Overview
Description
The CottageThe Threshing Barn is an 18th century barn which has been converted into a comfortable, dog-friendly, 2-bedroom cottage. The downstairs open plan living area is light and bright due to the lovely large bay window. The sitting room has a 42" smart TV and an electric fire, so is great for cosy family nights in. The dining area has a dining table that can seat 4. A separate desk makes a practical work space if you need to combine work and holiday and the cottage has free, fast Starlink Wi-Fi. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge/freezer, washer/drier, dishwasher, microwave, electric hob and oven. There are plenty of pot, pans and trays so you've everything you need whether it's just to heat up a quick pizza or cook a full Sunday roast. Upstairs there is a double bedroom and an adjoining twin room with two single beds (the twin room can only be accessed via the double bedroom). The family bathroom has a bath with shower over.
We are a baby and toddler friendly site and to help support families and save space in the boot of the car we have travel cots (Joie Kubbie Compact with removable bassinet option) and high chairs (IKEA Antilop) available to borrow for free. We also have step stools and plastic children's cutlery and crockery available for each cottage.
Gardens
The cottage has free parking for one car and shared use of 2 acres of gardens. The lower portion of the garden has been rewilded so you can enjoy the birds and butterflies that come and enjoy this wilder area under the apple and damson trees. The main areas of the garden have picnic tables and lawn so you can enjoy and outdoor meal or throw down a blanket for a picnic. The established shrubs and hedging means there is plenty of opportunity for games of hide and seek and den finding. It's the perfect opportunity for the children to get outside and enjoy an old fashioned childhood of bug hunting, stick collecting and paddling in the tiny stream that flows through our land. BBQs and boxes of utensils are available to borrow and charcoal can be purchased on site.
Facilities on site
All guests can use the shared outdoor heated swimming pool (Start of May to end of September). Our pool is 11.5m by 5m so there's plenty of space for inflatables and playing or for a few worthwhile lengths to wake you up in the morning. The set of inset steps at the shallow end make it a practical pool for toddlers as you can easily help them in and out of the water or sit them on a step in shallow water for a bit of splashing. The games room is available all year, with table tennis, table football and toys for younger children. The outdoor sandpit is always a hit with the kids - whether it's building tall volcanoes or digging for Australia. We also have some items that can be borrowed and taken to the beach with you (windbreaks, body boards, rock pool net and buckets/spades) as it all helps save a little bit of space in the car and helps keep the cost of your holiday down.
Meet the animals
The highlight for many guests are the twice daily animal feed sessions. Everyone is welcome to feed the chickens, cuddle a sheep, meet the pigs and make a fuss of the guinea pigs. Our animals are used to meeting new people and they are keen to come and greet you and see if you have any snacks or treats for them. Our Kunekune pig, Pickle, is rather partial to a belly rub once he's finished his dinner and one of our sheep, Curly Wurly, loves being hand fed and given a good scratch on the neck. Guests love the opportunity to get up close and interact with the animals. It's not just a treat for the children either...there's no age limit on loving the animal experiences and we've had guests of all ages join us on the feeding sessions. We're always happy to answer questions about the animals and our smallholding....so feel free to chat with us about the quirks of Kunekune pigs or your dreams of making your own escape to the country. If anybody in your group requires a calmer or quieter session then we can usually arrange additional trips to the paddock to make sure that everyone can enjoy some quality time with the animals - just let us know.
Local area and days out
One of the comments that many guests make is that our site offers them the best of both worlds - a beautiful rural retreat away from the crowds of the large resorts but within easy reach of North Devon's beautiful coastline, Exmoor and attractions. We are just 20-40 minutes from many popular and family-friendly destinations and days out. Some of our guests' favourites are Quince Honey Farm, Arlington Court (National Trust), The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, RHS Rosemoor, Lynton & Lynmouth, Ilfracombe and the beaches at Woolacombe, Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands and Croyde. You are also spoilt for choice when it comes to lovely nearby village pubs to enjoy (including some dog friendly options) - The Chichester Arms (Bishop's Tawton), The Jack Russell (Swimbridge), The Castle (Landkey) and The Bell (Chittlehampton) are all perfect for a relaxed drink or a family meal.

Leave ReviewThreshing Barn
By Gemma on 09-Mar-2025I’ve stayed before and I’ll be back again. Anna is so helpful, the location is pretty and there are birds and other wildlife anywhere. It feels like a million miles away from civilisation, which is perfect. The accommodation has everything you need and is very clean and comfortable. I love it here.
Threshing Barn
By Catherine on 15-Mar-2025We loved our stay. The accommodation was clean and well equipped. The surrounding countryside was beautiful. We often saw deer, and heard owls when driving to and from the accommodation. Our family have stayed here previously and we would certainly recommend the cottage.
Threshing Barn
By Debra on 21-Apr-2025We had an absolutely wonderful and relaxing holiday! Anna and Tim are warm and extremely attentive hosts to their lovely farm. They especially went out of their way to address some specific needs we had. The cottage we stayed in was spotless, spacious, homely and warm. The daily feeding of the animals is a richly engaging activity – and not just for the kids! With a young child the additional well-stocked games room was a big bonus. The beautiful surroundings of the farm, provide a most serene environment. The location of the farm is also excellent and we were able to visit many diverse highlights of north Devon - which were all less than 40min away. Thanks Anna and Tim!
