Overview
Description
Domaine Le Gabachou was originally a typical Lauragais farmhouse built around the end of the 19th century. The property has been developed over the years and now consists of 4 gîtes and the owner’s main house (owners on site). The property is situated in roughly 1 hectare of landscaped gardens and is surrounded on three sides by farmland and to the south by the Famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Canal du Midi. The property is accessed via a 1.5kms drive along the tow path for the canal and is an oasis of tranquillity in the heart of Aude. The property benefits from direct access to the canal for those who enjoy cycling and walking yet is only a short distance (3kms) to the village of Bram where you will find all the necessary amenities (bakers, butchers, fishmongers, banks, post office, village shop etc). On the edge of Bram there is a large Carrefour Market and petrol station, ideal for a larger shop.
La Maison d’Olives (125m2) has 2 very large double bedrooms both complete with ceiling fans, the first with a king-sized bed and good wardrobe space. The second has a European queen-sized bed plus an additional single bed with ample storage. These 2 rooms are serviced by a large family bathroom with a 2m walk-in shower (rather than a bath). All of this is located on the first floor. The ground floor has a large family sitting room, with ample sofa space to relax in comfort. There is a large kitchen diner for family meals or entertaining. Just off the sitting room there is a small office space which has been set aside with a desk.
The gîte is well-equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, washing machine, dish washer, separate fridge and freezer, microwave and some would say, most importantly, a hair-drier! The property also benefits from a new coffee pod machine and the WIFI has been upgraded to super-fast broadband via satellite connection. New smart TVs have been installed so you can watch UK Freesat television via our dish or login to your own Netflix / Prime accounts. There are also a selection of books and board games in the gîte to while away the time.
In the grounds of the property you will find a heated swimming pool (shared) with plenty of sun-loungers, should you just wish to relax and read a good book. There are communal outside seating areas under the horse chestnut trees (providing some welcome shade in the hotter months) and BBQs and chimineas for the use of the guests. We also have some (free) bikes on-site for the guests to use and, new for 2026, there will be a small selection of electric bikes for hire (€25 per day). There is a small free-weights gym in the barn and a punch bag and gloves.
Finally, we have a small boat moored directly outside the property which can be rented for your enjoyment up and down the canal. The price for the boat in €100 per day and tuition can be given for those who want it along with a captain’s hat for the day!
The price includes all utilities, tourist tax, high-quality linen and final cleaning.
The surrounding area has something for everyone. There are vineyards all around and in our own corner of l’Aude we are known for many world class varieties including AOC Carbardes, AOC Minervois and AOC Corbieres and not forgetting AOC Limoux, Blanquette de Limoux our very own local bubbly!
This is also the heart of Cathar country and the villages in the Black Mountains have some wonderful ruins and abbeys and not forgetting the incredible experience that is La Cité in Carcassonne – another UNESCO World Heritage site right on our doorstep.
Bram has excellent transport links with trains to Toulouse and Montpellier and direct access to the A61 motorway towards Narbonne and onto Barcelona. The possibilities are endless for day trips or more.
Closer to home there are the weekly markets where medieval squares throng to the hustle and bustle of local producers selling their wares. Mirepoix market on a Monday and Revel market on a Saturday being just 2 of many, definitely worth a visit whilst you are here.
