

Getting there is cheap and quick either with EasyJet or BA from Gatwick to Toulouse or Stanstead to Carcassonne with RyanAir.com

2 couples, one week in May,fabulous ‘house on the hill’.Great value.House and gardens are immaculate.have all the amenities you could want. From pool terrace it’s a fab spot to watch sun go down behind stunningly beautiful hills/vineyards beyond. The baker calls on his round around 1pm, the charming church clock chimes most daytime hours. Small interesting hamlet built around central church.Parking easy,at the front door, or lockable courtyard at back, [see pics] could accommodate 2 cars easily.Very safe area. Carcassonne airport and its famous walled city-25 minutes away. [Other airports Toulouse, one hour, Limoges, Bezier, Perpignan]. Pyrenees [Andorra] and Barcelona are 3 hours drive, we planned trips there but didn’t go in the end, had we been over for 2 weeks rather than one, we would have! Definitely for next time! We found an amazing ‘artists walk’ 2 min from house, alongside vineyards-standalone outdoor artwork, intriguing! Loads of interesting villages such as Minerve 1hr north, [driving past Carcassonne], Mirepoix 30 minutes drive-medieval houses are all made of timber. Did wine tasting at Sieur D’Arques in Limoux.Bought bargain boxes of Premiere Bulle white fizz [bright pink foil]! Lots of wine tasting houses in the area. Went via Corbières massif to Lagrasse-incredibly old, medieval, stunning village. Amazing day in Carcassone old town, cant be missed, so near to the house.Limoux 3 mins away [by car- we walked 20 minutes] several supermarkets, beautiful/unusual shops, charming, with a large village square, excellent restaurants/bars. Locals are delightfully friendly and cheerful. quiet peaceful place. Great wifi speed.Large kitchen, family size table, large fridge freezer.Lots of the usual equipment, plus useful extras/veg steamer/coffee maker/kettle/lots of pans and crockery/cutlery. 2 comfy sofas/British TV/Sky.Pool table in the basement and sofa & [third] WC with bath. This basement has front door in it with views over the countryside, plus outside door a well-tendedgarden [village war memorial].What a bonus! 2 double bedrooms top floor/ all new, lovely ensuites/efficient hot water,mattress/duvets/linens really comfortable.Rooms have velux window and small outside wall window.House estate has lots of sunshine areas, plenty of furniture, shade under the trees wooden canopy by pool zero gravity sunbeds, plus furniture also by the kitchen door.We played boules outside front door, overlooking a panorama of hills and countryside! We’ll be back!!

Superb Property, Fantastic Location, Stunning View

By Melanie C. on 03-Jul-2016

This property was absolutely stunning and has been tastefully renovated and decorated. It is exactly as described in the listing but I would like to add that it was spotlessly clean throughout on our arrival and we really felt that we could have been the first people to have occupied it. The beds were 'crispily' clean and, in the kitchen, there was every facility and utensil you could possibly require to cook any type of meal. The pool was also immaculate and a refreshing luxury on some very hot days sunbathing on the patio. These days were followed by BBQ's whilest watching the sunset over the hills from the patio. We visited Carcasonne (an absolute must see) which is only a 30 minute drive from the house and we also went to the Sunday market at Esperaza which is about 25 minutes away. We also made the 1.5 hour drive to Collioure which was beautiful. I would highly recommend this house for a peaceful holiday in a beautiful, quiet village which is ideally situated to visit the busier, tourist towns nearby. We love this region of France and would definitely like to return to this property for a holiday in the future. Thanks very much! It's always good to know that guests have enjoyed themselves and we have given them a good holiday experience. Vacances d'Aude
