Leave ReviewPerfect Easter Break
By Ashleigh on 25-Apr-2025We stayed over Easter Bank Holiday, on arrival Margaret had left us some Easter chocolates which was so thoughtful of her to do, and a nice treat after a long drive! Perfect location and easy commute to the main attractions of the Lakes. The cottage was perfect size for three, lovely kitchen with stunning views. Extremely comfy beds and duvet covers, we all slept perfectly. Would highly recommend and stay again if we were in the area.
Idyllic peaceful haven
By on 29-Oct-2019Spent a relaxing few days in this exceptional cottage. It was absolutely pristine and really well equipped. The location was just perfect for the break we needed with lovely views from the rear of the cottage. Keswick was just a short drive away as was Cockermouth. Can definitely recommend.
Gorgeous little cottage
By on 22-May-2019We needed somewhere to stay for the Keswick Mountain Festival and Little Byre was where we chose. It's an easy 30 minute drive into Keswick so not too out of the way if you want a day trip to town. Although we didn't spend too much time at the cottage we found it very clean and comfortable and really well equipped. Beds were super comfy, especially after an 18 miles walk. But I would suggest getting a heavier curtain on the single room window as the light does come through early during the summer, and the moonlight shines through at night too. The wine and biscuits went down a treat. I can see how parking may have been an issue but we were lucky on our stay and even if you had to park in the next village it was still only 5 minutes to walk back to the cottage so not really a massive issue.
Cute place, nice new kitchen, quiet location.
By on 02-Nov-2018My wife and I stayed in Little Byre for four nights in late September. The two-floor interior has had a lot of care put into it...very nice appointments and a new kitchen with new appliances and cookware. The owner sent us a very nice two-page letter detailing places to eat, things to see and do, and other information about the cottage and the area. There is a nice television and fireplace. Because of the nature of the building we share walls with the immediate neighbors, so we were requested to be quiet after 10 and not to flush toilets during the night etc. Little Byre was very clean and cozy and comfortable. The wooden stairway and upper floors creak when walked on, only a problem at night when one wants to be quiet. Also, there is an unexpected step outside the master bedroom door -- leave a light on at night so you see that step! The big problem we encountered had to do with parking. Little Byre sits on a VERY narrow road, wide enough (at best) for a parked car along (within inches of) the building that houses all the cottages, and one traffic lane with so little room to spare that we were requested by the owner and also in person by one of the residents to pull in our side mirror to make room! There are no designated parking spots for each of the cottages, and residents can and do park freely in front of other people's cottages (including a big red SUV in front of Little Byre), so finding a place to park becomes a first come first served situation which could easily have left us with no place to park. The problem was resolved for us because one of the cottages was for sale and unoccupied, so we parked in front of that one. Had that not been the case, we were told by the owner and a somewhat irritated resident to park at the bottom of the hill but the three places there were taken every time we looked. Parking issues aside, Little Byre gave us a quiet place to stay for our daytime forays into the Lake District.
Little Byre
By on 07-Aug-2018We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Little Byre. The Cottage was warm, comfortable, set in an ideallyc setting and well equipped. We could not ask for more. We ate out most evenings and went to the Lakeside Restaurant (2 miles up the road) which whilst not the cheapest was quality and plentiful with lovely views and friendly service. we would recommend Little Byre to anyone.
Fantastic stay
By on 24-Jun-2018We have just returned from this delightful cottage. It is within easy driving distance to so many beautiful places and we particularly enjoyed Keswick and Derwentwater. We wish we had had more time to explore this wonderful part of the country. We loved going out for long days in the fantastic weather and returning to Little Byre which truly felt like home. Highly recommended.
