Countryside setting? Peaceful property? Central location? Beautiful site? Comfortable, clean accommodation? Friendly, unobtrusive hosts?

We can tick all of these boxes for you and a stay at Rivermead means you're guaranteed to avoid the beach crowds and the hustle and bustle of a busy Cornwall. Kingfisher Cottage at Rivermead is the place for you if you're looking for a great base for exploring Cornish attractions, a wide variety of wildlife and somewhere to just relax.

We'd love to welcome you to this one-bedroom cottage which is all on one level and has its own entrance and dedicated parking area. As a guest at Rivermead, you'll enjoy exclusive access to 17 acres of beautiful Cornish woodland, meadows, a one and a half acre lake and a stretch of the River Fowey, where you can fish for trout and salmon.

Kingfisher Cottage is in a converted 300 year old Cornish stone barn with very few straight walls but a lot of character. There's a handy porch area where you can leave bags and shoes and this leads out to a garden area where you'll have your own picnic bench, parasol and a BBQ. Inside the cottage, the well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for a self-catering stay, and perhaps some things you'd never even thought of! All the things you'd expect are there - electric oven and hob, fridge with ice-box, microwave, toaster, cafetiere - but probably also some things you didn't, like a picnic set and a cream tea on arrival. There are plenty of pans, cutlery, crockery and utensils, if you really want to cook during your holiday, but don't miss our Welcome Folder which contains lots of suggestions for places to eat out. We provide you with a washing-up starter pack, a tea towel and oven gloves, and there's additional freezer space in the Information Room if you need it.

Across the hallway from the kitchen is the shower room with a thermostat-controlled power shower, WC and vanity unit. Shower room towels and a bath mat are provided for you.

The pretty south-facing living room has a comfy sofa and armchair with TV, Freeview and a DVD player, perfect for relaxing after a day's sightseeing. There's BT broadband/Wifi across the site if you want to keep in touch while you're here. You have a dining table and chairs in the living room where you can have your breakfast looking out to spot the river between the trees and watch the squirrels pinching the birds' peanuts from the feeder. You'll have the same countryside view out of the bedroom window, which also faces south towards the river. There's a comfy double bed with high-quality, coordinating bed linen, a hanging rail, dressing table and hairdryer.

Some guests find that they don't leave the site as there's plenty to do with walks around the lake, bird-spotting in the hide, choosing your favourite picnic spot and going off grid with a book and a bottle of wine, finding your inner-child on the rope swings, having a game of boules on the court or even fishing for salmon or trout in the river. There's also a fire pit in the grounds which guests are welcome to use.

If you are exploring further afield, you'll have the perfect base. Rivermead Cottages are about half-way between Bodmin and Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is 5 minutes away by car, and Looe, Charlestown, Fowey and Lostwithiel can be reached in less than 20 minutes. There's a host of attractions within easy reach such as the NT gardens at Lanhydrock, the Eden Project, Golitha Falls and Lantic Bay. You'll find a wealth of information leaflets and suggested walks in the Information Room.

A warm welcome, cosy accommodation and idyllic surroundings

By hudwick on 04-Sep-2012

dwick My wife and I were looking for a convenient stop-off for a few days between home and our ultimate destination. What we ended up with was a place that we would have loved to have stayed for the whole or of our holiday. There were some really nice touches - the welcome box including fresh clotted cream and scones and fresh flowers. Through thought has gone into what is needed in a cottage and all has been provided even the tea bag squeezer. A bbq with all the essentials as well just have to catch a fresh trout which is very possible here. Marjorie and Kevin made us feel like we were visiting friends for a few days. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The fishing on the River Fowey and the private lake stocked with brown trout were brilliant.

Everything the ad states and more!

By Jordy L on 05-Sep-2012

If you are looking for a lovely cottage in wonderful surroundings, hosted by very warm and helpful people, you have found it! Kevin and Marjorie will make you feel right at home. They guide you around, give practical advice and help in any way they can, without imposing themselves. The Kingfisher cottage is renovated, very cosy and equipped with the best tools. No cheap materials, but expensive equipment, meant to provide guests a stay without worries. The 17 acres have everything the advert states and even look more impressive when you are actually walking across the land. A whole set of games, jigsaw puzzles and books are at your disposal, along with abundant touristic information about the region. There is simply no time to get bored, even on a rainy day. Never return to the same spot, since the world has so many things to discover? This place will make you doubt that rule! We had a terrific time and did not even try out the fishing! J L, Belgium

A week in Paradise

By Marian H on 23-Jul-2013

The property is situated in acres of land which are accessible to all. The apartment is very well equipped and comfortably furnished. The area is within easy travelling distance of major resorts and attractions. From start to finish our holiday experience was fantastic. The weather helped of course but even if the sun had not shone every day we would still have had a wonderful time. Kevin and Marjorie were extremely helpful and the surprise welcome goodies and personal message on the blackboard were a good way to start the holiday. Our best holiday for a while - all the best bits of a Mediterranean holiday with none of the bad bits like airport queues and crowds. Will definitely return.
