Overview
Description
As you arrive by car via Langrigge Park The Lookout Lodge is unassuming but once inside you will see why we called it The Lookout Lodge! Even in the Lake District houses with “lake views” are in very short supply. There are not many properties, particularly in Bowness on Windermere, from where you can enjoy an outlook like this! The Lookout Lodge is elevated above Bowness village a short distance from the shores of Lake Windermere and the village centre. The property is cleverly designed to make the most of its position.
The crowning jewel of the property is perhaps the roof top terrace!
As the house is built into the hillside the upper floor (which is the ground floor from the driveway but first floor at the rear) comprises of the living accommodation.
The first floor includes is a large lounge which features a real log burning stove. Due to the elevation, the lounge enjoys a fantastic lake view from the south west facing bi-fold doors. These give access to the roof top terrace. The large south facing window of the lounge provides views across the leafy outlying areas of the village and the lower slopes of Brant Fell. The lounge has large leather sofas and a real oak floor.
The kitchen and dining area is modern and features a range style electric oven with gas hob. In keeping with the local areas the floor is finished in slate. All the usual facilities are provided including a dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave etc. The room enjoys a lake view and provides access to the roof terrace via south facing patio doors. Whilst enjoying breakfast in the dining area can watch the early morning mist role off the lake.
The roof terrace itself is south west facing. You can enjoy fantastic lake views across Bowness Bay and Belle Isle towards Claife Heights beyond. In the evening the sun sets over Claife Heights to the west and so you can sit out on the terrace and enjoy the evening sun over a drink or perhaps dine out on the terrace whilst taking in the wonderful scenery. Throughout the day you can watch the steamers come and go from Bowness pier and the sail boats departing from the sailing club.
The lower floor is ground floor at the rear. This lower floor comprises of two double bedrooms, a twin room and a bunk room together with a family bathroom and separate shower room.
The larger bathroom has a WC, wash basin and a separate bath and shower cubical.
The smaller bathroom has a WC, wash basin and a shower cubical.
There is a third WC on the upper floor.
Both of the double bedrooms enjoy lake views.
The bunk room and twin room both have garden views.
Outside there is a secluded garden from where pedestrian access can be gained to Brantfell Road. From the garden gate it is approximately a 150 meter walk to the village centre and a further 100 meters to the lake shore. The location could not be more central!
We refer to the uphill side of the property (the Langrigge Park entrance) as the tradesman’s entrance. Here all the practicalities are taken care of: -
In Bowness village parking can be a real issue and many holiday lets in the village only have “on street” parking. We can offer “off street” parking for three cars on the private drive and so there are no worries on that score.
The Lookout Lodge has a garage where you can securely store your bikes or canoes etc.
The Lookout Lodge is double glazed throughout and has gas fired central heating which is instantly controllable and provides hot water on demand.
We can provide a travel cot and high chair at no extra cost.
Bedding is included in the price but please note that we do not provide towels.

Leave ReviewAmazing stay
By Julie H. on 23-Feb-2024Beautiful well equipped house. Views are amazing. Few minutes walk through the back gate into Bowness. Its a short but very steep hill so coming back up might be a struggle for the less abled, my parents in their 80s managed it albeit slowly. Andrew was very prompt and helpful with any queries we had. We had a lovely stay and will definitely be returning :)
Excellent
By George A. on 25-Feb-2018Property was ideally suited for walking into the town. We didn't use the car as there was sufficient walks etc. locally. Property was well equipped with plenty of space for the 5 adults in our party. Would definitely return again.
Lovely property great location
By karen M. on 03-Mar-2018We have had a lovely week, a great place for two families to come together. Lots to do within walking distance and a lovely log burner to return home too.
PERFECT LOCATION!!
By JULIAN M. on 13-Mar-2018The property is situated perfectly to just walk into Bowness-on-Windermere. The view of the LAKES are stunning, fantastic balcony!! Two good size bathrooms which was really useful. I would definitely stay again.
A truly stunning location - thank you for a wonderful week! *****
By Derek f. on 09-Apr-2018This property is truly fab! We had a lovely relaxing week here and would all definitely love to come back. The outside balcony provides stunning views across the lake and it is so peaceful to watch the boats going to and fro sailing. There is a large outdoor table and plenty of chairs - when the sun is out it bathes this area and it is perfect for sitting/eating out. The location is amazing, absolutely perfect, being literally 2 minutes into Bowness centre and two minutes up the hill to beautiful countryside on Brant Fell. We had seven in our party over three generations, from 11 to 78 years, and it worked very well for all of us. There is a small play park within easy walking distance from the house for families with young children and Bowness centre has a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops. The house is well equipped and very comfortable (good selection of games and toys for children/families). The owner Andrew was great to communicate with and keen to provide the best stay possible. A truly memorable week - thank you very much! =)
Very well planned out, clean and well equipped. Location fantastic..
By Tony D. on 15-Jul-2018Perfect holiday retreat. We stayed from 15th until 22nd June and enjoyed every moment, even in our couple of days of rain we still enjoyed the views from the balcony, kitchen and master bedroom. Leaving the back gate turning left for our daily walks with the dogs were stunning and views breathtaking. Evenings coming out from back gate and turning right down into Bowness to the bars and restaurants was very relaxing. Very good exercise for the legs on the journey home, but nothing a glass of wine on the balcony couldn’t sort out. Plenty of parking and amenities within walking and driving distance. We took our dogs back to their hometown of Patterdale which I can honestly say the journey in the car was Turely stunning with the water fails. Stopped at a beautiful pub called the Queens Head had their homemade pork pie and piccalilli washed down with a pint of pata ale the day couldn’t have got any better. I would also recommend the Drunken Duck at Ambleside, great food and drink after beautiful walks. Another recommendation for Bowness is Porto Restaurant had a lovely evening meal here for our anniversary. We will most definitely return to look out lodge for further visit without a doubt. I have already recommended to friends and family :). Many thanks to Andrew and family for sharing with us
