Description
Les Baignades is one of three gites found at La Tannerie . Perfectly located and just a 5 minute walk from Chalais, a typical French market town with a hive of activity, bars, shops and restaurants.There is a lively Monday market every week where you can purchase local produce and people watch with a croissant and coffee.
Overlooking the town is the imposing and beautiful 16th century Chateau de Chalais with its surrounding moat and excellent restaurant definitely worth a visit. There is also a busy train station in the heart of Chalais with local routes to Bordeaux and Angouleme, both with onward connections via TGV
Situated on the Charente /Dorogne border La Tannerie is approximately an hour away from the beautiful towns of
St Emillion, Bordeaux, Brantome, Blaye and Cognac. There is also a wealth of activities locally for youngsters and teenagers eg river beaches, water parks, go ape and kayaking, making La Tannerie a perfect place for family holidays.
Les Baignades is our most popular gite, with two bedrooms, large shared fenced pool and garden views from the private terrace.
The ground floor has an open plan, living-kitchen area. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to kick start your holiday with us, including: oven, hob, large fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machine. There is also a downstairs toilet for extra convenience.
In the lounge you’ll find satellite TV with UK and French channels, along with an extensive DVD library, comfy sofa's and a large dining table seating 6 easily. As well as fast Wi-Fi throughout the gite and by the pool.
There are two bedrooms upstairs. The first has a double bed, the second has a single bed and bunk beds, sleeping three guests.
There is a shared, spacious bathroom with washbasin shower and toilet. Les Baignades also has a small utility room with a second toilet on the ground floor.
All towels and bedding are supplied and included in the total cost, along with high chairs, stairgates and travel cots should you need them.
Outside you’ll find a private and secluded seating area in front of the gîte, facing across the lawn to the enclosed swimming pool. There is ample garden furniture including an outdoor sofa, table and chairs, dining table, a large parasol and barbecue for relaxed, alfresco dining.
Our spacious garden approx 1 acre has a secure fenced children's play area, with swings and slides, petanque court , table tennis, badminton and a garden games box to provide all the entertainment needed for a lazy day .
Our fenced 12 x 6m swimming pool is surrounded by a large terrace, where you will find a solar shower, plentiful sunbeds, parasols and poolside wifi for a relaxing day in the sun. Inflatables are allowed.

By Anna Holley on 20-Sep-2025We stayed in La Tannerie for 4 days. The setting is delightful and within handy walking distance for the shops, restaurants, weekly market and railway station. Our accommodation was extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean, and we appreciated the welcome goodies in the fridge. We enjoyed the peaceful natural surroundings with mature trees, the River Tude and plenty of bird life. The swimming pool was clean and well-maintained. Jenny and Ken were excellent hosts and always ready to help or offer suggestions on places to visit etc. We will definitely return.

By Dunc Holmes on 30-Aug-2025What an amazing place. Relaxing out by the pool you would think you were remote from everything, but come round the front of the house and you are 2 mins from the centre of town. The owners are super friendly and accommodating. An awesome relaxing stay.

By Pauline Osborne on 30-Jul-2025We recently spent 2 weeks in La Baignes gite with our Son and 2 Grandchildren age 11 and 14. The gite was very well equipped with everything we needed and a great welcome pack was provided. The pool was kept sparkling clean every day by Ken and we made great use of it. Jen and Ken were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Jen booked restaurants for us and was very informative regarding places to see and things to do. We did a tour of the Chateau in Chalais which I would recommend and our 2 grandchildren Loved it. We would definitely recommend La Tannerie.

Jenny was always there for us if we needed anything, any recommendations of where to visit or eat, very attentive. We will always remember our trip very fondly and would highly recommend a visit to this part of France to everyone and of course to stay in one of Jenny and Ken's gites which are ideal for all types of travellers, for adventurers, for people touring the area or just relaxing, for couples, groups and families. 100% recommendable for everyone. We really hope we can come back one day to enjoy Chalais and the lovely surrounding villages and have a glass of wine with Jenny and Ken. .... thank you for everything. Nothing was too small for them, also there to help us if needed. The swimming pool was 5 stars, the gite very clean and spacious. Only a short walk into the town even though it felt you were in the countryside. They had a good supply of outdoor toys to use. Would highly recommend a stay to La Tannerie and this would not be our only stay here.
