Description
If you're looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle, Owl Lodge is perfect. It's set aside from our other properties, perched on the hillside with a paddock and woodland views through the kitchen window, and views of the River Fowey peeping through the trees through the south-facing bedroom and living room windows and French doors. We offer flexible check ins and any length of stay from 3 nights upwards.
This pet-free lodge is available for up to six guests; perfect for a spot of trout or salmon fishing along our stretch of the River Fowey, or for couples wanting some space, groups of friends holidaying together or multi-generational families looking for open-plan living.
From the moment you arrive, pulling up into your own private parking space and taking in the views, you'll be starting to unwind. Your lodge has everything you'll need for a home-away-from-home break, and more. There are large, comfortable beds and sofas, beautiful linens, walk-in wardrobes, huge showers, gas central heating, Bosch appliances in the kitchen and pretty Port Meirion crockery in the cupboards.
There's a washing machine in the hallway and an outdoor rotary clothes line, as well as an airer, for drying towels and cozzies after a day at the beach.
The kitchen is well-equipped, whether you decide to take a leisurely breakfast sitting on the balcony overlooking the valley before heading out for the day, or to cook your evening meals and eat on your private south-west facing patio area watching the sun set through the trees. The oak dining table seats six but you also have a picnic table, chairs, parasol and a BBQ outside, so you can sit somewhere different for each meal.
All three of the comfortable bedrooms look out over the lawns towards the River Fowey and offer peace and quiet and a good's night sleep. Two of the rooms have king-size beds, dressing tables and drawers, and the bright, airy twin room also has its own large wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The main bedroom has a large en-suite with a shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail. The other king bedroom has a huge walk-in wardrobe. Two bedrooms share a family shower room, also with a large shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail.
Shower room towels are provided for you so there's less to pack. We also provide a kitchen starter pack (washing up liquid, tea towels etc) and a Cornish cream tea to welcome you on arrival.
At Rivermead, there are 17 acres of grounds exclusively for our guests to use, including woods, meadow, an acre and a half lake and a private stretch of the River Fowey which is available for trout and salmon fishing. There's a fire pit for your use, which is great for those clear, starry nights and a spot of campfire singing, as well as a hide near the lake to sit quietly and watch what wanders past.
Some of our guests come here to switch off and they never leave the site. There's so much nature Rivermead to enjoy here from bird life (we regularly see nuthatches, chaffinches, wagtails, thrushes, blue tits, buzzards, kingfishers and woodpeckers) to wildlife (squirrels, otters, badgers, hedgehogs, bats and red deer). The plants and trees are wonderful and change throughout the year; from daffodils in February and March, to Bluebells in May, then the rhododendrons and blue hydrangeas throughout the summer.
We have a boules (petanque) court on site and swings in the trees. There are lots of games and books in the Information Room. There are walks around the lake and along the river, both offering different views each time you see them.
Other guests find that Rivermead offers the perfect base for exploring this wonderful part of Cornwall. It's close enough to beaches like Looe, towns like Fowey, attractions such as the Eden project and memorable days out like a trip to Lantic Bay to walk part of the South West Coast Path to allow you to enjoy these wonderful places but still have a place and time to relax once you return to your lodge.
If your selected date isn't available in Owl Lodge, why not have a look at our other properties from our one-bedroom Oaktree and Kingfisher Cottages, to two-bedroom Bluebell and Squirrel Cottages, our other lodge (Otter Lodge) which also sleeps 6, and our Old Farmhouse, which dates back to the 1750s and sleeps up to 7 guests?

By Harrison on 29-Oct-2025We booked Owl Lodge at Rivermead as we were looking for peace and quiet, a nice, clean and welcoming environment, and to book to suit our convenience. We had a lovely stay and were made to feel welcome. What we liked most was how clean it was, and the information provided and communication were helpful.

Quiet and space for the kids
By Shuker on 01-Sep-2025We were looking for somewhere quiet but also somewhere where our kids could play. We loved the space in the accommodation and the Information Room had lots of choice for ideas for things to do. We all loved the outdoor space, especially the fire pit and the rope swings were a hit with the kids.
