Description
The Gathering House is a calm, well-considered six-bedroom Victorian townhouse in the heart of Buxton, designed for groups who want space, comfort, and privacy — without feeling like they’re staying in a hotel. With six proper double bedrooms (all lockable), generous shared spaces, and a central location, it works just as well for friends meeting up for a weekend, walking groups exploring the Peak District, or touring performers and production teams staying during a run.
This is a house that’s easy to arrive at, easy to live in, and easy to share.

The House:
Arrival at The Gathering House is straightforward and calm. You enter through a characterful hallway with gold-framed mirrors and a chandelier, and it quickly becomes clear that this is a house designed to be shared — without feeling crowded.
Just off the hallway is the Tiger Room, a quiet ground-floor double that’s often chosen by the person who’s either up first or in last. Its position means early risers can move about without disturbing the rest of the house, and late returns can slip in quietly after everyone else has turned in. It includes a smart TV, desk, and generous wardrobe space.
A few steps up, the house opens into the main living and dining area — the heart of the house.
This is where groups naturally gather for shared meals, slow breakfasts, planning the day ahead, or winding down together in the evening. There’s a large dining table, comfortable seating, and enough space for everyone to sit and talk.
The house is arranged over three floors, which means people can be together when they want to be — and retreat to their own space when they don’t.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms:
Upstairs, the bedrooms are spread across two further floors:
First floor -
The Van Gogh Room is a bright, restful double with artwork that nods quietly to its name and a view over the peaceful lane at the back of the house. It’s a room people often gravitate towards if they like bolder colours and slightly larger space. Its position near the Tiger Bathroom makes it an easy, practical choice without feeling obvious.
Along the same floor, the Silver Damask Room has a softer, more muted feel, with silver tones and a sense of quiet order. Its proximity to the Pink Bathroom tends to suit guests who like things to feel simple and settled, especially on shared mornings.
Two shared bathrooms on this floor help the house run smoothly, allowing everyone to keep their own rhythm without queues or negotiations.
Second floor -
The top floor has a slightly more tucked-away feel, which many guests enjoy once the house has settled for the night.
The Swirl Room is often full of morning light and has a cosy, calming atmosphere. It’s a room that suits early risers who like a quiet start to the day, or anyone who enjoys soft light and a gentle pace.
The Ochra Room has warm yellow and beige tones that give it a particularly snug feel. It’s one of the cosiest rooms in the house and tends to be chosen by guests who want somewhere that feels restful and comfortable at the end of a long day.
At the back of the house, the Velvet Room looks out over the quiet lane and feels slightly removed from the main flow of the house. With its deeper colours, it has a cocoon-like quality that works well for guests who value privacy and calm.
There is also a separate toilet and wash basin on this floor, which adds to the ease of sharing the house, especially for larger groups.
All bedrooms have lockable doors, which makes the house particularly well-suited to groups of adults who want privacy alongside shared space.
----------------------------
How the house works for groups:
The Gathering House sleeps up to 12 guests across six proper double bedrooms, but it’s just as popular with groups of six who want one room each.
It suits:
- Friends meeting up without the usual bedroom negotiations
- Walking groups who want comfort and good rest after long days outdoors
- Touring performers or production teams who need a calm, reliable base during a run
The layout allows people to keep their own rhythm — early nights, late returns, shared meals, quiet mornings — without anyone feeling disrupted.
