Steeped in history the ancient market town of Stratton offers two superb eating pubs, The Kings Arms and The Tree Inn, famous for being the home of the last Cornish Giant. The friendly village shop offers newspapers and daily basics. Approx half a mile away two major supermarkets, opposite which you will find a leisure centre with an indoor swimmig pool and Ten Pin Bowling. But probably the most exciting aspects are the spectacular beaches of Bude and its surrounding areas. Whether you enjoy surfing, fishing, swimmiing or a relaxing walk along the rugged cliffs, the area is outstanding. With three top class golf courses within twenty minutes drive, the links course at Bude is just five minutes away. Maer Lake, Bude canal and marshes are havens for many species of birds and attract bird lovers from all over the country.
The area is blessed with a mild climate, fabulous sandy beaches, amazing surf, incredible walks both coastal and across the untamed moors and fascinating history. From great pubs to michellin stared restaurants, add on breathtaking sun sets, challenging golf courses and little secluded coves to explore, there really is something for everyone. These are just some of the welcoming aspects of the West Country from cider and cornish pasties to scrumptious cream teas, Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth, Nathan Outlaw, The Tanner Brothers, Michael Caines plus many other very talented unknown chefs make the area a gastronomes delight. From The Eden Project to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Padstow and the quaint fishing village of Port Issac, famed for the filming of the very poular Doc Martin. Boscastle with its 16th century quay and witches museum, Tintagel and the legend of King Arthur to the unique cobbled streets of Clovelly and perhaps the wildest of all, the heritage coastline - Hartland. With its sheer rugged cliffs and tales of ship wrecks, piracy and smuggling. Also the National Trust has many properties within easy distance and RHS Rosemore will have keen gardeners pottering for hours. So if you believe the tales of smugglers on the shore and fairies in the fields this is the place for you!
