Description

Set within the rolling hills of the Aveyron the Barn at Pertus is a converted 17th century traditional stone and slate barn, completely restored to provide self-catering accommodation for 6/7.

Restored by local craftsmen, the ancient exterior, with its beautiful stone walls and traditional fish scale slate roof, is complemented by a contemporary, cool and airy interior, with tiled floors and full height vaulted ceiling. Large windows and doors flood the living area with light and lead out to a fabulous deck with views over the countryside and garden.

The ground floor consists of a large open plan kitchen and lounge area, bathroom, and double bedroom. There are French windows that lead out to a terrace which has a dining table and chairs.
Upstairs has two twin bedrooms, one of which has an additional pull out bed if required and another bathroom. It has a fully-fenced garden with orchard and a large heated pool. (The pool is open May to Sept/October). There are swings and slides for younger children. There is excellent WiFi and Netflix.

The Barn is ideal for families or for those looking for peace and quiet in a stunning area of south west France.

Pertus is a tiny hamlet situated at the end of a rural lane in the Aveyron department of south-west France and lies within the Midi-Pyrenees region. It is 1.5km from La Bastide L’Eveque, an ancient village dating from the 15th century with a boulangerie and restaurant. Approximately 10km from Villefranche de Rouergue, a traditional medieval town with great shopping including weekly food markets and large supermarkets. The river life is vibrant, offering canoeing, kayaking and an array of cafes and restaurants.

From Pertus there are wonderful trails and quiet roads for walking, cycling and mountain biking.
Other nearby famous bastide/medieval towns include Najac, Cordes, St Antonin, St Cirque Lapopie, Belcastel and Sauveterre de Rouergue. The medieval cities of Rodez, Albi and Cahors are all within easy driving distance, as are the magnificent Tarn gorges, beautiful Lot river and amazing Millau viaduct.

There is plenty here to entertain you, including mountain bikes, children's swings, badminton, pool inflatables, games and more...

Winter Breaks -
The barn is ideal for winter breaks as it has central and under-floor heating, plus insulated/double glazed. Prices are inclusive of heating, linen etc. There is plenty to see and do but without the heat and crowds! The pool is open from spring to autumn.

We look forward to welcoming you to Pertus, a special holiday location for all to enjoy....

Wonderful stay

By Johnsons on 15-Jun-2024

We would like to commend Janine and Justine on the Old Barn. I don’t think we have stayed anywhere which has been quite so well thought out with attention to detail and maintained. It really suited us. Everything was clean and as stated on the website, so perhaps that should be expected but there were none of the little inconveniences often encountered. For instance there were sensible size options for glasses, saucepans etc, the knives were sharp, a good array of books and games, everything worked, the lighting was good, sockets were plentiful and in sensible positions, the fly screens were sound, tables were where we needed them, electric did not cut out in a storm, …I could go on. The Wifi was excellent and I could work overlooking the valley and listening to birdsong. The accommodation was very comfortable and its situation in peaceful wood and pasture countryside had pleasant views over the valley from the deck and garden. At night you could see the Milky Way and listen to the frogs. There were a number of different spots in the grounds to sit and although we were there with our grown up children, they would have had a fine time when young. Immediately from the house are some very pleasant walks with points of interest and we enjoyed eating at the local restaurant. The more energetic amongst us enjoyed cycling to and from Villefranche de Rouerge a few times and we all enjoyed spending time in the wonderful pool at the property or visiting Najac, Albi and my personal favourite the Chemin de Halage. We didn’t get round to doing all we wanted to in the area as the magic of the old barn kept us in its spell. Janine and Justine were there when needed and invisible when not. We thoroughly recommend the place.

We stumbled upon...

By Andrew Hall on 16-Sep-2023

We stumbled upon Janine’s place at quite short notice and it turned out to be the best break for us! The gîte had absolutely everything that you could possibly need and the setting was perfect for relaxing and unwinding, particularly by the large heated pool. Our kids also enjoyed playing badminton in the large garden and we made great use of the BBQ on the terrace. The local towns were only a 15-20mins drive away if we needed to stock up on supplies. Janine was a wonderful host; it was truly was a home away from home. No stone was left unturned in terms of the provisions both inside and outside the gîte. We would not hesitate to return to the barn; it was a family holiday to remember.

Pertus

Our stay at Janine''''s place was by far our best Airbnb experience ever, the place is remote and quiet yet charming, very well renovated. The outdoor terrace allowed us to enjoy some drinks with a view on the sun setting behind the hill and birds chirping, exactly what we needed to have a peaceful break from our busy city life. Janine''''s has been super helpful and friendly and made us feel like home. We''''ll definitely come back ☺️
