Description
Holidays can be taken all the year round in Calvisson, it enjoys a micro climate unique to a small area of land between the Cevennes and the Mediterranean. Calvisson is a beautiful medieval village with many facilites, including a wonderful public open-air swimming pool and todler padding pool in the village. There is a great cycle path that leads to Sommières or towards Nîmes. The local market is fantastic and is on Sundays. The nearest beaches are 30 mins away (Grau du Roi, Palavas, La Grande Motte).Rue des Fontaines is a delightful 3 storey house lying in the mediaeval heart of this lovely gardoise village. This beautifully decorated home boasts a Summer kitchen on the ground floor with a large second living area making alfresco eating both easy and so typically French, this area opens onto the courtyard by large French windows. The private courtyard has a bassin (plunge pool),where one can keep cool and enjoy a glass of champagne when the children are asleep from the exhaustion of the beach or from exploring the many hills which surround the home. The 1st floor has a wonderfull larger 2nd kitchen, fully equipped, with a wood burner. The cosey lounge, next to the kitchen, has a magnificent view of the surrounding hills. There is a 2 toilet on this level. The 2 bedrooms and double vasqued family bathroom with bath and shower are situated on the upper floor.
Calvisson itself is a buzz with local shops, cafes, restaurants, a local wine caveau, a new wine museum and a museum of boutis which is Provençal quilting. Sunday morning is a time when friends meet at the local market and enjoy a coffee or, more often, a glass of wine after buying locally produced fruit, vegetables, olives, cheeses, bread, fish or charcuterie.
The beautifully decorated interior of Rue des Fontaines designed in neutral colours to reflect the classical stonework provides an elegant and refined setting. Accented with period antiques of the region and with fully integrated modern conveniences, the house is a blend of old world charm and up-to-date facilities.
Anybody with an appreciation of the seamless mix of stylish living with period furnishings would be enthralled by this special living environment which captures the essence of the best of village life in the heart of this lively village.

Such a lovely week, we love the decoration
By The Loilsons on 21-Jul-2012We couldn't wait to come here and stay in the house. It didn't disappoint as we just live the decoration and the colour palette. We have had such a lovely week cycling around the village and the Voie Verte. The week has flown and we don't want to leave. The Sunday market was great for fresh fruit and vegetables though enjoyable just for the experience. Thanks for the essentials left on arrival.
