Leave ReviewGreat place to stay
By Deb Massey on 08-Sep-2025Great cottage in a peaceful location, with good walking straight from the door. Hope to return soon.
Our favourite hideaway!
By James & Anna on 26-Jul-2025The cottage provides an excellent base from which to explore the moor and surrounding areas. the cottage feels like a second home to us after returning for the 4th time! This year a new outside sitting area proved a great addition - lovely to sit out on the warmer evenings and watch the sun set.
Absolutely amazing
By Paul Ramm on 05-Jul-2025The accommodation is perfect for a relaxing break away. Has everything you need and is completely private. The Fox and Hounds is literally a 10 minute walk away, Mary Tavy Inn is a 5 minute drive away and has a beautiful garden with stunning scenery! The house is close to so many areas with beautiful walks, about a 50 minute drive to Bude beach. The house stays wonderfully cool in the summer (we visited during a heatwave) and has a truly amazing view of the sunsets! We can’t wait to go back! Paul, Kim and Milo the dog
Great location
By Alison on 14-Jun-2025Had another lovely week at this very comfortable and peaceful cottage. It’s an ideal location for walking on the moor. The weather was great so we made use of the new outdoor seating area. We will definitely be returning again later this year.
A perfect base for West Dartmoor and around
By JR on 12-Apr-2025A lovely, quiet and spacious property on the west side of Dartmoor but within easy reach of both Okehampton and Tavistock, and an excellent base for exploring the moor, with walking/running/cycling from the front door. The property had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay (including sufficient wifi for working on holiday, sadly), as well as a wide range of pubs within a short walk or cycle/drive - we'll have to come back and try some more!
An amazing place to unwind from everyday life
By Sarah on 22-Dec-2023This cottage is just perfect and we can’t wait to go back there again as a family. It is such a great place to unwind and switch off from the madness of every day life. From the moment we landed we felt we could breathe. The journey wasn’t arduous as it is just off the main road from Tavistock. The driveway approaching the cottage is accessible and there is parking right outside the cottage for a few cars- we had three between the family and all was fine. On entering the cottage the spacious kitchen and large open plan dining area and lounge were just what we needed with the children and dog. Space to breathe but so comfortable and relaxing with the log burner roaring. It felt so safe and comfortable- a perfect setting for us as a family to be together away from the fast pace of the world. We loved that we could all sit together around the large dining room table and share quality time. We walked every day on the moors. The dog was in heaven as we had so many beautiful walks on the doorstep. The girls loved their night walks with their torches and couldn’t believe how many stars were in the night skies. The Fox pub at the end of the driveway was a real bonus. Lovely welcome and is always open! This place has definitely left an imprint in our hearts and we will be returning soon to have more family adventures. My mother booked this for us as a family and she has never done anything like this before. She was pleased to be able to speak directly with the owner, Laura, who went out of her way to ensure that our family stay would be as we had requested. Next visit we will be bringing the bicycles as there is a cycle route to Tavistock- Okehampton and it’s literally across the road! The whole area has so much to offer from Dartmoor walks with all the history, wildlife and fresh air; national cycle routes for all the family; an amazing cottage to feel comfortable in and share; peace and quiet from the craziness of everyday life and so much more! Thank you Higher-Blackabroom for the memories that you have left with us and for leaving us wanting more……..We will be back soon 🙏
