If you are looking for somewhere off the beaten track that has uninterrupted views of the countryside and that is also close to amenities and beautiful beaches then look no further than Gooseneck at Bigbury on Sea.Gooseneck is a delightful cottage nestled in the Avon valley within walking distance of the estuary and beaches. For golf lovers, Bigbury Golf Course is literally 5 minutes away.
You could easily be forgiven for thinking you had found paradise. Gooseneck is a hidden gem that will provide you with such a relaxing and peaceful holiday, you won’t want to go home!
All on one level, Gooseneck is suitable for all ages and abilities. There are 2 bedrooms, the first with a double bed, the second with twin beds. The open plan L shaped kitchen/diner/lounge is really light and airy and has 2 sets of patio doors that open up on to the large private garden. The lounge area is furnished with a large L shaped leather sofa and comfy armchair. With exposed beams, high ceiling and a huge television with surround sound, you may not want to leave, especially in the winter when curled up in front of the log burner! The smart tv also has the capabilities to run cd’s and dvds.
The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, large fridge and Belfast sink overlooking the countryside beyond.
Outside the garden has a patio area furnished with table and chairs..
The Avon estuary walk is literally outside the garden gate and provides nature lovers and ramblers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the stunning scenery on offer in the South Hams.
Bigbury beach is a 5 minute drive away or a half hour ramble will take you to Bantham.
What’s not to love!
A car is essential as there are just so many great places to explore. Dartmoor National Park with it's miles and miles of ruggedness is on the doorstep as is the South West Coastal Path so if you love walking this is the place to be. There are many dog friendly beaches including Bantham, Mothecombe, Wembury and Thurlestone to name a few. We are so lucky to have access to so much fresh food especially fish so if you love food, check out the Oyster Shack near Bigbury and the Crab Shed in Salcombe - 2 of my favourites!
Take the sea tractor and have lunch at the Pilchard Inn over on Burgh Island!
You will be so spoilt for choice of things to do - walk the South West Coast Path; try your hand at surfing or paddle boarding or just Relax, Relax Relax!
Children and Family friendly!
Well behaved dogs are welcome.
Parking for 2 cars.

Leave ReviewAll in all a great place to stay, hopefully we will return in the future.
By John on 24-May-2025Great location for getting away from it all yet a short drive to Kingsbridge to pick up essential supplies. Well appointed with everything you could expect in a home away from home. Lovely secure fenced garden with lots of space for Rufus, our dog, to run around in and check out lots of new smells. Sit and spend a few hours on the terrace, which is a real sun trap, hearing nothing but the cows and sheep who are daily visitors. All in all a great place to stay, hopefully we will return in the future.
Fabulous property for a 5 night Christmas break.
By Samantha on 27-Dec-2024Fabulous property for a 5 night Christmas break. The cottage had everything we needed for a chilled holiday, warm & cosy. Beach 5 mins by car which we & our dachshund adored. Brilliant atmosphere Christmas Day, with people swimming & having fun. Burgh Island & Pilchard Inn a must. One small issue which wouldn’t be an issue during summer months is the tv reception was poor & only limited channels (ITV constantly scrambled). Not great for Christmas viewing but wouldn’t care if the summer as you probably would never turn the tv on! Pheasants & owls, wonderful to see & hear in the garden, it really was a perfect festive break home from home (minus the tv!). Thank you Patsy
The location was perfect for us; quiet, rural and with a lovely view of the valley
By Liz on 13-Jul-2024We really enjoyed our stay at Gooseneck. The house is very spacious with a large garden, perfect for us (and our dog). The location was perfect for us; quiet, rural and with a lovely view of the valley. You can walk to the nearest beautiful beach on the Avon Estuary in about 25 minutes. We had such a relaxing week and were lucky to get good weather.
Really really special place!
By Jonny on 21-Nov-2024We had an amazing late autumnal break at Gooseneck! A beautiful sheltered location, abundant in wildlife, we had 15 different birds identified on our app in just 10 minutes one late afternoon. Loads of space and lovely and warm with the underfloor heating. Patsy lovely and helpful from booking and right through our stay! The back garden is enclosed, spacious and the grass is like a bowling green with frequent pheasant visitors! Really really special place! Loved it
cute 2 bed cottage close to golf course and dog friendly beach
By Fifi on 06-Feb-2018Thank you Patsy for the absolutely lovely weekend we just spent at Gooseneck cottage. Gooseneck was exactly as shown in the photos. The garden and the views were beautiful and I was able to relive my childhood by spending hours on the trampoline! We loved the under floor heating and the log burner. It was freezing cold outside but we were so cosy inside. The kitchen is really well equipped and we cooked some delicious dinners in there. Gooseneck is down an idyllic little lane-completely hidden away. Bigbury beach is a 5 minute drive away and our dog loved walking on there! We can't wait to go back and hope to visit again in the spring with the kids who I know will love it too! Thank you!
